The SCBs probably haven't gone into the engine though. If you zoom into the image, you can see 'Challenges' (blurred though) listed on the SCB chart. Can't read those challenges - so can't help them :)

GE supplies two test engines for Tejas Mk-2, eyes collaboration for AMCA

General Electric (GE) has delivered two qualified 414 engines to be tested on the planned home-grown Tejas Mk-2 single engine fighter and is looking to collaborate with India to build engines for the proposed advanced medium-combat aircraft.

The Tejas fighter is been powered by the GE-404 engine since its development and the IAF plans to induct over 120 planes with the same engine.So far, India has ordered around 100 engines for the fighter from GE and plans to buy more engines in the coming years.

The single engine fighter being developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), a DRDO unit will undergo an upgrade with more features that requires a more powerful engine and GE has been tasked to supply its GE-414 engine.


"The first two engines are for flight test. They are ready to go as and when the plane is ready. We are committed to deliver six more engines," said Mark Pearson, who leads the military engine programme for GE in an interview.

Pearson is betting on the over 700 engineers who work on design and take charge of manufacturing parts of GE's commercial aero engines, at its India centre in Bengaluru, to push for local co-development of the engine for AMCA, which ADA is developing.


India has begun preliminary design work on the stealth aircraft but has not launched a programme officially. GE is looking to partner with ADA, but it also requires a US government approval to collaborate on military programmes before its Bengaluru team can work on the jet engine programme.

The Bengaluru team has worked on the GE-9D engine that power the Boeing 777 planes and the engine that power the A380 aircraft. It also developing the 9X, which the local team in India is collaborating for the replacement engine of Boeing 777-9D.

"The foundation is already here built over 17 years," said Pearson.

GE, which has a manufacturing facility in Pune whose 40% contribution is engine components, says it could meet the mandated 50% requirement of local production for defence contracts within India. "We can deliver on our commitments as and when we see more orders," said Alok Nanda, General Manager, (India engineering operations) at GE.

MK1/A OR MK2/AMCA BECAUSE AMCA WILL REQUIRED 72+/115+ THRUST.

that knot the question . question is for what purpose if that news to be belived we already order 120(100+20)+8 for lca mk2.
now if kaveri have same thrust level that of ge414 then it meant for mk2 if higher thrust then for amca+mk2 (why u spent 1billion offset value if u are not going to use it?????????????????

GE F414 is slated for Mk2 and AMCA. The thrust of Mk2 is 62/98. AMCA will have 2 engine of kaveri. Once the 90kN engine is made, it can be tweaked to 100kN. With slight increase in dimensions, it can be made to 70/110 kN. The weight of engine for AMCA may increase to 1200kg as it is now instead of 1050kg aimed for Mk2 (98kN). Also, considering that it will be twin engine, it should be fine. Do note that kaveri is variable cycle engine. It can be made to give a turbo boost of 10% during take off even if it has same thrust as GE F414 (100kN).

120 units we have ordered is GE404 for LCA 1A, 8 GE 414 are for Mark 2, development phase.
If Kavari achieves close to ge414 level of performance, it will be used in LCA mk 2, will also be used to replace ge404 on LCA1a & RD33 in Mig29/29K as and when engine replacement is required there.
If Safaran is able to reduce weight of Kavari by 10% it will be usable in Rafael too !!

yes that precisely what i wanna know because currently there is no info on thrust, the target for kaveri was 60/95 and if they remain to this then we will be seeing same story all over again. i think they must target for 70+/110+ from starting so that iaf /navy don't have any more excuse to reject and can be used in AMCA too (and gtre can continuous it's development for 75+/125+ thrust)

well dimension of m88 and kaveri is a lot different and it may not possible without great effort,money and time . and that is not fruitful in current scenario ........

Do note that kaveri is variable cycle engine.
Are you sure about this? Variable cycle technology is pretty advanced, there's no fighter jet or engine in the world that has this technology implemented. Perhaps you meant to say something else?

well it is variable cycle engine., i have read it some where said by official ..............

and here from wiki
"The Kaveri is a variable-cycle, flat-rated engine and has 13% higher thrust than the General Electric F404-GE-F2J3 engines equipping the LCA prototypes"

well it is target..............

HAHA. Seems like some fanboy put it in there. I think it's reasonable to say that Kaveri is not variable-cycle (no one is even thinking of designing it that way right now - way futuristic); it is just way more ambitious than saying that it "produces 13% higher thrust than GE 404!"!!

Anyways, I went ahead and removed that statement from the Wikipedia page :)
