400 seconds means about 6.5 minutes. in case of war isnt it too much time??
Agree , but this is what the wiki says:

Shaurya can reach a velocity of Mach 6 even at low altitudes.[citation needed] On November 12, the missile reached a velocity of Mach 5 as it crossed a distance of 300 km, with a surface temperature of 700{+0} Celsius. The missile performed rolls to spread the heat uniformly on its surface. Flight time is between 500 seconds and 700 seconds. It has been described as a complex system with high-performance navigation and guidance systems, efficient propulsion systems, state-of-the-art control technologies and canisterised launch. It can be easily transported by road and launched by TEL. The missile, encased in a canister, is mounted on a single vehicle, which has only a driver's cabin, and the vehicle itself is the launch platform. This "single vehicle solution" reduces its signature – it cannot be easily detected by satellites – and makes its deployment easy. The gas generator, located at the bottom of the canister, fires for about a second and a half. It produces high pressure gas, which expands and ejects the missile from the tube. The missile has six motors; the first one is the motor in the gas generator. The centerpiece of a host of new technologies incorporated in Shourya is its ring laser gyroscope and accelerometer. The ring laser gyroscope was tested & integrated by the Research Center Imarat (RCI) based in Hyderabad

Hope, there must be some improvement on it since the 2nd test comes after considerable time.

Regards

moreover nice to see that India is testing missile by simulation in RCI, hyderabad. now we need lesser actual tests, ultimately ensuring timely induction and saving millions if not billions in R&D and testing. testing on simulator also ensures that there is no effect of listening stations or 22 lab ship of a potential enemy.

DRDO test-fires nuclear-capable Shaurya missile

New Delhi: Shaurya, a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface medium range missile, was test-fired from Chandipur-on-sea off the Orissa coast at 2.30 PM on Saturday. The missile with a maximum range of 750 km was test-fired from an underground silo at Integrated Test Range of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

They didn't say whether it was a success or a failure

this is first low flying hypersonic missile. ballistic missiles are all hypersonic from re-entering.

The original shaurya flew at Mach 5 so this is not the first one. This is an incredible achievement Mach 7.5 is
an incredible almost unimaginable speed, much faster than Brahmos block 2 in development.

let's see what TSS sir has to say

The Hindu : Sci-Tech / Science : Shourya missile launch successful

The missile rose from a canister fixed on the ground "on the dot" at 2.30 p.m., climbed to an altitude of 40 km and traversed 700 km at 7.5 times the speed of sound.

It performed a terminable manoeuvre and closed in on the pre-designated impact point in the Bay of Bengal with a high degree of accuracy. The missile was designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Avinash Chander, Chief Controller (Missiles and Strategic Systems), DRDO, said "the flight went off absolutely perfectly" and it met all the mission objectives. The radars located at the ITR, Chandipur and at Damra, also in Orissa, electro-optical and telemetry systems and two ships located near the impact point tracked the missile's entire flight. They reported on "the excellent performance" of the missile.

"It gave us full confidence for the production of this class of systems. The launch was to certify the production process and offer the missile for further production," he said.

Asked what was the altitude at which Shourya flew, Mr. Chander said it "was an entirely atmospheric flight" at a height of 40 km.

V.G. Sekaran, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Hyderabad, called it "a good flight" and he was confident that the production of Shourya would go on as per plan because the missile this time was picked up from the production lot. "We achieved the full range for the ground launch configuration," he said.
So which group is going to use this one?

This is a question from the 2008 IAS prelims_

In the context of Indian defence, consider the following statements :

1. The Shourya missile flies with a speed of more than 8 Mach.

2. The range of Shourya missile is more than 1600 km.

Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?

(a) 1 only

(b) 2 only

(c) Both 1 and 2

(d) Neither 1 nor 2

ANSWER (D)

Note: It's speed 6 Mach and range 600-700 km.

So I guess UPSC was wrong too.

This maybe unofficially Shaurya Block 2??this frees us up from having to rush Brahmos 2.
