Italy parties seek way out of election stalemate

It seems there has been gridlock, since no one has got majority. The centre left (communists) have the lead followed by berlusconi's center-right coalition. The 3rd spot is by a newcomer beppo grillo (who was comedian formerly). Mario monti the technocrat PM is 4th with least votes.

As a result: Italian results rattle global markets

North Italy (especially Lombardia region- milan is part of that) is the richest, most productive and heavily industrialised part of Italy while South Italy is relatively poor and poorly industrialised part of the Italy. Right parties mostly win the North Italy while Left parties mostly win South Italy. And then there are centre left, centre right parties to split these votes giving rise to hung parliament. It has been like this for past 2 decades. But some or the other form of coalition will be formed for the greater cause of Euro.

Every italian is right now tremendously pissed off with the election results, especially younger generation. People are talking about leaving country.

I thought Bologna in North Italy was/is a major stronghold for the PCI (Italian Communist Party)?

Finally! Italy set for new premier after two months without leader
There is much about 46-year-old Enrico Letta, named as Italy's new prime minister designate on Wednesday, that is likely to please financial markets and Rome's international partners.

Letta is young, moderate and pro-European, and despite his low public profile he has been a member of the European political elite for many years. Letta comes from the centrist wing of the center-left Democratic party and has had a trail-blazing career since the early 1990s when he joined the defunct Christian Democrats (DC) who dominated post-war Italian politics.
