Why can't we employ these types of sysytems in our army

We use steel core bullets, 1B1 life is infinite it will shoot straight even after 100 years if well maintained ..

@Kunal Biswas what is the life of insas rifle? and why can't we use steel bullets coated in copper instead of lead slugs in copper jacket which is costlier?

A question - has Indian Army finally moved towards 7.62mm rifle and dump INSAS, Excaliber and all other rifles with 5.56mm caliber? A few media reports suggest so.

This change in less than 20 years from switching from FAL 7.62 is a bad judgement excercised by the army twenty years back. It cost the country 1.1 million rifles at the cost of $9 billion. It will cost the same or may be more to switch over back to 7.62.

The only good reason advanced in early nineties was that 5.56 is a lighter rifle and ammunition is lighter, hence a soldier can carry a lot more. That argument that 5.56 rifle bullet kills less wounds more, hence wounded soldier requires more of his buddies to take him to safety, reduces the effectiveness of a squad. It seems all these copy paste arguments of American infantry thinking have stuck in Indian army's mind. They fooled themselves.

Now, the import lobby is overjoyed with this decision. In one stroke, INSAS, Excaliber is out and somebody with import connections will be in.

Sir, that is the philosophy of the Indian Army. COIN calls for a different approach. Rashtriya Rifles, although technically part of the Army, operates differently. They are doing what BSF and JKP used to do when militancy started.
