BSF is a border guarding force and they should focus on that. They have enough on their hands with pak army facing them in garb of rangers.

CRPF unfortunately may not have that quality. They are going to get slaughtered by these jehadis who get military training.

IMHO army will have to deal with this in J&K at least.

Documents discovered from the site of the Nagrota terror attack reportedly reveal that the attack could have been carried out by the Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Afzal squad. The notes allegedly say “Revenge for Afzal Guru.” (Times Now)

According to intelligence services, at least one Lashkar-e-Taiba cell had been active in the Valley, which had been plotting the attack at least two weeks in advance. (The Indian Express)

The strikes in Nagrota and Samba coincided with the day Pakistan’s new Chief of Army, General Qamar Javed Bajwa took office. Harsha Kakar, a retired Indian Army officer said, the strikes on the day he assumes his appointment could also be a message that he would follow his predecessor, Gen Raheel Sharif, in every way. The wives of two army officers staying in the family quarters helped avert a major hostage crisis. They blocked the entry to their quarters with household items, making it difficult for the terrorists to break into the houses. (PTI)

Can you tell about the reason and what are the redesign and can it be done for inner city like Delhi ,Mumbai,Srinagar were the lack of free land ?

Indian Army is perhaps the largest land owners in this country, Every major cantonment is like a mini city and their is no problem with land..

Its how its being utilized is important, I will give you an example, Fort William at Kolkata ..

Don't talk about nuclear overhang in the same breath as retribution. Both are mutually exclusive things. Nuclear overhang will exist regardless of whether we punish Pakistan or not and we can punish Pakistan even with the overhang. There was no nuclear bomb dropped during Kargil, so regardless of how lunatic the Pakistanis try to make themselves look, they understand the consequences. There is no need for an Indian to buy the Pakistani narrative of a nuclear overhang. There are enough people like Barkha Dirt doing that already.

How effectively drones can be use in the condition our guys are fighting, these little toys dont have thermal imaging capabilities and from above anyone in the bushes can easily dodge them ?

NSG is drilling everywhere these days (schools, hospitals, malls, hotels, temples etc etc) and doing some other very important things alongside such drills that are not wise to discuss on an open forum. That said, I still think there is a LOT that needs to be done for India's primary intervention force, their CAPEX budget needs to be massively increased so the induvidual SAG operators have as much spent per guy as any western specialist unit (can easily be done as SAG is actually quite small in number) and most importantly they NEED their own airwing

1) for the main CT task force in Delhi (preferably a fleet of turbofan a/c deployed at IGI for them to transport men and materials anywhere in India/the world).
2) EACH NSG hub to have 3-4 dedicated medium class helos 24/7 ready to transport their ready team anywhere in the hub's area of responsibilty or to transport them to the nearest airport if they need to fly out to support another hub/the main CT task force.

I still think the NSG remains rather toothless without its own airwing, having well trained men in one spot is regardless if they can swiftly get to where they need to go. India is so vast with such poor transport links that the only way to go is air. As we have seen in Paris, Belgium, San Bernidino, Orlando, Ohio etc etc the first few MINUETS are vital, it is no good if the NSG turns up 4-10 hours later; the damage will be done by then.

That's the officers living quarters in the cantonement. No one keeps any weapons with them in their homes and are not armed. There are scores of such living quarters at Nagrota where officers and their families stay being a 'peace' station as well as jawans and their families. Their children go to the Kendriya Vidyalya/Army Schools out there.

Guarding every inch of the vast area is impossible. Even the main highway goes through the cantonment. Fencing the entire area is impracticable and cannot be made 100% foolproof.

The terrorists' tactics are to go for such soft targets. The only way to prevent such attacks is good intel.

I wonder about professional security force guarding all the defence establishments? These individuals only job will be to guard given establishments. Base commanders may not be well qualified to do this job for more than one reason.

the NSG can commandeer any infra/vehicles/assets they require from the civil administration (not to mention the air support already from the IAF). i dont think there would be too much red tape involved in that process. maybe that's why they're not going in for an airwing. they could, though, really invest in some more ground vehicles like the Sherpa.

that said, it all boils down to political+bureaucratic will. even earlier i'm sure there would have been requests for new equipment but some babu would have kept turning them down citing no requirement. then came 26/11, and our boys turned up so shabbily kitted, it was embarrassing. even the political leadership let them down.

shivraj patil had to step down as home minister, but does anybody know if any bureaucrats too got fired because of poor equipment? somebody's head should have rolled!
