You see IAF emphasizes individual aircraft survivability. Hence, it requires maneuverable aircraft. (Does not mean the they don't work in teams)
why you need a highly manuverable fighter, are you going to perform a aero show in enemy territory using a 5th gen Jet.

F-35 (very aptly called the JSF) is meant for operating as a team and a team only. Its easy to shoot down a single F-35,

but a flight of F-35s will pose an immense challenge simply because they are networked to an unprecedented extent. It works on a new doctrine that centers around information sharing and net-centrality on a whole new level. The critical enabler of this doctrine is the data link hardware in the F-35s, that has enormous bandwidth and resilience.

This data link is on a level where we cannot replicate it with an indigenous data link if we do buy these aircraft. Obviously we cannot use the American data links as they are not compatible with the ones we operate today. As a result, we cannot use the F-35 the way its meant to be used. If we try to use it our way, it will be a disaster (How? Read any one of the articles ripping apart the F-35 for lack of maneuverability and a small payload and range).
Obviously, If we buy any Foreign aircraft we will modify the communication systems, take an example of P8..how this works with our Ships and other Soviet aircrafts,

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that IAF is not networked. But it is not networked to the extent to which USAF or RAF is networked.
Truth is our IAF now is working to integrate all our communication and Radar networks into one centric ..Hope they will complete it very soon.

We are also facing the same problem with the P-8I Poseidon aircraft of the Navy.
Here comes the P8 navigator and communication officer, Sir tell me what kind of problem we are facing in P8

About range , F-35 with internal fuel can fly as far as Rafale , Typhoon , Gripen , F-16 on 2 or more external fuel tank
About agility , many articles criticise its agility , how it cant sustain more than 4.9G at mach 0.8 , 20k feet , yet if you look at flight manual , the F-16 doesnt perform much better

And that is why the procurement process doesnot based on reading internet article , they are more often than not full of BS nonsense

New Delhi: Indian Air Force is said to had noted and analysed the performance, capabilities and firepower demonstration of Russian Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback Fighter/Bomber aircraft during the period of its combat action in Syria, deployed by Russian Air Force for bombing of DAESH/ISIS targets. In addition to that, reports were there that Indian Air Force has showed its interest in the aircraft for any possible future acquisition.

It is no wonder that the Sukhoi-34 is the most advanced fighter and bomber aircraft in the inventory of Russian forces which has seen combat last year itself, the Fullback was intended to replace the increasingly decrepit inventory of Cold War-era Soviet Su-24 Fencer strike aircraft. Unlike the Fencer, Su-34 has managed to retain the legacy of famous Flanker design and flight performance while making the Fullback truly a strike aircraft. The Fullback is a fighter-cum-bomber aircraft that means it can carry air-to-air missiles for self-defense and ground attack munitions at the same time for ground targets thanks to its twelve hardpoints, thus the aircraft is capable of performing deep bombing roles without any dedicated escort aircraft.



Su-34 is powered by 2 x Saturn AL-31FM-1 afterburning turbofan engines each generating 132 kN of thrust, sufficient enough to achieve a maximum cruising speed of 1,900 km/h. The Sukhoi bureau has designed the aircraft keeping in mind various combat missions the modern warfare needs, hence the Fullback can perform deep tactical ground and maritime bombing roles in all weather conditions, combat air patrol (CAP) and reconnaissance missions as well, in addition to that aircraft can perform ‘SEAD and DEAD’ roles in highly protected hostile environment with counter-attack and electronic warfare countermeasures deployed.

Weapons Payload Package: The Su-34 has a maximum payload capacity of 17,600lbs (around 8 tons) with a maximum ferry range of 4,000 km. The weapons package includes guided and unguided munitions for ground and naval targets and air to air missile for aerial threats along with a variety of recon, EW and targeting pods as per mission requirement.

Ground Attack Munitions includes stand-off-range air-to-ground tactical munitions Kh-59ME/MK and KH-55 cruise missiles, Kh-31A, Kh-31P/R Anti Radiation Missiles, Kh-29T, Kh-29L guided missiles having different range and warhead for a variety of different ground and maritime targets. Furthermore, the Fullback can carry rockets pods, guided and unguided drop bombs and cluster bombs for carpet-bombing.



Air-to-Air Missiles: Su-34 carries Vympel R-73 “Archer” short-range air-to-air missile having a maximum target range of 35 km. For long range interception the aircraft carries Vympel R-77 “Adder” which has a maximum range of 110 km. In addition to that there are some air to air missiles currently under development and once operational will add more punch in the firepower of Fullback.

There is no any possible perspective regarding the induction of Fullback into Indian Air Force, Still renowned defense expert Mr.M Guruswamy has figured out the roles of Sukhoi-34 Fullback when flown by Indian Air Force. As the aircraft has a maximum range of 4,000 km, to understand what its implication is, in case of hostilities, say the adversary was Pakistan. Now you can swing around all the way to Iran and then target its facilities from its western, unprotected flank. Just having a few Su-34 will pull them into a high spend spiral in deterrence infrastructure and technology. Or say you had a squadron (or even half) placed in the Andamans, and were China the adversary, you could swing down the South China Sea and attack its assets. Suddenly, any move against India would become a lot more painful. Not just that, one has tremendous reach for strategic interdiction all around.



But that is not all. This aircraft can also fulfill the function of an A-10 (minus the hallmark canon) in CAS roles. It has better countermeasures than a CAS plane, has equal protection to a CAS plane (the cockpit is a titanium tub) and has equal maneuverability to an A-10, thanks to its canards, without sacrificing speed. Beyond all, it can just be a munitions carrier. In a network centric environment, it can release smart munitions at safe distances while being directed from greater stealth sources. Thus, as more smarter munitions are developed, the greater the value of the plane increases over time.

Let us take this concept further. With specialized equipment this aircraft can turn into a more powerful Growler than the American EA-18G Growler. With the co-pilot being in next seat, the workload is distributed and decreased. Let us take this a step further. The Su-34 has the widest nose cone area which can be modified according to user specification. One can replace the PESA radar they have with a more advanced AESA radar. Thus not only increasing its capability but also making it a potent AEW platform. As conformal AESA capability increases, this could be a fast moving AEW platform to support a complement of Tejas, let’s say. Or it would provide much greater potency to a Jaguar strike.

The story doesn’t end there. Su-34 is being developed into a fast ASW plane. Imagine the area it can then secure? And all this without having to set up fresh logistics infrastructure, because we already have them with the Su-30MKI. If modified according to Indian specifications, the Fullback provides solutions in close air support (CAS), Strategic Interdiction, Strategic Bombing, Naval Strike and many more roles where none of the aircraft exists today. Not to mention they are a lot more cost effective than other alternatives. They have been built to equal or outperform F-15 E Strike Eagles.

60 airframes of Su-34 Fullback and suddenly Indian Air Force has the capabilities which challengers/enemies can’t discount and it spikes their spend in deterrence. That spend is a drain in itself and “Would Be A Nightmare For Both Our Enemies China And Pakistan Equally.”

That seems to be just another paid article don't read much into it
You do realize that its a fighter looking bomber, more of a bomber, less of a fighter???
But the question is, will they buy it ?? Is there any space left after 36 Rafales, 200 Single or Twin jet fighters, 100 Tejas MK1A etc ?

AMCA is running in top secret. Don't worry. PM is excellent in keeping things in wraps (secret) and revealing those surprisingly. I am confident that one day that will happen. When you will least expect it, Mr. Modi will come out and announce that 1st flight of AMCA will happen the next day at some time (shocking the enemies). Regarding Fullback, MOD is not a child to go gaga on paid articles. If it saw some way it could serve, they might order half sqdn. some years later. Who knows?

Yup I know it's a bomber. But IAF till now hasn't shown any intention in this regard.
Nor has outlined any operational necessity for such bombers.

It will be a very random decision to make thus I am sceptical

The role of aerial superiority fighter for the INS Vishal is up for grabs but what is certain is it won't include the Mikoyan MiG-29K multirole fighter to be deployed aboard the INS Vikrant.

Leading contenders for this key role on the INS Vishal include France's Dassault Rafale, a naval version of which (the Dassault Rafale M) already serves aboard the French aircraft carrier, Charles de Gaulle, as part of French Naval Aviation (Aéronavale).


Yet the most logical option that Navy shall pursue is NAVAL AMCA. It's a fifth generation fighter which can be tailor build for Naval air arm.

Today navy along with ADA and HAL has developed enough expertise to take on development of N-AMCA on their own. Today N LCA is at some stage to say that with confidence. However the Naval share in budget is small and lowest. But requirement of carrier born fighter like N AMCA is going to plus 150 for Navy; 55-60 for INS Vishal and 30 each for INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya once their serving fighters comes due for replacement. That's 120 for carriers but there will also be some in reserve and for training at shore bases. By account of what IAF orders per type, in Navy's case 150 plus is good enough.

So in my opinion. Navy should invest in Naval AMCA alone if necessary and not wait for IAF. From now and time when INS Vishal is supposed to get commissioned there is a period of 15-16 years which is good enough for developing Naval AMCA if things gets started now. In case NAMCA gets late there will always be NLCA MK-2 which is Gripen E equivalent. Very much 4.5 generation and technological equivalent of any fighter of that generations that one can get from importing.

In any case navy should not opt for either F/A-18 or Rafale M. By 2030 these will be hopelessly obsolete against J-20 and J-30 which will Navy's prime adversaries.

This 200-300 foreign single jet RFI has been floated with justification of getting AC engine ToT/AESA Radar ToT. This is what I responded to - No country is going to hand over that AC tech easily to India. At max, u will end up assembling some engine parts. If u really want it, learn it yourself.
we can partner with russia who will easily transfer the technology. Though it will not be as updated as US and europe, it will certainly give us a working engine.

There are civilian spin-offs too. For example, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) now uses the investment casting technology developed by GTRE for manufacturing blades for gas turbines used in power generation.
Do you have any idea of new crystal blades developed by our research institutes and they had claimed that they are better than the one used in Al31.

Absolutely wrong. J 20 is not a true 5th gen fighter and rafale beat it in all performance parameters.

That's what the chinese thought, but they had to instead buy 2 dozen Su-35 just for the sake of using their engine into the J-20. Russians are also not that cooperative in ToT of engine tech.

They have offered us TOT multiple times. We make AL 31 in India. Though they may be supplying the alloys.

How so?
For start J-20 has internal weapon bays Rafale don't.

By 2030 Rafale will be 30 plus year old airframe and J-20 will be just 10. And by then J-20 will also have mature electronics. So no, in 2030 Rafale won't be able to beat J-20. This is the whole point.

Russians have helped us with subsystems that nobody would. However to say that they have helped us with critical technologies can not more further from truth.

Despite ToT on Al-31 we are looking for some partener for development of an engine for AMCA. Worst example despite claiming 100% ToT for T-90 Bhishma OFB Avadi did not get ToT on materials of Gun barrel. Consiquently and indigenous gun barrel was developed for T-90 Bhishm.
