#IAF may buy 40 Nirbhay sub sonic cruise missile (source Saurav Jha)

Good choice. This will reduce the chance of risking IAF platforms during initial conventional strikes. Taking out those new radar/ sam networks. Also works against PLA in Tibet. Not to mention adding onto area denial around Indias coast. 40 would be just a starter. IAF, IN would be the biggest buyers.

This may just be India playing games for ToT with no actual commitment. India already has an LCA. Good enough considering LCA are only needed near the border with Pak and China. I doubt anything will be done. India does not have the money or the resources to build another line of fighters. By the time anything substantial comes of this, Gripen and F-16 would be obsolete and a new RFP would be needed. So is this heading towards a F-35 deal? Perhaps. You never know. Would this kill the AMCA? Hopefully not as the AMCA is a further development of the LCA infrastructure.

You still need to use fighters to carry them, but the strike range could be expanded, if the missile reaches the promised ranges. At the end however, it's more like a race between Nirbhay and Brahmos NG, which might get extended range capabilities, while offering the same loads on an MKI.

MMRCA rerun would be the most absurd decision at this stage. Can’t believe this is on the table.

Feeling so sorry for all F16 - Gripen supporters :hehe:
For SE's nothing has changed, even if more competitor come in, since they will have the cost advantage for sure. They also were able to team up with Indian partners already, which puts new vendors in the weaker position to find industrial partners. The Boeing/HAL connection will be interesting to follow now!

The only loser is sadly IAF once again. More delays, less capability, more dependance on MKIs :tsk:

How many years before IAF manages to make a choice between 6 fighters ? How many years before the GOI manages to conclude negotiations with the selected OEM ? And last but not the least, how many years before the first MMRCA 2.0 plane is inducted ?

This is getting ridiculous. Some strong lobby will push for F-35 , and that alone will delay the process for years because US Gov is not ready to sell it to India as long as India is one of the active backers of Russian military industrial complex ( FGFA, S400).

It is ridiculous and most importantly, it shows once and for all, that the NDA government has no clue about defence procurement and modernisation at all!!!
They came with big promises to do things better and actually made things worse, but not knowing what to do. Having a finance minister and a spokesperson taking over MoD as a part time job, won't help the forces or the security of the country!

IAF seems to have replaced almost all ST68 Tin shield radars with Rohini radars.
Almost all SWAC airbases use MPR/LLTR with extra Rohini
Do we still use Indra II?

We don't know what is happening behind the scenes. Government never takes unilateral decision. It would always consult IAF before deciding to scrap SEF. So instead of speculating and strengthening anti Modi government forces, let's wait for more information and clarification from IAF or Government for the rationale behind the decision.

I can speculate that maybe by this delaying tactics, government can force IAF to order more LCA in current configuration or MK1A and simultaneously speed up MK2 and procure more orders for MK2. By the delay, AMCA may also get ready. We already have FGFA or PAKFA partnership with Russia. Who knows if there is any internal information of Russia coming forward with more TOT sharing. If they don't share, the money instead goes to west.

Indian Air Force Wants Fighter Jet Deal Worth Rs 1.25L Cr To Be Fast-Tracked
http://indiandefencenews.info/d-2/
LoL
Iff this news is true, then it means the IAF is literally screaming for more Rafales. I mean a G2G deal for MMRCA only makes sense if GoI buy more Rafale. GoI cannot justify buying any other fighter without a competitive process. And if the IAF is asking GoI to haul ass, their only option is to order more aircraft via G2G route. G2G route => more aircraft of an existing type (in this case, the Rafale). Now only if RaGa can keep his trap shut.
Lets see what decision RM takes.

I really like how you are still insistent on SEF being integrated. Let me give you another hint about what the result of this is going to be. It would be

Isn't ordering more rafales the most logical thing to do? We have already ordered 36. It is a capable aircraft. Firstly, why increase our logistical burden by adding another aircraft type to the fleet, and secondly, what is left to review in those 6 fighters again that we haven't seen in the last mmrca saga. As far as the thought of Rafale being expensive is considered, let me remind you all, the same was felt in the 80's when Mirage 2000's were procured. But, we all know they were the most capable aircrafts in our fleet until the Sukhoi-30 mki's came. Quality comes at a price, and we are talking of the most technology intensive military platforms, when we talk of combat airplanes.

This new MMRCA is a hogwash. The govt is throwing smoke bombs left and right to keep Russia (FGFA) on its toes, to tell the Muricans that we are still interested in F-16s and F-18s (PS: F-35 bhi dekhlenge) while the French and the Indians negotiate a deal for more Rafales.
