In the Middle East, a Catch-22 for the CIA

    This is one of the major problem with any intelligence agency - work with friendly intelligence agencies and, at the same time, also spy on them! The Pakistani botch up is a case in point.

    This article, to some extent, indicates the issues involved in espionage in friendly countries.

    However, it would not plausible to believe that there is no humint in these country.

    I wonder if the US being caught unaware is the fault of the CIA alone. It could be complacency that is generated when the pennies keep falling in place!

    What really caught the US unaware and what should be done to ensure it does not happen again.
