IAF chief NAK Browne recently indicated that Indian air force might build in house facilities for development of the Medium sized fighter aircraft in next 20 years, IAF is hoping to break dominance of state owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd in countries aircraft manufacturing sector.

Base Repair Depot (BRD) of IAF have been growing in confidence in maintenance of the various aircrafts in current fleet of IAF and has been carrying out work which was earlier tasked to HAL in past. IAF already has taken up its first project; IAF is planning to build a trainer aircraft in Base Repair Depot (BRD) with help of other Base Repair Depot (BRD) operated by IAF.

Idrw.org spoke to retired IAF officials on this new development and was told that IAF already has trained talent pool , which was instrumental in fixing issues related to Jaguar aircraft which HAL was not able to fix in past and have also worked on Bae Hawks recently .

Defence analytics believes IAF seems to be now confident on its own ability to work independently on aircrafts’ projects, HAL inability in past to work on schedule and failure in improving its own quality of workmanship forced IAF to develop their own talent pool to meet it needs.

According to sources close to idrw.org, IAF is willing to work with private players in building up its own capability and it also will be interesting to see if IAF will take Lca Tejas Project under it wings and help in fix issues with the project which has delayed the whole program for last few years now.

Will be interesting to see how an organisation which has not even built a trainer will build an mmrca level fighter in 20 years. IAF has always blamed ADA and Hal for delays and project mismanagement will go about it. My guess is that they will eventually come to appreciate the effort out scientists have put in.

IDRW folks are a bunch of Neanderthals. IAF's and IN's participation in AMCA project from the outset has been a news for many aeons. Every mistake in the Tejas project is being avoided in AMCA project.

AFAIK, IN is not involved in AMCA.

Building inhouse would mean IAF can make their people accountable for lapses, unlike in HAL.

IAF is looking for a mighty fall from great heights.............

    > Dedicated Design Department headed by Vice Admiral - No
    > Specialized Course supported by IIT - No
    > Can Independently draft Specifications for large systems -No
    > Pool of capable engineers - No
    > Deep understanding and relationships with PSU / DRDO - No
    > Silent Service w/o Turf Wars and Political Games - No

If IAF doesnt want to crash the plane, better to take some corrective measures...........
