French 4x4 armoured vehicle competes in Brazil

BRAZILIA, -- The Brazilian Army Evaluation Center (CAEx) in Rio de Janeiro is evaluating the Avibras Tupi 4x4 high-mobility protected vehicle, which is based on France's Renault Trucks Defense Sherpa Light Scout.

The platform is being offered to meet the army's VBMT-LR multirole 4x4 armoured vehicle requirement, for which an initial 32 vehicles are to be bought under an urgent requirement intended for peacekeeping operations, and then two tranches of 77 units each could be procured.

Several manufacturers have shown interest in participating in Brazil's appraisal process with their vehicles, and the original deadline of 3 April for companies to propose in-country tests has been extended to 16 June, the army's Project Management Office told IHS Jane's on 6 May.
