    it is CHina-made Z-8AEW helicotper.

it ruled out the possiblity that CHina keeps ordering more Russia-made K-31 early-warning helicopter...

    Truly looks home made! :D

Bad guy you dont use a term like home made for hardware like this, you either call it Indigenous or Home grown.

Actually, its not a MI-17 ripoff, its a Chinese version of the French Super Frelon which China produces locally and is designated as the Z-8. The basic helicopter has been around in PLAN since 1977.

The radar appears to be a "bar" array, seen in these images in the stowed position. The array would presumably be lowered during operation to allow 360 degree coverage much like the French "Horizon" AEW system mounted on the Aerospatiale Super Puma Mark 2. An alternate possibility is that the radar is the battlefield SAR-type for use by the PLA.

Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, I'd correct myself as say it is an Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon rip-off.

Thats pretty funny. No EW radar is going to be mounted on its ass without a pedestal to lower it.

I think you mean French licensed Super Frelon.

It rules out the possibility of needing Russia's latest kit when China thinks 40 year old French junk is better. :pound:

Agreed they copied but still one can't deny that the Chinese will soon have an indigenous AEW Helicopter something we have not been able to do. Furthermore by license production of MI-17 the Chinese are learning and sooner or later they are evolving so congrats to Chinese.

those who say copycat or rip off know nothing. this chopper is lisenced.

give you an F-22, let's see if you can copy it.

you never understand that the certain level of industry and technology development of a country is needed to make or 'copy' something.

    Ignorance knows no bounds。 :-)

By the way, you won't have to wait long to see a batch of new and advanced Chinese weapons coming off the blueprints and rolling off the production lines!

All in the next 1-2 years. lol!
