China's Emergency Sat Launch Vehicle Raises Eyebrows
    [IMG]

ZHUHAI, CHINA — The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (CASIC) displayed a model of its FT-1 solid launch vehicle for emergency satellite launches at the Airshow China here near Hong Kong.

A road-mobile trailer truck would transport the 20-meter-long rocket to its launch location where it would be erected into a vertical position.

The unanswered question by CASIC representatives is why anybody would need to make an emergency launch of a small satellite using a road-mobile trailer truck.

The placard on the exhibit states: “It mainly offers launch service for domestic and international small satellites with a 300 kg level or below. It has the characteristics of high orbital injection precision, low cost, easy structure, high mobility, rapid launch, high reliability, and short production cycle.”

Airshow China, known officially as the 10th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, is being held from Nov. 11-16.

well satellites are clearly going to be targeted in future wars, so it dose make sense to have emergency satellite launches in an actual war scenario to get your military moving . Both the US and China are already capable of targeting each others satellites .... so this makes complete sense to me at least

china is probably afraid that its sats, which are already in orbits can be shot down by enemies. why else call it as an emergency launch vehicle?
this is really an intelligent development- no loose ends.

without satelites it would be like fighting with eyes closed. a very clever move by china.
hope india too develops an emergency sattelite launcher.

    The idea is magnificent.

It will allow immediate surveillance of an area that becomes essential for surveillance for a military emergency or for natural disaster without the timelag to reposition other satellites from their optical footprint.

I have been hearing for a long time that old ICBMs are being reworked as anti-satellite weapons. If this is true, then satellites may be destroyed in war. This looks like a means to launch communication satellites quickly.

However it is a difficult concept. Heavy rockets are not very mobile specially with delicate satellites.

This article says why anti satellite weapons are not of much use in the theatre of war.
    http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/...ptively-weak-anti-satellite-capabilities.html

So having capability to launch emergency satellite launch vehicles makes sense.

Is China going to keep satellites on stand by to require an emergency launch? Satellite launches are booked in advance while satellites are being built.

Obviously there is more to it than meets the eye. May be China will keep some recon satellites on stand by in case US takes out in a war

Seems the satellite launch systems of a ready made launch system, which will be marketed to countries which do not have the launch pads and associated infra !!

This word is pretty self explanatory. Why just china ,all major powers will have to have this capability.

it seems eyeballs were not big enough and a little 'slowness' here...
    ---------------------------

you guys might has missed a thread in Oct 2013 in Sci&Tech sub-forum--“Kuaizhou” & U.S. Perceptions of Chinese Military Space Strategy by W.G.Ewald...

this is not an idea, a dream or some nation's typical empty talking/big mouth but a reality here.....LOL....
    -----------------
the first ever Launch Mission--快舟1号,KUAIZHOU-1--- took place on Sep 25th 2013.

the trail of the Rocket after Lauch

after launch ,the first published official CG on the Twitter by the R&D team--China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (CASIC) ,the same developer of the FT-1 system displayed on Airshow China 2014....due to the confidential consideration, the news photo was not published this time unlike other space missions...but this official CG has told us quite a lot of info about this 3-stage, solide rocket launch vehicle...

months later, the first batch of Images gained by this Low-Orbit small Satelllite were released ...and in two severe natural disasters, the timely images were also released...note: the first image below was taken on 26th sep 2013,within 24 hours after the Launch...

so far, this Sat has been in the Orbit for more than 12 months...so I would dare to share more real image of Kuaizhou-1 before the launch here...

BTW , the real Launcher Vehicle is more like a Multi-Axle ICBM Lauch Vehicle...

the displayed FT-1 actually is a simplified and downgrade one(or a decoy project) to introduce the Fast Launch Concept ...some TV news screen shots about FT-1 Launch system

Please give this to Pakistan for free, they need it because they cant seems to launch anything in outer space. Let them have focus on science and tech, rather then on exporting terrorists.

    Breaking news

...the second launch of KuaiZhou serial Rapid Responsive Satellite--KZ-2 happened just 1 hour ago...
Reported by the national TV station at 1500 clock news...
this lauch is planned one and we are anticipating this second launch for quite a while...when I was in Zhuhai having some conversation with the CASIC staff of FT-1 project team, some hint about this space mission was also given...

the Xinhua net news... China launches new disaster monitoring satellite - Xinhua | English.news.cn

KZ-2 is still a Optical observation satellite, the same as KZ-1...but the distinguishability is well improved to 0.3m level comparing to KZ-1(1.2m)

    ------------------------------------
    [IMG]

the FT-1 could launch 300kg class (KZ serial capacity is little more, around 400 kg)small satellites including :

    1. Emergency optical romote senesing SAT
    2 .Emergency Communication SAT
    3. SAR Sat
    4. MMW SAR Sat
    5. Micro-Naro Satellites
    6. all kinds of scientific SATs
