BEIJING: Deriding India's democratic system, official Chinese media here on Thursday defended ruling Communist Party's monopoly on power, saying if China had opted for democracy it would have become another India "where around 20 per cent of the world's poorest live".

Democracy is the most scary word for CCP.
They want to give the people over there a false sense of security and not wake them up from the rat race like any other Govt ijn the world.

If we had been a CCP ruled Govt. rather than Democracy,we would have been shot by now for criticizing our form of govt. Every govt comes with its own faults.. its upto us to minimize its effects

Oooh...someone is really afraid of democracy inside CCP. CCP cant take much criticism and competition from nearest competitors or it want the average chinese to think that CCP is stil in control despite the slowing economy and numbers and India is not a competition.

CCP doesnt want the economic model and the new strides of India to be linked with the newly democratically elected Govt in India.

Oh Well!!!

Propaganda... Its how the CCP makes itself look soo cute.

Democracy is not a problem, proper governance is. Still cant blame them for mocking something alien to them. They shouldn't forget they got a headstart on opening up of the economy.
This. India's problem is not its democracy. It's terrible governance. Don't drink the CCP koolaid. If China went Mao's way, they'd both be poorer than AND a repressive communist shithole to boot.

Can't deny the fact that PRC is way ahead of India in science, technology, and poverty alleviation.

While PRC's totalitarian command economy makes it efficient in rising up, it also makes it efficient in going down very quickly, like the USSR. One must also appreciate that India's democracy has its strengths, just like it has its weaknesses. India is slow, but India is steady. Just look at the recent bill passed by the lower house but blocked by the upper house. That is called checks and balances. Does PRC have that? No.

India's problems are compounded by nepotism, favouritism, corruption, and inefficient governance. India, however, is taking steps in removing poverty.

Note sure why people are "pessimistic". Lets not compare India to China a moment, because there are many reasons for the success China has had recently. Compared to what other country has India done poorly from the point it started at in 1947? The economy has grown faster than pretty much any other economy, poverty is down as a percentage, education is up. Pretty much every metric is super positive. I think India has done an amazing job, sure there's work left to do, but it will do so at its own pace. India doesn't need to follow the China path, because for every short cut there is a long term consequence, must like steroids.

China is right about Indian "Democracy" to some extent but again Chinese Communism system is not perfect either since their poor track record of "Freedom" is well known where they roll tanks over civilians over dissent.

No system is going to be perfect ever so China should stop whining since there is still large scale poverty there.

Every country make mistakes. The question is not if you do something wrong but how fast you can correct your wrong-doing. The reason that China run ahead of India is:
1. Chinese make lot more mistakes than India, which means they are exploiting more opportunities than Indians;
2. Chinese fixed their problem far more quickly than Indians.

India's problems are compounded by nepotism, favouritism, corruption, and inefficient governance. India, however, is taking steps in removing poverty.
Almost every developing country has the same problems. How fast you can fix these problems is the key what position you will hold in next 50 years.

You know, India would be shamed if anyone compared her to any other developing country including China in 1947.
You know, there were only Asian countries having her own industrial system in 1947: Japan and INDIA!

The economy has grown faster than pretty much any other economy, poverty is down as a percentage, education is up. Pretty much every metric is super positive. No one is asking India to follow the China path. But India need to act faster: industrialization is becoming harder and harder for late player. Once Chinese finishes Industrialization in 20 years, the door will probably close for everyone.

Because Taiwan didn't get democratic until they became rich.
Basically, the system that made them rich was the same system in China today.

I will simply say that China's economy was made by democratic countries. Communist
Chinese are not responsible for the economic miracle just enjoying it.
