It will cut down time to the South China Sea given that India is fostering very close and firm ties with SE Asian countries and Japan.

Reduced cost and time to ship Indian manufactured products and minerals to the buyers such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China (Indian's major trading partners).
This and the Shanghai Free Zone are designed to compete with Hong Kong and Singapore. My personnal feeling is that the mostly hurted one would be Singapore. Transhipment at Singapore would be greatly reduced when this and the rail link from China to SEA is completed.

True. Singapore will be the greatest loser and Thailand the greatest winner.
However, Thailand will no longer be a land of fun and frolic.
