Carter says his role is 'superior' to other ex-presidents Jimmy Carter is probably not the most popular member of the ex-presidents' club. In an NBC News interview concerning publication of his White House diary, Carter appeared to be putting down his presidential colleagues. "I feel that my role as a former president is probably superior to that of other presidents," Carter said. "Primarily because of the activism and the injection of working at the Carter Center and in international affairs, and to some degree, domestic affairs, on energy conservation, on (the) environment, and things of that kind." Carter later issued a clarification: "What I meant was, for 27 years the Carter Center has provided me with superior opportunities to do good."
