The speaker of Indian state of Manipur has claimed that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh pose a greater threat to India's national security than Rohingya Muslims, reports The Times of India.

Manipur assembly Speaker Yumnam Khamchand Singh reportedly made the statement in Bhopal on Tuesday as he made a brief stopover there while returning from Vidisha.

He spoke to reporters about the problem arising out of migration of Rohingya Muslims and India's central government's affidavit in Supreme Court to deport them.

According to the Times report, Singh said Manipur shares a 367km porous international border with Myanmar, but it faces a bigger threat of illegal migration from Bangladesh.

"Bangladeshi migrants have changed the demography in several districts of Manipur," Singh was quoted to have said. He took oath as Manipur Assembly speaker in March 2017.

"Illegal immigrants from Bangladesh infiltrate the border, learn Manipuri dialect and in a year mingle with the local population."

The Times report said Manipur has a population of 2.7 million, which includes 1.3 million from the local Meitei tribe.

To check illegal immigration, the state government cleared a land reform bill which is pending with New Delhi.

"We want a new land reform law on the lines Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, whereby only agriculturists can purchase land and non-agriculturists are barred. In Manipur, stricter land purchase rules will protect the rights of indigenous people," the speaker was quoted to have said.

Blame BSF , Its their duty to prevent illlegal migration. In tamilnadu and kerala even in small towns and villages Bengalis r working. Most of them r poor labours. We dont know they r from west Bengal or Bangladesh. significant numbers of Bengali woman r working in massage parlour and household prostitution in southern states

The government would like to divert attention to Rohingyas because they are just few hundred thousands and easier to deport. They won't say or do anything about Bangladeshis because they are in millions and near impossible to deport.

Both are very real threats.

The Rohingyas being settled in Jammu was not an accident, there are sinister motives behind it, to ultimately force Hindus to leave as they succeeded doing in the valley.

Bangladeshis are much more rampant and they are an economic problem as well as a security one. However, they will be in some ways harder to deal with.

That does not mean we do not deal with Rohingyas. Let's start with them and move onto Bangladeshis. As it is, the Congi ecosystem will fight tooth and nail to prevent the Rohingyas deportations. So it will be a significant achievement if we manage it.

Seeing the current scheme of things deporting Rohingyas alone will be a major feat for this Govt. Secondly everybody was complicit when millions of BDs were silently entering India without check. Now that they have grown in numbers the damage is done.
