The increase weight was by 1.5 ton, This was conformed by DRDO itself, It seems the problem is resolved as Avadi is preparing for production of Arjun MK2, The link is posted in this thread ..

I am disclosing this particular picture from days of late 90s Probably when Indian personal from Indian government including part of Army and DRDO when to Israel with prototype of Arjun MK1, There they tested various component of Israeli technology for Arjun including revolver ammunition feeding system, FCS as well as self protection suit, In return we perhaps offered with Kanchan Armour technology ..

Indian official stayed in Israel for some months in secrecy and were issued with their uniform with ranks, before shipped back to India with Arjun prototype ..

===============

@sayareakd Sir, The information you said long back that an Isreali guy posted lot of information on old forum regarding Arjun in Israel were true, Indeed ..

Avadi HVF capacity being ramped up

Capacity at the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Avadi, which manufactures heavy battlefield equipment for Indian Army, is being increased significantly even as the factory is gearing up to manufacture Main Battle Tank Arjun Mark II.
HVF is awaiting final confirmation from Army for Mark II, according to Hari Mohan, Senior General Manager. Some of the major components, chassis building, gear box and miscellaneous components will be part of the augmentation for which construction is going on and machinery is being procured, he told newspersons on the sidelines of a CII conference on Defence Manufacturing Technologies on the theme ‘Defence Indigenisation – Window of Opportunities’.
Revenue increase
Mohan said HVF is likely to report a 60 per cent increase in revenue to nearly ₹2,400 crore this year, and next year, it will be nearly ₹3,000 crore. “We have been booked by Indian Army till 2035,” he said.
HVF has nearly 300 industry partners, of which 100 are in Tamil Nadu. Mohan said there are many items that HVF is yet to indigenise. There is ample business opportunity for the private sector.
“There are also severe capacity limitations for our existing vendors,” he said.
.

For supplying a major component that goes under the chassis of the battle tank, HVF had only one vendor, and is now developing Lucas TVS as another source in Chennai. All the components that go into the tanks are very technology intensive. “No failure is acceptable, and this is a challenge,” he said.
Kunal Bhai was Arjun MK2 Inducted? long ago i knew they ordered some 125 Tanks, later never knew they were Inducted or not....
thanks in Advance...
Any news on it's induction, production? Is MOD is going to increase numbers from 118?

Arjun present MTU 838 Ka-501 diesel engine

The Bharat powerpack - set to replace the existing powerpacks of the Arjun Mk I and Mk II MBTs, as well as power the future MBT - is identified as a 2,200 kg unit powered by DHPP-A fuel.
This is intended to operate at altitudes of up to 16,400 ft and temperatures as low as -20° Celsius. This requirement is likely a reflection of the Indian Army's need to operate in mountainous areas, particularly when deployed along India's border with Pakistan.

They are not Armored and they are detachable once, Only used when going at longer ranges and not under combat environment ..

We have other threads where we do comparison sake debates ..

External fuel tanks (2 drums assembled on the rear) of Arjun MBT MKII looks vulnerable to easy attaacks, are these blast proof fuel tanks or normal one, please also comment on the other comparable MBTs on same.

According to link it said, Its set to replace which could mean its ready and the MK2 comes out of Avadi will feature Indian power-plant and not German ..

Other than that their are no sources about present status of the engine ..

what is the current status of the Bharat Power Pack?

But wouldn't the tank have to go through the long drama of winter trial, summer trial, high altitude trial, under water trial, space travel trial, tight rope traversal etc. with the new engine before it's made SOP?? So far we haven't heard anything about the tank being mated with Bharat Power pack. Although, I would say that they should integrate ASAP, that will eliminate the issue of lowered top-speed due to the extra flab Mk2 put on! It may be easier to integrate the engine than reduce that 2 tonne weight that the Army now wants!

The most important part is reducing dependency on imported equipment ..

The engine is the main imported content which must get replaced ..

=================

Though Army could have asked to mount existing licensed produced 1000hp engine ( T-90`s V92S2 High Power Diesel Engine ) in Arjun MK1 with modification, Same as 1400hp engine is modified for MK2 ..

Source : http://ofbindia.gov.in/products/data/armoured/add_11.htm

Though at lower cursing speed but more torque, The tank would have been logistic friendly ..
