Air Force on high growth path: IAF chief
Last Updated: Friday, May 03, 2013, 00:23

Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Air Force (IAF) is on a "high growth path" and in the process of acquiring multi- spectral strategic capabilities, Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne today said.

Addressing the commanders of the Southern Air Command (SAC) here, Browne complimented the air warriors for the success of recently conducted Air Force exercises 'Iron Fist' and 'Live Wire.'

These exercises showcased the power of IAF in wide spectrum of sub-conventional and conventional operations in a net centric environment, he said.

The IAF chief updated Station Commanders of SAC on the security scenario with special reference to the implications in the southern peninsula.

He underscored the importance of leadership, team building and discipline which was a major contributor in the success of these exercises, a defence release said today.

On his arrival on a two-day visit, Browne and his wife Kiran Browne, President of Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Central), were received by Air Marshal R K Jolly, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, SAC at the Air Force Station here.

Browne was presented an impressive guard of honour by the Air Warriors of SAC. Kiran Browne participated in various welfare and social functions organised by Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional).

Conducting successful operation and skill of pilots does not indicate Growth but efficiency..

IAF lack basics >> For example both machine and men, 99.9% of IAF consist of foreign aircraft and have no plans for reserve pilots unlike TA for Army..

In a War, Down Machines are replaced faster then they fall same for Pilots..

We are no longer challenged by a small and dependent country such as Pakistan but China who is independent and have proper oiled National Defense Industry..

the development of indigenous defence manufacturing has to gradually get up to china's speed or at least past the critical mass stage where their lead over us becomes insubstantial and we deliberately lag them by a controlled gap which can be closed if the need arises through short-term sacrifice from other areas

until we get our mfg up and about they will ALWAYS have the upper hand as they can have MORE

this tendering purchase system is slow, cumbersome , open to political debate , open to "leakages" and then delivery is at the mercy of others and if german , then they say you cant use for war , if usa , they say we withhold the source code - in times of emergency , supplies and spares may be shortcoming

there's no substitute for mfg our own - as china has been doing for a long time since .

Which "growth path" is IAF Chief talking about? The depleting sqds? or the MMRCA/LCA deals in air? :hmm:
