Karzai must have been at his humorous best. If the Afghans help the Pakis and US boots are on the ground, then we must go all out to help the US decimate this archenemy of ours. (Provided that the government of the day is sane enough to understand the opportunity the situation will present)
Let's kill the serpent in its own backyard!8)

To come across a journalist like saleem safi is a rarity in the journalistic community as a whole, let alone in Pakistan. He is one of those rare commodities to never ever force a PoV on others, (I am yet to see an interview where he has done that), especially given the platform he sits on, precisely what a journalist is supposed to be.

@topic,

People need to listen to the interview and then pass the judgment on Karzai, we can all be rest assured the Pakistani media pretty much works as a tool in the hands of the Pakistani establishment which can make a mountain of a molehill, and so happened here as well.

Surprise, surprise! ToI also flashed the same headlines as the Pakistanis!

Karzai did some plain talk as was expected of him, blaming squarely Pakistan for all sorts of terrorism in Afghanistan, indirectly he left enough pointers which would indicate Pakistani establishment complicit in all that terrorism, heck the indians need to grow a spine like him and do as plain a talk with the Pakistanis, but then we are all too engrossed in "aman ka tamasha".

Ejazr,

Thanks a lot for sharing that video.

The problem the US will face at war with Pakistan is. pakistan will definitely declared Jihad if any war arises.
They have already declared Jihad against anything sane.

the whole muslims of the south Asia region will become hot and ready to take on the US
I doubt even Paki Muslims would give a damn.

and Pakistan will get benefit from it
Paki army, no doubt, if they survive the bombs.

The karzai has no option to put its weight on pakistan because he has to live in Afghanistan..
You got Nukes. Nuke Karzai.

Word around is Obama video conference with Karzai on daily basis. There is no chance US is loosing here in Astan. Those who think otherwise are either ignorant or not well-informed.

Karzai is emerging as a wise diplomat & not just another replacement package. Stakes are getting high from all sides & make no mistake US will be earning most of it.

why are ppl getting worked up?it would be rediculouse to think that that would not be the case ..afghanistan has everything in common with pakistan which is defnitely not the case with india.Few bilions for aid over a period of 10 years cannot change the blood relation which we the pakistanis have with afghans, now matter how big of puppet is sitting there in kabul.

lets suppose for a minute.turkey attacks greece ..who would you think the west would support?obviously greece becuz of their culture/ religioun commonelities ..same is the case with afghans and pakistanis..or even iranians..they share more with us then they ever will share with indians..its just that both pakistani and afghans gov are puppets of the west ..so they wil do anything to make them happy ..but ppl to ppl ..we have everything in common :)

Karzai fears a similar fate with a looming NATO withdrawal hence this PR to calm Pakistan

Karra: Why then, do Afghans on the street hate Pakistan? Not just Kabul, Herat and the other "Northern Alliance regions" - even the Pashtun belt hates Pakistan. Any idea why? :noidea:

How exactly will they 'back' Pakistan, when their institutions and government are controlled and dictated by the United States?

How exactly are they going to come to a parliamentary consensus with their Senators on war with Pakistan, when the building in which they sit in, is being built by India?

How exactly are they going to participate in joint operations with Pakistan against the United States, when their Army has been trained, funded and equipped by the U.S?

More important than the How, is the Why. Why will two sworn neighbors, two enemies side with each other when the one tries to do nothing but control the other in 'Strategic Depth' and the other harbours a legitimate, historical and ethnically-persuaded grief against the first.

I think this is a case of 'verbal dementia' on the part of the Pakistani newspaper. Garbage is not something Geo News is not known for, and this would certainly not be the first, or the last, of it.

And now when Prez. Karzai says that the Pakistani media misinterpreted the remarks followed by media around the world --- it is being called a "backtracking"

AFP: Karzai backtracks on controversial Pakistan remarks

KABUL — President Hamid Karzai sought to distance himself Monday from controversial remarks made in an interview in which he said Afghanistan would back Pakistan against the US if the two ever came to blows.

The presidential palace said Karzai's comments, made in an interview with private Pakistani television station Geo at the weekend, were "misinterpreted".
.
.
.
"It's not an issue because it's not going to happen," she said of the hypothetical war, quoting Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Karzai's office insisted the remarks were broadcast out of context.

"Pakistani media has misinterpreted it," said the president's deputy spokesman Seyamak Herawi.

"They only showed the first part when the president says Afghanistan will back Pakistan if there is a war."

Instead, the reference was to Afghanistan's willingness to house refugees from Pakistan in case of any conflict, in the way that millions of Afghans are given refuge across the border in Pakistan's northwestern frontier region.

"But in connection with the war on terrorism if there is a war on Pakistan, Afghanistan will not support that," he further stated.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have long been tested, with Karzai recently accusing his neighbour of playing a "double-game" with Afghan insurgents fighting the US-led war effort who hold bases across the border.

In the Geo interview, Karzai also sought to assuage Pakistani fears over US influence in the region following the drawdown of Western combat forces by the end of 2014 and restated his demands for a long term US partnership.

Afghanistan's conditions for a US deal include that American troops must not enter Afghan homes, implying that they should end controversial night raids in pursuit of Taliban targets that have caused many civilian casualties.

Well this is not surprising because paki media has the credibility equal to the terrorists themselves.

Ejaz,

This is the most important part in your news link. If anything knowing the paki psyche, this is an insult

Fact is, this is not the first time Karzai has said this. No matter how much we can force ourselves to feel different there exists what is called Islamic brotherhood. For example, we were never hostile to Iran but despite that Shah of Iran had sent warships to Pakistan during 71.

Or he was just plain lying to them. He is more Chankaya than everybody else, if you ask me.
Also, has India, the dithering and blubbering idiot, ever stood up to its allies? Tamils in Lanka, Tibetans,Nepali's, Balochi's, Afghans? So we want to Karzai to risk his neck, but we will not save his neck? Good for Karzai. Good for his family and Good for Afghans, they need him alive. We have no capacity to protect him or Afghanistan now, and it is also our requirement he is alive and Afghanistan buy's time.

Well, Karzai is definitely in it for good.
He was a Bush stooge, who came to power because he was close to the republicans in power at that time.
Now that Obama is in office and is threatening to pull US troops from Afghanistan, Karzai is in survival mode.
He is now trying kiss Paki ass and hope that when US troops leave, PA does not send forces dressed in salwar suits to decapitate Karzai.

As for India-Afghan relations - I hope India gets to build some airports and bases in Afghanistan and have some teeth there ...
