The question about a possible successor of Islam Karimov has been discussed from the beginning of 2000. The interest in his personality heightens or decays as far as rumors about the President's health appear. However, according to a number of reasons nowadays this problem is urgent and it will become more sensitive as far as the next President's elections in March 2015 are approaching. Factually, the struggle for power entered its final straightaway.
Recently a number of materials in Internet have been shown amazing unanimity over the question of the successor. As a rule, the following names appear there: Gulnara Karimova, Shavkat Mirziyayev and Rustam Azimov. Taking into account that a woman-ruler is not acceptable in Uzbekistan, and Shavkat Mirziyayev is very "crude", in our view the candidacy of Rustam Azimov in the President's race is more preferable. A number of facts stimulate it. Rustam Azimov is a son of Sadik Azimov, late academician and respected person in Uzbekistan. He is an intelligent, with intellectual merits, good in financial and economic policy. It can be indicated even by one fact, that over a period he has been succeeding in leading on the President about economic situation in Uzbekistan. The President thinks that economic situation of Uzbekistan is leading and prosperous.
Nowadays Azimov is holding the post of a deputy prime-minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan – he is the Minister of Finance, a head of the Complex of Economy and Foreign Economic Relations. The field of his responsibility is mobilization of foreign investments. In the West Rustam Azimov could make an image of a "reformer", committed to liberal values. In 2005 there were rumors that Karimov was ready to appoint Azimov to the post of the head of the government, but they were not confirmed. Nowadays the vice-premier minister is holding an utterly cautious position, and he is not showing his masterful ambitions.
Another main fact of the issue is that Rustam Azimov enjoys support of the USA. According to the materials of Pro-Politics, the Internet publication, 3 years ago Americans finally have staked on Rustam Azimov as Karimov's successor. It appeared in correspondence of Americans and Israeli that was published in Wikilicks. It is known that authorities of State Department of the USA are in regular contact with Azimov from 1990. In the period from 1991 to 1995 Rustam Azimov had been in USA for several times yearly. It is supposed that exactly in that period he came in sight of CIA. It is indicated by the heightened interest of heads of the World financial organizations to a young, unknown banker from Uzbekistan. He was received and had much kindness in very high circles of State Department of the USA. They could discern political ambitions and thirst for respectable life in Azimov. In the result of that care the 12th annual conference of EBRD was held in Uzbekistan in May, 2003. The sanction for holding this significant event in Uzbekistan was given by the State Department of the USA.
According to Pro-Politics, Rustam Azimov's family owes many-millioned property and keeps money in Swiss and English banks. He and his relatives have premises in London, New-York and in Los-Angeles. His elder daughter and a son-in-law present Uzbekistan in ADB in Manila. His younger daughter and a son-in-law (Ilkham Shakirov's son, Russian oligarch, ethnic Tajik) live in Russian capital and nowadays they are planning to move to Europe, they got offer to work in headquarters of EBRD.
According to the unknown sources, the support that Azimov is receiving now from Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State of the USA, indicates that most probably he will be the rightful owner of Uzbekistan in May, 2015. Such kind of political chess combinations of the USA are not new. It is enough to mention a control change in Georgia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and other countries.
Geopolitical interests of the USA make them intently look at the Central Asian region, where ambitions of Russia and China have already clashed. The "appointment" of "one of them" as a leader in Uzbekistan has strategic importance for the USA, because a location of the Republic and its resources are very important for the USA. They are in need of gold, uranium and stable area to represent their interests in region and to strengthen military components necessary for activeness against Afghanistan, China, Russia and Iran. Thereupon, the USA is trying to develop effective ways in order to delay or prevent integration processes in the post-Soviet region.
Islam Karimov is already playing his role in this "chess combination". However, according to the authoritarianism of the Uzbek regime and USA support arouse opponents occasion to blame the USA for double standards. The personality of Rustam Azimov as an Uzbek leader represents ideal candidacy, which the USA will "select" on the next President elections in Uzbekistan.

If Hillary is gone next year, will the prediction hold?
