They don't trot this stuff out as trophies? Weak excuse, the photos need to be seen to give the average person some amount of validation that he has been killed.
They don't owe Osama pic to anyone. The Americans should show the proof only if they want to, not because some people are refusing to believe it.
Those who don't believe it, may well continue so. I don't think it matters at all to the Americans.
OTOH showing the proof also, doesn't break all hell loose. Its upto US how they want to play now.

Have we not heard Pakistanis claim that Kasab was a RAW agent?
Yeah and the name they spoofed was - Amar Singh :D
That dolt Zahil Hamid should've committed suicide after his hoax was called off in broad daylight.

US told Manmohan to defer Afghan visit

The message was delivered on 29 April by Marc Grossman, US pointsman in Af-Pak

Iftikhar Gilani
New Delhi

India was told obliquely that something big was being planned when US Special Representative to Af-Pak Marc Grossman asked New Delhi on 29 April to defer a planned trip of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Kabul.

"We had a sort of a premonition about a US-led operation when we got this request," a highly placed official told Tehelka.com. US President Barack Obama signed the order to get Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden on the day Washington sent the request to New Delhi.

No specifics were given but the union government took the hint. Singh was to visit Kabul later this month in a visit that is expected to reaffirm India's commitment towards the development and security of Afghanistan.

The US request was delivered by Grossman on his maiden trip to New Delhi after taking over in February as the US Special Representative to Af-Pak. Grossman reportedly told top Indian interlocutors that delaying a high-level visit to Kabul 'would be appreciated' in Washington.

Sources said the Americans offered no tangible reason for this request.

India had twice told US about Osama's likely presence close to Islamabad

NEW DELHI: It now turns out that Indian agencies had twice warned their US counterparts about the presence of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden in an urbanized and heavily populated area not very far from Islamabad â€" once in mid-2007 and again in early 2008 when they specifically mentioned his likely presence in a cantonment area. On both occasions, the Americans either did not take the Indian intelligence seriously or perhaps were too busy working on their own inputs about Osamas whereabouts.

The first time Indian security agencies gave this information to the US authorities was in mid-2007, soon after a Taliban meeting in Peshawar which was attended by Osamas No.2 Ayman al-Zawahiri. According to the information gathered by Indian intelligence operatives, this meeting was also attended by top leaders of Haqqani network and at least two ISI officials.

Its being reported that Bin laden was unarmed when he was shot dead, this would indicate that he was not offering armed resistance at the time of the encounter,so how does this reconcile with white house spokes persons statement that the picture of dead bin laden were gruesome and hence unfit for public consumption. While it is probable that a single bullet to the head execution from close range from a high caliber weapon can result in a blood result, still a execution,as this seems to be the case, are rarely gruesome.

Its possible that the Americans precisely want to avoid the 'executed on the spot' debate by with holding the graphic evidence, until atleast some sanitized versions of the final moments of laden can be produced.Eventually if the graphic evidences are released it could be a sanitized version, even that might have to wait, unless there is the now all too familiar anonymous leak, until the charged political dust in middle east settles down

That is likely to happen. But this would be done via other means. Govt. would want to preserve its deniability or unawareness over it :)

Zawahiri betrayed Osama bin Laden: Saudi paper

DUBAI: Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden was betrayed by his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri who led US forces to his hideout as the two were involved in an intense power struggle, a Saudi newspaper has reported.

The two top al-Qaida men had differences and the courier who led US forces to bin Laden was working and had more loyalties for Zawahiri, al Watan newspaper reported quoting Arab sources.

"The Egyptian faction of al-Qaida led by Zawahiri was de facto running the militant group, after bin Laden was taken ill in 2004 and they were trying to take full control," the paper said.

The courier was a Pakistani national and not a Kuwaiti as the US suspected and the man knew he was being followed but disguised the fact.

The paper claimed it was Zawahiri's faction which had persuaded Osama to leave tribal areas close to Afghanistan-Pakistan border to take shelter instead in Abbottabad, where he was finally killed by US seals on Monday.

The plan to dispose off bin Laden had been hatched by a prominent al-Qaida commander Saif al Adel of Egyptian descent, who returned to Pakistan from Iran, last autumn.

Al Adel had reportedly escaped to Iran escorting Osama's other son and family members after 9/11.

Al-Adel is a member of the majlis al shura of al-Qaida and a member of its military committee, and he provided military and intelligence training to members of al-Qaida and Egyptian Islamic Jihad in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Sudan, and to anti-UN Somali tribes.

Dog was part of the Seal Team that took out Bin Laden

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/05/04...compound-raid/

While many Americans are anxious to meet and commend the team of Navy SEALs who raided the compound in Abottabad, Pakistan, and killed Usama bin Laden, one team member would be happy just to receive a doggie treat.

Among the commandos was a heroic canine – a bomb-sniffing dog who was attached to a team member as the SEALs were lowered from a Black Hawk helicopter into bin Laden's hideout, The Sun reports.

The four-legged soldier has not yet been identified, but some speculate the breed was either a Belgian Malinois or German shepherd, a breed used frequently in raids in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The dogs are well-protected in these dangerous situations, armed with ballistic body armor, protective gear to shield against bullets and shrapnel, and infrared night-sight cameras that provide crucial feedback to troops and warn of potential ambushes, The Sun reports.

Osama bin Laden's daughter witnessed his death, says Pakistani official

  • Osama bin Laden's 12-year-old daughter watched as her father was shot dead by American special forces, a senior Pakistani intelligence official has told the Guardian. The girl, who was found at the scene of the raid by Pakistani security services, is being cared for at a military hospital having been wounded in the attack. She has been questioned about the sequence of events during the raid on Sunday night. The official said Pakistani intelligence services, who are holding 11 other survivors of the deadly raid on Bin Laden's Pakistani hiding place, would not allow their interrogation by US officials."That would occur only if there was written assent from their country of origin. We are yet to receive any request to my knowledge, but given the [critical] statements coming out of Washington and the fact that [the raid] was not an operation we were involved in, we would not accept," he said.
At least 10 people were left alive at the end of the attack, which saw Bin Laden killed in an upstairs room of the three-storey house where he had been living. Hamza, one of the al-Qaida leader's sons, was killed. His body was removed with that of his father by the assault teams.
The survivors include eight children and two adults, both women. One is Bin Laden's fifth wife, a 29-year-old Yemeni, Amal Ahmed al-Sadah, who married the al-Qaida leader about 11 years ago in Afghanistan. The other is understood to be a Yemeni doctor in her 30s whose passport indicates that she arrived by legal means in the region between 2000 and 2006, when the document expired.
The Pakistani official, from the main intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI), said verification of the exact identity of the woman was continuing.
"We are not sure if she is a doctor, a nurse, a maid or what," he said.
The White House has so far not commented on the survivors or on reports that a second son of Bin Laden was captured during the raid.
Though mobile phones and computers seized in the compound are being examined by American specialists for any leads on forthcoming attacks or information on fugitives, the women and children in Pakistani custody are potential sources of valuable intelligence.
On Tuesday, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that "the family members of Osama bin Laden [are] all in safe hands ... in the best possible facilities," and that "as per policy" the relatives would be handed over to their countries of origin.
This may not be easy. One problem is their unclear legal status. The Saudi Arabian citizenship of the al-Qaida leader was withdrawn in 1994 after his violent criticism of the kingdom's royal family, leaving the nationality of his children unclear. Two young sons of Bin Laden are believed to be among the survivors held by the Pakistanis.
It is also far from certain that either Yemen or Saudi Arabia would be willing to accept the repatriation of Bin Laden's family members or their friends. Nor is their identification a simple task. Some of the children found at the compound may be those of the two brothers killed in the raid, and may have Pakistani nationality. The youngest child found at the compound was two.
Local authorities arrived at the scene of the raid as US special forces were leaving. It is believed that the attackers originally planned to evacuate all those in the compound but the breakdown of a helicopter meant there was no space to take them.
Instead, only the bodies of Bin Laden and his son Hamza, who was in his early 20s, were taken to the aircraft carrier the USS Carl Vinson and buried at sea. Survivors were left with their hands fastened with plastic handcuffs, a second Pakistani official said, adding that initial communication with the survivors had been difficult as the Pakistani police and military arriving at the scene did not speak Arabic.
Four bodies are understood to have been recovered by Pakistani officials from the compound, including those of the two brothers – who have been reported to be behind the construction and management of the house. One is believed to be the crucial courier, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, who inadvertently led the CIA to Bin Laden. A third body was that of one of the brother's wives. The other casualty is believed to be a guard who has yet to be identified or possibly a domestic servant.
Several of the survivors, including Bin Laden's wife, were injured in the 40-minute firefight that preceded the al-Qaida leader's death.
The White House have confirmed that Bin Laden's wife received a bullet wound in the calf during the assault.
Pakistani officials said that Bin Laden's daughter, whom various reports named as Safina, Safia or Ayesha , had been hit in the ankle in the moments before the American assault team reached the room where they found her father, and later passed out. The wound was possibly caused by fragments from a grenade thrown by the assault team as they attacked, one said.
The girl and her mother are believed to be at a high-security military hospital.
American press reports cited a US official as saying that Sadah had told Pakistani authorities Bin Laden had lived in the complex, at least part of the time, since it was built in 2005. Yesterday, other reports from Pakistan contradicted that statement, saying survivors had told officials they had arrived five or six months ago.
White House press secretary Jay Carney confirmed earlier this week that Sadah was "in the room with Bin Laden" when injured.
John Brennan, President Barack Obama's chief counter-terrorism adviser, had initially claimed Sadah was killed while "she was being used as a shield", but the White House later said that account was inaccurate.
US intelligence officials have also said Sadah, rather than Bin Laden's daughter, identified the al-Qaida leader's body.
"¢ This article was amended on 5 May 2011. Due to an editing error latter paragraphs referred to Bin Laden's wife as Fatah, in reference to her alternative name Amal Ahmed Abdul Fatah. For consistency this has been corrected.

Pakistan gives warning against further raids

Pakistan has warned the US and other countries against future raids on suspected fighters, saying they will face consequences from the military.

Salman Bashir, Pakistan's foreign minister, said "there shall no be any doubt that any repetition of such an act will have disastrous consequences", referring to the raid on Monday that killed Osama bin Laden, the head of al-Qaeda.

"We feel that that sort of misadventure or miscalculation would result in a terrible catastrophe," he said on Thursday in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital.

"There should be no doubt Pakistan has adequate capacity to ensure its own defence."

The US commando raid was conducted without the knowledge of the government, it has said, leading to anger over the violation of the country's sovereignty.

The foreign ministry said the raid was an "unauthorised unilateral action".

However, the CIA said it kept Pakistan out of the loop because it feared bin Laden would be tipped off, highlighting the depth of mistrust between the two supposed allies.

This is beyond ludicrious to not release those pictures or videos. So we are just supposed to take Uncle Sams words for it? The statement said "We cant release the pictures but you can be sure that no one will see Bin Laden ever walking again anywhere." What the hell was that even supposed to mean? I did not see him walk anywhere before either and nor did the US, its not like the Paparazzi posted regular pictures of him in page-3 walking to a an Christian Dior show room to buy a turban, so what an DUMB statement. We want the dam pictures and its our Democratic right to know.

A CT: Could India be part of this OP? There is news that a USN ship landed at Goa sometime back. Abbotabad is very near LOC and quick OP like this without the knowledge of Pak cannot be carried out from Pak bases. From Afghanistan the distance could be to much for insertion of Seals. Also, it explains the MMS love-invitations and cricket diplomacies...
