M40A1 - 106 mm Recoilless Gun
Description: This is a locally manufactured version of the standard US design. The entire system consists of the Gun M40A1, Mount M79, Spotting Rifle M8C, Elbow Telescope M92F, Telescope Mount M90 and Instrument Light M42. The Spotting Rifle is bought in from SANTA BARBARA of Spain and the sight assembly is manufactured in Pakistan by Mogul Industries. The gun may be mounted on and fired from a light vehicle or it can be easily dismounted and brought into action on its own carriage. 106 mm HEAT ammunition for this gun, to the American M344A1 standard, is produced in Pakistan by Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) at Wah Cantt.

Mini Tanks. India should look into these. But also easy Targets. Rather install these on BMPs

M50 Ontos

The Ontos, officially the Rifle, Multiple 106 mm, Self-propelled, M50, was an American light armored tracked anti-tank vehicle developed in the 1950s. It mounted six M40 106 mm recoilless rifles as its main armament, which could be fired in rapid succession against single targets to guarantee a kill.

Originally conceived as a fast tank killer, it was employed by US Marines who consistently reported excellent results when used for direct fire support against infantry during the Vietnam War. Its mobility and firepower were proven in numerous battles and operations. Produced in limited numbers and largely expended towards the end of the conflict, the Ontos was removed from service in 1969.

When one has guided A tank missiles, the RCLs become redundant.

Great black blast!

Position given away like a shot!

The problem will be of loader, RCL cannot be kept inside the vehicle and it have to reloaded from outside..

ATGMs are expensive. RCLs are cheaper to use so can be deployed in large numbers.

That maybe the case, but then RCLs are heavy, especially the 106.

It is not as accurate as a guided missile.

Hence, not of the same hit probability.

Larger emplacement if in defence.

Larger silhouette.

It is huge compared to the Missles and takes longer to set up.

And so many other factors!

Compare the cost and effectiveness with the Suitcase Anti tank missiles of the Egyptians during the Yom Kipper War - 9K11 Malyutka. Check the range. Missiles go longer.
