Indeed, but if these are same boilers used in Virrat, they were exploded back in September 1993 ?

Vikramaditya dont use the KVG-4 boilers as on other Russian Ship, Vikramaditya has KVG-3D boilers..

Babcock & Brown. Nearly all Indian made steam warships use these boilers. They are british.

I was onboard Viraat in 1993 when this incident happened. It was not the boiler but the fire in a compartment close to missile storage compartment. We were told to ready all aircraft for immidiate launch in case of an explosion on board at the middle of night. Please tell me when did a boiler burst on Viraat. I would like to be educated.

I am not aware of its specifics that is why i put a question mark, thanks for replying..
We had a fire onboard next to Seaeagle missile storage compartment. The engine room was flooded as a way to keep the temp of the bulkheads from rising which cud have ignited the missiles and resulted in explosion. Even the rest of the fleet ships of the escort group were called closer to Viraat to be ready to throw seawater on its sides to cool down the bulkheads shud the need arise. It was a very serious situation that night.

Sailing in or bottom of Indian ocean?? This junk shud be sold off as scrap now itself back to russians. The basic problem is with its boilers and not insulation bricks. These boilers shud be replaced by B&B boilers which have lower boiler pressure otherwise this ship will spend more time in repairs and refit and hardly anytime at sea.
The Russian tricked us into buying and spending loads of money on it? In the 90s i heard they gifted it to us but the whole retrofit costs more than a new carrier.

I am sure some Russian Admiral is laughing to the bank but what exactly makes a ship retire worthy? Is it the thickness and health of steal left on the hull or serviceability of its equipment's?

You can only hope it's the last delay this time, but based on what we have seen, I highly doubt it. I am not trolling, just this kind of thing happened to all Indian new weapon systems a lot of time, there must be a reason and the reason won't be fixed easily, so the chance for another delay will be high. Especially when you are dealing with Russia who has depleted all the technical base left from Soviet Union, a lot of technologies are out dated, they don't have money and young scentists to follow the latest development.

Latest development is INS Vikramaditya is 90% completed & most important part is her Aviation wing and related subjects are 100% operational which is why CV for, It will take less than 3 months for her to be 100% ready for Combat patrols..

Rest is irrelevant to this thread..

So the delivery has got pushed till last quater 2013: Russia and India approve work schedules for Vikramaditya | Russia & India Report

Work on the aircraft carrier will be completed at the Sevmash shipyard by the summer of 2013, followed by sea trials and the handover to India.

The contract to refurbish the aircraft-carrier formerly known as Admiral Gorshkov was signed with India in 2004. Source: ITAR-TASS

The much-delayed handover of the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier will take place by the end of October 2013 with New Delhi and Moscow approving the final tasks and schedules on the refurbishment.

"Russia and India have finalised and approved the list and work schedules to complete the refurbishment of the Vikramaditya aircraft carrier, which will be handed over to the Indian Navy," Rosoboronexport spokesperson Viacheslav Davidenko said. "Work is ongoing and is due to be finished by the end of 2013," he said, adding that the Vikramaditya would be put to sea once again for trials in the summer of 2013 after the boiler system is repaired.

"The Sevmash shipyard is currently repairing the boiler system; the Baltic Plant has started delivering the repaired equipment to the shipyard," a Russian defence industry source said. "Sevmash specialists are working on schedule to iron out all remaining problems with the boiler system. All the repair work on the aircraft carrier will be completed by the summer of 2013, when it will head for another round of sea trials," the source added. "The work is not technically challenging."

This Vzglyad newspaper earlier quoted the Indian Defence Minister A. K. Antony as saying that the Ministry set late 2013 as the final deadline for the handover of the Vikramaditya to the Indian Navy. "The delivery of the ship is already five years behind schedule, so the final deadline is the end of next year," he said.
President of the Unified Shipbuilding Corporation Andrei Dyachkov said in late October that Russia would hand over the Vikramaditya to India by the end of October 2013. Russia had earlier refused to pay India an estimated $115 million in compensation for the delay of delivery.

India was originally to get the Vikramaditya back in 2008, but delivery was then postponed until this year. It transpired in October that the customer would not be able to get the battleship before 2013 because of problems with the boiler system.
The shortcomings are to be eliminated at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvisnk by the summer of 2013 after which, sea trials will be held in the summer and the ship will to be handed over to the Indian Navy in the fourth quarter of 2013.
The contract to refurbish the aircraft-carrier formerly known as Admiral Gorshkov was signed with India in 2004. After profound modernisation, the Vikramaditya will become the Indian Navy's flagship
