* Talking of the Sukhois, Ajai Shukla has mentioned that two more Sukhoi squadrons are planned for the north-east: one at Hasimara and one at Bagdogra. This would bring the planned total to four. Currently there is one squadron based at Tezpur and one planned at Chabua. In the west the picture is somewhat unclear. There are Sukhoi squadrons based at Pune and Bareilly and planned at Halwara and Jodhpur. Around 130+ aircraft have been delivered so far to form six operational squadrons (2, 8, 20, 24, 30, and 31) and a seventh squadron is under raising. I know for sure that two of these squadrons are at Pune, one is at Bareilly, and one is at Tezpur. There might be a third squadron at Pune and a second squadron at Bareilly - as I said the picture is somewhat unclear in the west.

The image above, captured in December of 2009, depicts an Indian Su-30MKI (FLANKER-H) at HAL's Nasik plant. HAL produces India's Su-30MKIs at Nasik, following initial deliveries of aircraft built in Russia at IAPO, likely making this aircraft a newly built example. The Su-30MKI is the most advanced combat aircraft in the region, boasting outstanding range and combat persistance coupled with a modern avionics suite. India will eventually field nearly 300 Su-30MKIs, the bulk of which will have been assembled at Nasik. Other aircraft which can be seen at the Nasik facility include various MiG-21s, and another Su-30MKI further south.

I think they should work on reducing the RCS of the aircraft as well otherwise it could be aimed using BVR missiles but the AESA radar is also a good step forward.Regards!!!!

It's a bloody huge fighter, how does one reduce the RCS of such a thing. Although it is claimed that Su-35 BM has a much reduced RCS compared to Su-30. But short of structural redesign of our MKIs, what is the best way to reduce RCS?

Its much old discussion repeated again.

1) HAL is developing a carbon airframe like LCA and the Experiance got from LCA.
this would reduce both RCS and Weight of Su-30MKI and Increase the Payload, Performance and Range.

2) Russia is developing various kinds of stealth for Sukhoi
RAM coating, Plasma Stealth, modified Airframe...........

Russia's largest aircraft manufacturer United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is entering a new era of cooperation with India, with the launching of the development of Prospective Multi-Role Fighter (PMF). Embarked December 2010 by UAC, Irkut and HAL, it was inaugurated in a press conference held at Aero-India 2011. Mikhail Pogosyan, recently nominated the new general director of UAC presented his view of the evolving cooperation between the two countries.
"The 5th Generation fighter is a most important step for the future relationship of the two countries' said Pogosyan. The Russian T50 providing the basis for FGFA has already performed 40 flights and is undergoing ground testing, using three test articles, undergoing various static ground tests. Two additional T50 prototypes will join the test unit this year, accelerating the development progress. Pogosyan expects the program to complete the first phase next year. He assured that the Indian concern for sharing technology in the program was well covered in the contract, to the mutual satisfaction of both sides."We are moving into a new level of cooperation, based on good and sound basis proven with MiG-27 3rd generation and Su-30 fourth generation aircraft." Pogosyan added.
The Upgraded Mig-29

He addressed the long cooperation between Russian and Indian aerospace companies, specifically in local production and upgrading of aircraft, with past programs including MiG-27, and upgrades currently underway, of the MiG-29, the modernized plan, to be equipped with new cockpit, avionics and radar, made its first flight earlier in February.
"This aircraft will be capable of operating the latest air/air and air/ground the Indian Air Force is requiring" Pogosyan said. He told reporters the program will span over several years and include at least 60 aircraft.

Systems

A contender in the Indian Air Force Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) program, MiG-35 has not made it to Aero-India but has advanced through flight demonstration, in India and in Russia. It was modified to address specific Indian requirements, and Pogosyan said he is confident it is well positioned in effort to win the MMRCA race. "The important demonstrations are not at the airshow but are done with the customer, where we can demonstrate the real capabilities of our aircraft" he rebuffed critics questioning the MiG's absence from the show. "We demonstrated our capabilities and are awaiting the tender committee's response" he concluded.

MC-21 has confirmed 50 orders while still on the drawing board, with customers commited to buying 190 aircraft, testifying to the high credibility UAC and Irkut gained through the current Superjet program.

On the civil side, Pogosyan is optimistic about the progress of Superjet 100, which recently passed certification, and the MC-21 which is also showing great progress. "It is turning from virtual design to reality" Pogosyan said. In November 2010 the aircraft passed preliminary design review of the airframe, the first gas generator is being tested at Perm, and primary composite parts supplied. Designed to reduce operating cost of regional aircraft by 12-15 percent, MC-21 has confirmed 50 orders while still on the drawing board, with customers commited to buying 190 aircraft, testifying to the high credibility UAC and Irkut, gained through the current Superjet program. MC-21 is expected to be ready for first flight in 2014 and complete certification two years later. By April the team will freeze the design and decide on the final selection of suppliers, and Pogosyan encouraged Indian aerospace manufacturers and subcontractors to extend Indo-Russian cooperation into commercial aviation programs, "This is the right time to step in" Pogosyan concluded.

RCS Reducing Paints can be used,I Think they can also add higher number of composites in the wing and fuselage area in the next Tranche of Production Aircrafts.

Ok the suggestions are old but the Technology to be used is new you cannot think that massive RCS can massive Headache for the IAF aganist any Airforce SU30 MKI can be aimed directly by BVR Missiles with that massive RCS .Also it must not be forgetten that when we measure the range of any RADAR let it be 350 Km,250 Km it is measured on the basis of an object in the sky with an RCS of 5 and the range should be decreased by range 55-60 Km for reduction of just 1 RCS of the object that means fighters like EF Typhoon has RCS of 1 thus making it tough for Ground and Air-Borne RADARS to catch it Air-Borne RADAR need to go nearer for detecting and thus becoming visible themselves and thats what we DESTRUCTION and when every aircraft matters they are not there and still called ADF-Air Dominance fighter.

The RCS of 1m2 for EF etc are all with clean loads. Bring weapons into the mix and the RCS increases dramatically.

MKI relies heavily on EW for denying the use of the enemy's radar and a very powerful onboard radar to beat enemy electronic attacks. The new upgrades will ensure the MKI is hidden from enemy airborne radars by a Huge extent. You could say the MKI can sneak up on even the Erieye system to a close in BVR shot at 18-36Km without being detected.

People seriously underestimate the potential of a Twin engine Heavy Combat Aircraft which can spit out at least 12 KW of pure jamming power(maybe more :mad2: ). They assume RCS is the end all of all air combat scenario. The FGFA is set to increase this capability by 100% to 200%. Don't fall for any tricks from across the border which give the cold shoulder to the MKIs capabilities simply because the MKI's RCS is very big. It's Fvkin deadly against any aircraft including Raptor.

If I can shut down the Raptor's entire operational bandwidth of it's radar with pure random meaningless noise the Raptor will be as blind as a bat and that's the purpose of Electronic Warfare.

We will be using the Russian SAP 518 in the future for C, X and Ku bands while we will use SAP 14 for L and S band jamming in the near future. This means the entire usable spectrum from L band to Ku band can be jammed. That's between 1 Ghz to 18 Ghz.

NATO standard D to J bands can be jammed.

That's a good development. But they have yet to validate the Brahmos on the MKI, which is smaller than the Nirbhay. I think a lot of work is required to make it air launch capable, more than the Brahmos, for sure.
This effort will be worth it if the range stays the same on the airborne version- 800-1000km, planes can do deep strike missions without having to be deep in enemy territory.
