Narendra Modi a 'king among kings', says Anil Ambani at Vibrant Gujarat summit | NDTV.com

Gandhinagar: Narendra Modi received lavish praise today from India Inc at the biennial Vibrant Gujarat summit that began today, where the chief minister of Gujarat employs his marketing savvy to drive investment in his state.

Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, said "In Narendra Bhai, we have a leader with a grand vision." He announced a Rs. 500-crore university that will be set up in collaboration with the Gujarat government. (Special Feature: At Vibrant Gujarat Summit, India Inc praises Modi)

His younger brother, Anil - a headlining rapprochement was reached recently - acknowledged "respected elder brother Mukesh Bhai" in his opening remarks before going on to call Mr Modi "a king among kings." There was more. "Narendra Bhai has the Arjuna-like clarity of vision and purpose." He said the chief minister's skills have "acted as a huge magnet for investors and entrepreneurs from India and across the world in the past de

Mr Modi was re-elected for a third time as chief minister of Gujarat last month.

Initiated by Mr Modi in 2003 to attract investment after the violence and an earthquake in 2001, the event is attended by thousands of corporate officials who pledge billions in investment, although in reality only a fraction has seen the light of day. Of 12,40,000 crore rupees in investment proposed at the 2009 event, just 8.5 per cent had been spent as of November 2011, according to state government data.

Industry in Gujarat is helped by a long coastline and plenty of barren land that is easy to turn over to factory use.

Mr Modi has also been able to leverage the well-acknowledged business acumen of Gujaratis, a prosperous global diaspora and the support of billionaires such as Adani Group chief Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani who controls Reliance Industries, India's most valuable company.

"Under Modi's regime, there has been significant improvement in infrastructure growth, significant improvement in industrialisation, as well as agriculture," said Jahangir Aziz, senior Asia economist at JP Morgan. "But what has been overplayed is initial conditions were actually pretty decent in Gujarat."

Critics say that while Mr Modi has indeed encouraged investment and helped bring reliable electricity and law and order, double-digit growth has not been shared broadly enough. In the five years through March 2010, some states - including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka - did better at bringing down poverty levels.

Led by Mr Modi, his party the BJP won 115 of the state assembly's 182 seats last month. The scale of his victory has fuelled speculation that he could lead the BJP in 2014 against the Congress party, though he repeatedly asseverates his commitment to working in Gujarat. His prime ministerial ambitions are also threatened by allegations that he did not do enough to stop the communal riots of Gujarat in 2002, in which more than 1,000 Muslims were killed.

Mr Modi lured Tata Motors to the state in 2008 after the company's plans to build a factory for its low-cost Nano car were thwarted by farmers in West Bengal.

Ford Motor and Maruti Suzuki are also building plants in Gujarat - high profile investments that carry the added benefit of acting as marketing tools.

In the seven years through March 2011, Gujarat's economy grew an annual 10.08 per cent at constant prices, against 6.45 per cent in the eight years through March 2002 (Mr Modi took office in October 2001), which was still ahead of the all-India average of 6.16 per cent. A handful of states, including Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, clocked bigger gains over the same recent period.

By comparison, policy gridlock at the national level has contributed to a drop-off in corporate investment, putting India on track to record its slowest annual growth rate in a decade.

How much amount is 8.5% or 12,40,000 Crore? :troll:

So in 2 Years if that much amount is invested is achievement or failure? :hmm:

NDTV is trying to downplay this summit. Asking why Indian Inc is going gaga over this summit. Ranting why Modi is so been praised by Industrialists when there are so many big leaders in this country.

I thought If NDTV journalist can name few who are of Modi's stature, guess what, I found non. NDTV reporter shamelessly dragged S. W B Patel into the discussion when no one from BJP comparing him Modi.

I was impressed when Modi referred to a report that Gujarat has produced 72% jobs out of total created in India.

Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013: Shamengo, a company of innovators in France to set up its first centre in Ahmedabad

12 Jan, 2013, 0400 hrs IST, Vishal Dutta & Parag Dave, ET Bureau

The company will bring in a spectacles technology that would enable different members of a poor family use the same piece by moving the lens.
A single spectacles for the entire family, a kite to help ships save fuel, a green village and an initiative to organise rag-pickers. The sixth edition of Vibrant Gujarat summit that has laid emphasis on knowledge-based industries saw innovators queuing up to sign agreements to invest in the state. Shamengo, a company of innovators based in France, has decided to set up its first innovation centre in Asia at Ahmedabad.

The company will bring in a spectacles technology which uses two adjustable lens that enable different members of a poor family use the same piece by moving the lens. The same company will bring in another technology that uses big kites to pull ships and thus save on fuel by 30%. Shamingo's member and partner Ekta Bouderlique said her company will set up a centre at Ahmedabad's Science City.

"We will provide a platform to innovators. We will also exhibit our innovations and bring innovators from across the world," she said. Prashant Brahmbhatt, chairman of UKbased Threesigns Ltd, will facilitate a group of Scandinavian companies to bring their green technology and set up a green village. The technology will help village waste converted into electricity and liquid fuel.

Ahmedabad based Nirmal Foundation, which has been set up by IIM-A alumni Nirmal Kumar , has signed an MoU to provide traffic training to drivers of all commercial vehicles and first time licence seekers. In another MoU signed at the summit, some 450 rag-pickers enrolled as suppliers to NEPRA Resource Management, a city-based recycling start-up.

The company will use android-based applications for connecting its collection personals. This also helps them to locate the vehicle location, quantity, right pricing and timing of the completion of the work by the collection team and rag-pickers. EVAK Ry, a Finland-based company will bring in solid waste technology

Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013: Congress plays down industrialists' praise of Narendra Modi - The Economic Times
Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013: Congress plays down industrialists' praise of Narendra Modi

NEW DELHI: Congress today dismissed suggestions that encomiums from top industrialists to Narendra Modi at the "Vibrant Gujarat" meet showed that acceptability of the controversial Chief Minister is increasing at the national level.

"'Vibrant Gujarat' is an investment summit where all industrialists are invited to invest in the state. This sort of summit is held in other states also where Chief Ministers of respective state are praised", party spokesman Sandeep Dikshit told reporters.

Rejecting suggestions that it showed the possibility of wider acceptability of Modi, Dikshit remarked "if you read the statements of the industrialists in any state, almost every CM is glorified when an event like this takes place".

Modi got a resounding endorsement from Indian and foreign industry bodies for his "grand vision" for development with Anil Ambani putting him in the league of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.

Learn from history of Nazi Germany: Congress minister Manish Tewari

In a sharp reaction to the praise showered by industrialists on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at Vibrant Gujarat Summit, Congress today sought to draw a parallel with German corporate sector's fascination for Adolph Hitler in 1930s.

"In the decade of 30's, German corporate sector had similar fascination with a gentleman who was at the helm of affairs there. The implications for the world at large were disastrous," Union Minister and Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said.

"I think even corporate India would be well-served to draw lessons. Wise people do learn from the history and do draw appropriate lessons," Tewari told a press conference.

...

Meanwhile, Congress leader Praveen Davar today condemned industrialist Anil Ambani for putting Modi in the league of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel saying it was an "insult" to the memory of two nationalists and Gujarat icons.

"It is highly deplorable that Anil Ambani has compared Modi with Gandhiji and Sardar Patel. It is an insult to the memory of two nationalists and Gujarat icons, whose ideals have been totally erased from Gujarat.

"Ambani and other corporate kings should not sink to such low levels of sycophancy and immorality," Davar said.

In sort congis ki itni jali ki indian ocean bhi kam padega buzane keliye.......:taunt::wave:

What ever Hitler did to the world is different case but the truth is he made Germany industrial Giant, and best technological state. At that era, Hitler was hero among Germans ( except Jews, everyone know why).

So I bet here and everyone knows, Modi will not going to initiate world war, nor going to kill or harass muslims or non hindu..

So the moral of the story is, congis don't want progress, industries, good governance, development and don't want to give good life to Indian citizens. I hate voters of congress as much as I hate congis.

A pox be on their house - Congress is not interested in the welfare of the nation, only in holding onto power and stealing lakhs of crores of tax payers money. They are promoting a retard like Rahul Ghandy and perhaps his sister and her crook of a husband while deserving guys like NaMo are attacked through paid media.

Manish Tiwari is more of the sycophant as to the comparison to Hitler well the guy has killed far less than what British,French or other colonial powers did.

Modi is more like a Putin in this country and indeed we need someone of this stature because our national security seems to be at the same level of Russia of the late 1990s terrorism, cross border infiltration, smuggling of narcotics etc.

Once Putin came into power he did not stop it immediately but we can see how he decimated the Muslim Terrorist leadership :)
