Funny you should say that
Yogam and Desas only apply for individuals, but Dosham can apply for a family(maybe a country too I don't know)
I'm from an Astrologer family, one of my uncles predicted that this year is going to be more shittier than 2020(back last year itself, talk about spooky πŸ₯΄)
And 2023 is going to be an excellent year for some reason

DRDO develops COVID-19 antibody detection kit

Posted On: 21 MAY 2021 3:56PM by PIB Delhi

Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), a laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has developed an antibody detection-based kit 'DIPCOVAN', the DIPAS-VDx COVID-19 IgG Antibody Microwell ELISA for sero-surveillance. The DIPCOVAN kit can detect both spike as well as nucleocapsid (S&N) proteins of SARS-CoV-2 virus with a high sensitivity of 97 per cent and specificity of 99 per cent. The kit has been developed in association with Vanguard Diagnostics Pvt Ltd, a development and manufacturing diagnostics company based at New Delhi.

The DIPCOVAN kit was developed indigenously by the scientists, followed by extensive validation on more than 1,000 patient samples at various COVID designated hospitals in Delhi. Three batches of the product were validated during last one year. The antibody detection kit is approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in April 2021.

In May 2021, the product received the regulatory approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to manufacture for sale and distribution.

DIPCOVAN is intended for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies in human serum or plasma, targeting SARS-CoV-2 related antigens. It offers a significantly faster turn-around-time as it requires just 75 minutes to conduct the test without any cross reactivity with other diseases. The kit has a shelf life of 18 months.

Industry partner Vanguard Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd will commercially launch the product during the first week of June 2021. Readily available stock at the time of launch will be 100 kits (approx. 10,000 tests) with a production capacity of 500 kits/month after the launch. It is expected to be available at about Rs 75 per test.

The kit will be very useful for understanding COVID‐19 epidemiology and assessing an individual's previous SARS‐CoV‐2 exposure.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has appreciated the efforts of DRDO and the industry in developing the kit at the time of need.

Secretary Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy complimented the teams involved in developing the kit and said the initiative will help the people during the pandemic.

Funny thing is that there are more indians responding to this fellow in this tweet than muricans.
It's 10 AM on US east coast, it's not like muricans are sleeping.

========
Up to now, China has supplied 300 mln doses of vaccines to foreign countries, over 280 bln masks, 3.4 bln protective clothing & 4 bln test kits. The 80 mln doses of vaccine promised by the US are still just words, and its exports of other anti-epidemic materials are very few.

'Half of India isn't wearing a mask': Health ministry cites Covid-19 study

The Union health ministry said on Thursday that 50 per per cent of the country's population isn't wearing a mask, as it shared an update about Covid-19 situation in India. At the media briefing, health ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said that eight states have more than 1 lakh active cases of Covid-19, nine states have 50,000 to 1 lakh active cases and 19 states have less than 50,000 active cases of the infection.

The ministry's statement on facial masks is based on a survey carried out in 25 cities, which involved 2,000 respondents.

Only 14 per cent people wear the mask correctly, said the survey, which covers nose, mouth, chin and with a clip on the nose.

as long people got something or someone or some politics to blame their failures on..
and with the assurance from media its all cool!
and we want the covid situation to ease in India! Perfect!!

COVID-19 could become like common cold in future, study suggests

The novel coronavirus responsible for COVID-19 could cause no more than common cold-like coughs and sniffles within the next decade, according to a study.

The research, published in the journal Viruses, makes this likely prediction based on mathematical models that incorporate lessons learned from the current pandemic on how our body’s immunity changes over time.

β€œThis shows a possible future that has not yet been fully addressed,” said Fred Adler, a professor of mathematics and biological sciences at the University of Utah in the US.

β€œOver the next decade, the severity of COVID-19 may decrease as populations collectively develop immunity,” Adler said.

The study suggests that changes in the disease could be driven by adaptations of our immune response rather than by changes in the virus itself.

by that time we can expect china to come up with another fuckup

Covishield's first dose develops strong immunity than Covaxin's: ICMR head

The government recently accepted the Covid-19 Working Group's recommendation for extending the gap between the two doses of the Covishield vaccine from 6-8 weeks to 12-16 weeks. However, the dosage interval for Covaxin has been left unchanged and remains four weeks.

The decision to increase the interval between two doses of Covishield was taken because the first dose of Covishield can develop a strong immunity.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) head Dr Balram Bhargava, the immunity after the first dose of Covishield was found to be strong and that the three months gap will give the best results, a report in Times of India said.

Covishield is made from an adenovirus isolated from chimpanzee poop which has been genetically changed so that it doesn't grow in humans. The gap between two doses of Covishield was 6-8 weeks before the recent increase. According to studies, initially, the interval between two doses of Covishield was 4-6 weeks but then as more data became available and secondary analysis showed increasing the dosage interval to 4-8 weeks can have some advantage. The Covid-19 Working Group based on the available real-life evidence suggested that the interval should be extended to 12-16 weeks.

Thanks for confusing people again. and the media for coming up with on the spot data and stories on covid vaccine efficiency.

As a simple Logic and sense
IMO, its better to go for the vaccine with the higher supply than get caught unguarded waiting for the second dose from a manufacturer having vaccine production not upto the numbers. (yet)

Keep your immunity high with good food, exercise and hygiene and following covid protocols Plus staying away from covidiots and negative new media that eats away your happiness. Engage in activities that keep the mind calm and stay away from arguments on SM and 'subject specialists' in comment section on SM(very important..very important)

Always monitor and control blood sugar level: Advice for Diabetes Patients

Steroids a strict no-no for Mild COVID-19 patients: Director, AIIMS

Be Vigilant, Don’t Miss even Minor Symptoms, Stay Safe from Mucormycosis

Mucormycosis, also known as black fungus infection, is not a new disease.
Such infections were reported even before the pandemic. Its incidence however was very low. Now, due to COVID-19, this rare but fatal fungal infection is being reported in large numbers. Coronavirus Disease Associated Mucormycosis (CAM) is being seen in patients who are either recovering or have recovered from COVID-19. Let us build on our earlier post on the topic , to learn what we can do to protect ourselves and our dear and near ones.

Director AIIMS, Dr. Randeep Guleria explained the increased incidence during a press conference last week. β€œEarlier, mucormycosis was commonly spotted in people suffering from diabetes mellitus, a condition where one’s blood sugar (glucose) levels are abnormally high. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, those who have had a transplant, and people taking immunosuppressants (medications that weaken the immune system) also used to get it. But now due to COVID-19 and its treatment, an increase in number of cases is being witnessed. There are more than 20 cases of the fungal infection in AIIMS itself, all of whom are COVID positive. Many states have reported 400 to 500 cases, all among COVID patients.”

Why and how it affects COVID-19 patients during or post recovery?

Medicines used in treating COVID-19 tend to bring down the count of lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are one of the three types of white blood cells whose job is to defend our body against disease-causing pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. The reduced count of lymphocytes leads to a medical condition called lymphopenia, making way for opportunistic fungal infection in COVID-19 patients.

There is a higher chance of occurrence of mucormycosis in patients whose immune system is not functioning well, and since COVID-19 treatment tends to suppress the working of the immune system, it places such patients at a higher risk of contracting the black fungus infection.

Disease and Symptoms:

Mucormycosis can be categorized depending on which organ of the human body it attacks. Signs and symptoms of the infection also vary depending on the affected body part.

  • Rhino orbital cerebral Mucormycosis: Infection occurs when fungal spores are inhaled. It infects the nose, orbit of eye / eye socket, oral cavity and can even spread to the brain. Symptoms include headache, nasal congestion, nasal discharge (green colour), pain in sinus, bleeding nose, swelling on face, lack of sensation on face and skin discoloration.
  • Pulmonary Mucormycosis: When spores are breathed in and reach the respiratory system, it affects the lungs. Symptoms are fever, chest pain, cough and coughing of blood.

The fungus can also infect gastrointestinal tract, skin, and other organs but the most common form is Rhino cerebral Mucormycosis.

Preventive measures to be taken by COVID-19 patients:

People with following medical conditions should be more careful, they should constantly monitor their health and also take the following preventive measures.

Diabetic Patient (uncontrolled diabetes) + Steroid usage + COVID Positive – all three combined together places one under high risk of getting this infection. Hence diabetic patients should always monitor and control their blood sugar level.

Misuse of steroids is also a cause of concern that directly affects one’s immune system.

COVID Positive patients with mild form of the infection should strictly avoid taking steroids. On the one hand, steroids are of no use in treatment of mild COVID cases. On the other hand, taking steroids increases the risk of secondary infections like Mucormycosis. It leads to a high risk of fungal infection even after recovery from COVID-19. Hence if a COVID-infected person’s oxygen saturation level is normal, and he/she is categorized as clinically mild, steroids should be completely avoided.

Those who are taking steroids should also keep checking their blood sugar levels. In most cases, one who is not diabetic finds that after taking steroids, the blood sugar level shoots up to 300 to 400. Hence, it is essential to continuously monitor one’s sugar level.

β€œHigh dosage of steroids being taken by COVID-19 patients is of no use. Mild to moderate doses are good enough. As per the data, steroids should be given only for 5 to 10 days (maximum). Moreover, steroids increase the blood sugar level which can then become hard to control.” This can in turn increase the chance of fungal infection, said Prof. Guleria.

Wearing masks is compulsory. Fungal spores found in air can easily enter the body through the nose. This makes masking up doubly important, in preventing infection. People who work at or visit construction sites should specifically pay attention to this.

Where are these fungi found?

Mucormycosis is caused by a group of molds called mucormycetes. It is naturally found in air, water and even food. It enters the body through fungal spores from the air or can also occur on skin after a cut, burn, or skin injury.

An early detection of this infection can prevent potential loss of vision or brain infection in future.

Other Preventive measures to be followed:

  1. Cleaning and replacement of humidifiers (for those using Oxygen Concentrators)
  2. Sterile normal saline should be used in the humidifier bottle and changed daily
  3. Masks should be disinfected daily

Don’t miss even minor symptoms:

Pain and redness around eyes and nose, fever (usually mild), epistaxis (bleeding from the nose), nasal or sinus congestion, headache, cough, shortness of breath, vomiting of blood, altered mental status and partial loss of vision.

Responsibilities of Doctors and other Health Care Workers

While discharging COVID-19 patients, advise about early symptoms or signs of Mucormycosis; such as facial pain, blockage, excessive discharge, loosening of teeth, chest pain and respiratory insufficiency.

Yes..but for immunity compromised persons..inhaling such can create complications...especially the covid recovered patients or covid patients.
Meaning in todays world if your immunity is compromised..you are fuggd by the tiniest of the creatures.

Looks like average daily vaccination won't exceed 15 lakh until August..
Daily vaccine supplied is still around 25 lakhs, but vaccine administered has gone down to 12-14 Lakhs.
In last 9 days (11th May to 20th May), doses stored by states have increased from 90 Lakhs to 2 cr. So, states are putting more than 12 lakh doses daily in warehouses and crying vaccine shortage!

I also think that part of the reason is, after the change in policy to have states and private hospitals to make 50 percent of procurement post May 1.. the even distribution of vaccines across India has been disrupted, with early moving states placing their orders and even receiving the shots already, while laggard states just cribbing.. Also, I guess people in many places, people are afraid to go out for vaccines right now..
Also, part of the reason is vaccine scarcity.. as vaccine supply is not abundant enough, in places where demand is very high.. states should continuously monitor supply and demand and rejig vaccine quotas to various districts dynamically, as demand varies.. rather than have fixed quotas..
