More than 20 crore vaccine doses provided to States/UTs Free of Cost by Govt. of India, so far

More than 1.84 crore doses still available with States/UTs to be administered

Nearly 51 lakh doses in addition will be received by States/UTs in next 3 days

Posted On: 16 MAY 2021 11:54AM by PIB Delhi

Vaccination forms an integral component of the comprehensive strategy of Government of India of containment and management of the pandemic (including Test, Track, Treat and COVID Appropriate Behaviour). Government of India has been supporting the nationwide vaccination drive by providing COVID Vaccines free of cost to the States and UTs, in addition to several efforts to ramp up its production and supply.

Implementation of the Liberalized and Accelerated Phase 3 Strategy of Covid-19 Vaccination has started from 1st May 2021. Under the Strategy, in every month 50% of the total Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) cleared vaccine doses of any manufacturer would be procured by Govt. of India. It would continue to make these doses available to the State Govts totally free of cost as was being dome earlier.

Government of India has so far provided more than 20 crore vaccine doses (20,28,09,250) to States/UTs, Free of Cost. Of this, the total consumption, calculated based on average up to 14th May 2021, including wastages is 18,43,67,772 doses (as per data available at 7 PM yesterday).

More than 1.84 crore COVID Vaccine doses (1,84,41,478) are still available with the States/UTs to be administered. States with negative balance are showing more consumption (including wastage) than vaccine supplied as they have not reconciled the vaccine they have supplied to Armed Forces.

Furthermore, nearly 51 lakh (50,95,640) vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.

Absolute treat to read the following article by Suraj in Swarajyamag. This shows how pre ordering billions of doses by the West has not resulted in much success. There is a difference between vaccine R&D money seeded by the Western Governments and providing upfront payment for bulk orders. The article focuses on the latter part.

stupid article which is factually incorrect as well. the USA has an excess supply of vaccines now and they are desperately trying to force the non-vax group to come forward. you dont put your first measly orders in Jan, you definitely bring in other manufacturers on a war footing rather than just leave it to two private companies etc. etc. of course there will always be supporters of any stupidity of this govt (up until this thing hits home and a loved one perishes)

A good article with interesting data.. The article proves that large orders in itself are not useful.. and production capacity at home is what matters more.. because inspite of large orders without production capacity at home, you would have to wait on USA or EU benevolence to remove export restrictions inspite of large orders...
That said, large orders and upfront money payments do make a difference.. GOI first order of 11 cr doses to SII was on January 11, 5 days before the Indian vaccine program rolled out. GOI released advanced payments of 3000 cr to SII only last month to expand capacity.. GOI could have seeded money onto SII to expand capacity in July 2020 itself, when Oxford vaccine phase 2 results were shown to be promising..

Not wait until April , last month.

Also Gujarat is following the Russia model, of declaring covid deaths with Co morbidity, as non covid death, while ICMR and most western countries, follow the rule that any death of a covid positive patient be treated as a covid death
Do you have anything to back up your claim?
My personal experience have been opposite. I have shared my experience in past where hospitals have declared non-covid patients as covid deaths. I can arrange meeting with those people.

Also, only 10th pass journalist can compare this year march april data to last year data knowing fully well that whole of April was complete lockdown. He could have gone for 2019, but it does not suit the agenda. Do not fall for these vultures and give them space here just because you hate for northies.

By the way the data they used for (March, April, May 2020) was also wrong.

Some good news:-

1621170990259.png

Peer-review publication, Clinical Infectious Diseases, has noted that Covaxin demonstrates protection against the new Covid-19 variants. Bharat Biotech's Covaxin retained neutralising activity against emerging variants of coronavirus, as per a new study.

A study published by Clinical Infectious Diseases found that vaccination with Covaxin produced neutralising titres against all key emerging variants tested including B.1.617 and B.1.1.7, first identified in India and the UK, respectively.

A modest reduction in neutralisation by a factor of 1.95 was observed against the B.1.617 variant compared to the vaccine variant (D614G).

Despite this reduction, neutralising titre levels with B.1.617 remain above levels expected to be protective.
No difference in neutralisation between B.1.1.7 first identified in the UK and vaccine strain was observed. The study was conducted in collaboration with National Institute of Virology and Indian Council of Medical Research.

Earlier, a study by the ICMR reported that Covaxin is effective against multiple variants of the Covid-causing SARS-CoV-2 virus, including the double mutant strain found in India and other countries. The Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) had successfully isolated and cultured multiple variants of concern of SARS-CoV-2 virus including the variants originating from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil.

The NIV has demonstrated the neutralization potential of the Covaxin against the variants from Brazil and the UK in a study published in the Journal of Travel Medicine in March.
