The side effect of such is the pressure on the NHS because of the sheer fear and the fear mongering by the paid media.
if people could just let it course through..then we will all be fine..but if the people rush even with mild symptoms and create bottleneck thats FUBAR .

100% agree but one thing here is that herd immunity was there in immunology studies for quite sometime but these countries just took it on face value without making any significant efforts in the early stages hence this mess.Yes herd immunity is the only logical and inevitable solution here but that doesn't mean you leave your population just like that. Maximum number of susceptible people must be taken out of the clutches this outbreak.

I think this crisis will lead to nationalized healthcare system in the US. I hope God will give knowledge and wisdom to Trump to appreciate the importance of a nationalized healthcare system.

Italy's case is an outlier. When you see how the 90% dead are 80 years and above and most of these oldies who were near to their death bed have 2 to 3 pre existing medical issues which would have claimed their life anytime. Corona virus just accelerated that by a slight margin. Italy is a cold country on the same latitude as Wuhan and Iran.

I am not too worried about fatalities in India. Mortality Rate of India would be near Germany.

According to Prof Walter Ricciardi, scientific adviser to Italy’s minister of health, the country’s mortality rate is far higher due to demographics - the nation has the second oldest population worldwide - and the manner in which hospitals record deaths.

The age of our patients in hospitals is substantially older - the median is 67, while in China it was 46,” Prof Ricciardi says. “So essentially the age distribution of our patients is squeezed to an older age and this is substantial in increasing the lethality.”

A study in JAMA this week found that almost 40 per cent of infections and 87 per cent of deaths in the country have been in patients over 70 years old.

And according to modelling the majority of this age group are likely to need critical hospital care - including 80 per cent of 80-somethings - putting immense pressure on the health system.

But Prof Ricciardi added that Italy’s death rate may also appear high because of how doctors record fatalities.

“The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus.

On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three,” he says.

Britain is a dark gloomy region where sunshine is scarce. Lack of sunshine induces depression among people. To fight this depression, British people like to hang out with each other in pubs which are major avenues for people to people interaction. If you shut down pubs, it will throw the entire region in despair.
