NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday said that over two billion doses of Covid vaccines will be available in India between August and December this year which will be sufficient to vaccinate the entire population.
The assurance from the Centre comes as several states are grappling with a shortage of vaccines, which has slowed down the nationwide immunisation programme.
In a media briefing, Niti Aayog member VK Paul said that more Covid vaccines will be available in the near future besides the ones that are already in use.

"Two billion doses (216 crore) will be made in the country in five months for India and for people of India. Vaccine will be available for all as we move forward," Paul said.
He added that by the first quarter of the next year, this number is likely to be three billion.
Paul estimated that between August and December, nearly 75 crore doses of Covishield and 55 core doses of Covaxin will be made available.

India’s Cumulative Vaccination Coverage steadily nearing the 18 Cr mark



The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 17,91,77,029 as per the 8 pm provisional report today.


4,37,192 beneficiaries of the age group 18-44 years received their first dose of COVID vaccine today and cumulatively 39,14,688 across 32 States/UTs since the start of Phase-3 of the vaccination drive. Table below shows the cumulative vaccine doses administered to 18-44 years age group till now.

Reports of delay in licensing for Covaxin ''factually incorrect'': Govt

There have been reports in a section of the media followed by some uninformed tweets alleging delay in licensing for Covaxin and delayed approval for technology transfer for manufacturing Covaxin vaccine in the country.

"These news reports and the content mentioned in the tweet are completely baseless and factually incorrect," the ministry said in its statement.

Government of India, in its new liberalised strategy, has made specific provisions that vaccines which have been developed and are being manufactured in foreign countries and which have been granted emergency use authorization by National Regulators of United States, European Medicine Agency (EU), United kingdom, Japan or which are listed in WHO (Emergency Use Listing), will be granted emergency use approval in India, the statement said.

It also provides for post-approval parallel bridging clinical trial in place of conduct of prior local clinical trial as per the provisions prescribed under Second Schedule of the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules 2019.

"This is a radical departure from past allowing rapid and simplified authorisation of foreign vaccines by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI)," the ministry stated.

This will ease and facilitate the import of COVID-19 vaccines and ensure increased availability of COVID-19 vaccines in India.

This is not good. If Wuhan Virus is a bioweapon, the Chinese could be using their vaccines as another weapon by creating antibody dependent enhancement mutations of the virus, which could usher in newer, deadlier strains. They could have engineered the Wuhan Virus and the vaccines to be like that before they even released them. We are already seeing something weird in Seychelles which is using Chinese vaccines on a massive scale. If this ends up creating a new Wuhan Virus variant that China has planned, it will spread not just in Punjab but in all of India. This could end up being disastrous.

Once WHO approves Sinopharm, Punjab will most likely receive Sinopharm.. Also, it is about saving lives.. If India can buy 25000 oxygen concentrators from China, why not chinese vaccines..?
