The best and worst vaccines available at this time.

The Chinese have the worst vaccine with a 50% efficacy rate in five or six candidate data published after phase 1 to phase 3 trials. Yet they claim they almost wiped out the virus after they invented it in Wuhan's laboratory (not likely to be true). To date, the best vaccine with 95% efficacy rates is an American Pfizer vaccine followed by an American Moderna vaccine with 90-92% efficacy rates. If anyone was successful in eradicating the Wuhan virus, it would be the United States. But for the rest of the world to use the U.S. vaccine is to create a super cool refrigeration unit to keep it frozen at -75C until ready to use. Only the US has the money to install super cold refrigerators in hospital and clinics. Europe may be the next best candidate, which is using both American vaccines.

The interesting part about using or licensing producing it in India is that Pfizer wants interested countries like India, Brazil and others to hypothecate their military assets to them as collateral. No country is willing to do that, so the use of this vaccine will be in the U.S., in Europe, and to some extent in Canada.

The Indian vaccine a license produced in the Serum Institute in Poona is the AstraZeneca vaccine developed in the United Kingdom is a reasonably good vaccine with an efficiency rate of 80%. It does not require super cool refrigeration. It's good for middle-income and poor countries. That is where it is used.

The Indian locally developed vaccine at Hyderabad and given Covaxin as a commercial name is better than the AstraZeneca vaccine, which even the US, famous or infamous Dr. Fauci has given Covaxin a huge endorsement recently. Following complete approval, India will use this AstraZeneca (Covesheild) and Covaxin intensively both in India and exported. Right now these have been granted emergency use approvals.

The Russian vaccine now will be used in India during the vaccine shortage is a great candidate with an efficacy rate of 90%. However, it is not made in India.

Other major pharmaceutical companies are working on a high and the achievable rate of effectiveness. They're probably going to be coming out soon.

They were in a transitioning phase not complete yet, because making such a massive economic move takes time. But the problem right now is a massive immediate need which is still dependent on Chinese APIs, otherwise the price increases will be too great for common people in their time of need. Hopefully Indian government can temporarily source drug supplies or APIs from elsewhere to counter the increasing drug prices.

No financial institution will give out 1000-2000 crore without collateral and guarantees.

4300 crore given by GOI was without bank guarantee.

Poonawala has not completed delivery of earlier order of 10 crore vaccines, 1.3 crore pending.
New Order given for 11 without earlier order being fulfilled. his current production capacity is 5 crore per month right now.

Bharat Biotech: Earlier order of 2 crores, of which .8 crore delivered. New Order 5 crores. They finished their trials in Mid Mar.

Current expiry date is 3 months for both vaccines.

Media reports alleging that Centre has not placed any fresh order for COVID19 Vaccines are Incorrect and not Based on Facts

There have been some media reports alleging that the Centre has not placed any fresh order for COVID19 vaccines. The news reports suggest that the last order placed with the two vaccine makers (100 million doses with SII and 20 million doses with Bharat Biotech) was in March 2021.

These media reports are completely incorrect, and are not based on facts.

It is clarified that 100% advance of Rs. 1732.50 cr (after TDS Rs. 1699.50 cr) was released to Serum Institute of India (SII) on 28.04.2021 for 11 crore doses of Covishield vaccine during May, June and July, and was received by them on 28.04.2021.As on date, against the last order of 10 crore doses for supplies of Covishield vaccine, 8.744 crore doses have been delivered till 03.05.2021.

Additionally, 100% advance of Rs. 787.50 cr (after TDS Rs. 772.50 cr) was released on 28.04.2021 to Bharat Biotech India Ltd (BBIL) for 05 crore Covaxin doses during May, June and July, and was received by them on 28.04.2021. As on date against the last order of 02 crore doses for supplies of Covaxin vaccine, 0.8813 crore doses have been delivered till 03.05.2021.

Hence to say that fresh orders have not been placed by Government of India is not correct.

As of 2nd May 2021, Govt. of India has provided more 16.54 crore vaccine doses to States/UTs Free of Cost. More than 78 lakh doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered. More than 56 Lakh doses in addition will be received by the States/UTs in the next 3 days.

Under the Liberalised Pricing & Accelerated National COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy, Govt of India would continue to procure its share of 50% of the monthly Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) cleared vaccines & would continue to make it available to the State Govts totally free of cost as was being done earlier.

Even as Karnataka grapples with the second wave of Covid-19, an analysis by the Technical Advisory Committee said the state is likely to face the third wave of infections in October-November 2021.

Karnataka’s experience, and that of European countries, shows that the third wave will be definitely there and preparation to tackle it must be taken seriously, say experts. Covid-appropriate behaviour like mask usage, maintaining physical distance, avoiding crowds and hand hygiene, apart from vaccination, must be given utmost priority, they say.

According to Dr Manjunath, all precautionary measures, restrictions on gatherings, religious events, political rallies, local body elections and fairs must be continued till December 2021. “The severity will be more in unvaccinated persons. The need is to speed up vaccination,” he said.

He agreed with Dr Sudarshan that children would be more vulnerable. “There are trials of Pfizer vaccines on children. By then, we may get vaccines for children too,” he said.

According to Dr KR Bharath Kumar Reddy, paediatric pulmonologist and director, Shishuka Children’s Specialty Hospital, children would be vulnerable because of lack of vaccination. “However, the virus transmission chain may break as adults at home would be vaccinated and they may not spread to kids. Currently, in most cases, adults are transmitting to children who are not going to schools,” Dr Reddy said.
Unless those in the 18-44 years category are vaccinated by October, a high number of cases will be seen among them too, experts said.
