Modi needs to start planning his Covid redemption, for getting his political mojo back.. And he can start it by subsidizing vaccines procured by state governments so that they cost the same as central government rates.. i.e. provide central subsidies of Rs 150 per dose for covishield and Rs: 250 per dose for covaxin, so that they cost Rs; 150 each for the state governments.. This way, the vaccine manufacturers also get more money in hand to reinvest.. It would be much better than forcing them to cut prices..

Get Import oxygen cyljnders and cryogenic tankers.. create working groups.. like the ones created for ppe, ventilator production last year, to ramp up production of cylinders, PSA Plants and cryogenic tanks.. Come more often on TV to talk about measures GOI is taking and update on progress regularly.. and so on..

I would make it free for everyone but those who can afford should pay, its not really a big amount considering people spend literally thousands on booze and restaurants and what not. My suspicion is govt may have doubts on efficacy of vaccination to emerging strains....imagine you go through it super fast and new strains show up?

Even against mutant strains these vaccines prevent hospitalization to a great extent.. That directly translates to tens of thousands of lives saved.. by making hospital and oxygen capacity available to the needy..

Just no evidence yet, on the other side vaccine might end up creating super strains from those that get infected after getting vaccinated? Just not enough time to test any hypothesis but thats the best anyone can do now....people really need to follow basic hygiene and civic sense to minimize the spread. Hope it stabilizes....

The vaccines do work on variants.. although with reduced efficacy.. Astrazeneca has been shown to work against the UK variant, with its efficacy a little reduced.. but all vaccines have a substantial reduction in efficacy against the brazilian variant. Also, all vaccines like Pfizer, Astrazeneca, Moderna have more than 99 percent efficacy in preventing severe disease against the original strain.. As the vaccines attack based on multiple points of the virus genome, loss of a few points of attack due to mutations, would still help reduce fatility..

Let's hope so, but lot of things are not peer reviewed and are approved or accepted because of the emergency sort of situations and the current culture to shutdown the academic and other professional critics....these things take few years in normal time to study various correlations. If vaccine works so well, then they should not ban flights and so on as long as people are vaccinated to get on to flights. Lot of unknowns but its the best for now I guess...

It's not $6000+, it's around $1000-1800, but even accounting for import duty, local logistics and local taxes, you are right. Someone is making a lot of money.
