Guys, what's a reliable site / agency to donate money for the COVID relief. I used to send via PM Cares but in the last couple of weeks, 2 of my transactions failed with no refund so far. Site seems to be really unstable.
Try one of these. Some look genuine. They are updating their work also.

Or, just send money to your family in India and ask them to distribute it to those whose daily livelihood is effected. There are so many who are effected economically in the pandemic.

Scientists working on SUTRA model for charting trajectory of COVID-19

Posted On: 02 MAY 2021 12:05PM by PIB Delhi

We, the scientists working on the SUTRA model for charting the trajectory of COVID-19, would like to clearly point out some facts related to predictions of our mathematical model, especially since some of these have been misunderstood and misquoted. Recent reports in some media seem to suggest that scientists working on the SUTRA model cautioned in March about the second wave but attention was not paid to it. This is incorrect.
A meeting was called on 2nd April to seek our inputs by one of the very senior officers of the government coordinating the national pandemic response. We indicated that the SUTRA model predicted the second wave to peak by the third week of April and to stay most likely around 1 lakh daily cases. Clearly the model predictions in this instance were incorrect because of the reasons below.
We have been working on a mathematical model to predict the spread of the virus. It is important to note that a mathematical model can only predict future with some certainty so long as virus dynamics and its transmissibility don’t change substantially over time. Mathematical models can also provide a mechanism to predicting alternate scenarios corresponding to various policy decisions such as non-pharmaceutical interventions.
In the case of COVID-19, it is clear that the nature of the virus has been changing very rapidly. In such a context, any prediction for COVID-19 must be continually readjusted, sometimes almost daily.
We are working closely with the government and our inputs have always been received positively. While we could not predict the exact nature of the second wave earlier, we continue our efforts to better estimate its future trajectory.

Govt. of India has so far provided more 16.54 crore vaccine doses to States/UTs Free of Cost
Posted On: 02 MAY 2021 11:38AM by PIB Delhi

Government of India is leading the fight against the COVID19 pandemic in collaboration with the States and UT through a “Whole of Government” approach. Vaccination forms an integral component of the five point strategy of Government of India of containment and management of the pandemic (including Test, Track, Treat and COVID Appropriate Behaviour).

Implementation of the Liberalised and Accelerated Phase 3 Strategy of Covid-19 Vaccination has started from 1stMay 2021. Registration for the new eligible population groups has commenced since 28th April. Potential beneficiaries can either register directly on CoWIN portal (cowin.gov.in) or through the AarogyaSetu app.

Government of India has so far provided nearly 16.54 crore vaccine doses (16,54,93,410) to States/UTs Free of Cost. Of this, the total consumption including wastages is15,76,32,631 doses (as per data available at 8 am today).

More than 78 lakh COVID Vaccine doses (78,60,779) are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.

Furthermore, more than 56 lakh (56,20,670) vaccine doses will be received in addition by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.

Complete Lockdown in India Crucial to Beat New COVID Surge, Suggests AIIMS Chief Randeep Guleria

Then there should be a mechanism to move patients and others to hospital as and when in need!
There should be a mechamism to feed the bystanders in hospital and those patients in hospital.that include pvt hospitals..
a complete lockdown...well..it should only be implemented after taking into accounts all the current factors and the number of patients getting moved around.

IMO..a lockdown now will be disaster for people.

Don't go by his words. Guleria is acting like lone wolf since last year. When Govt is announcing something he will run to media and announce different things himself.

Don't know people like him are head of different govt institutions. IMA chief is another such person.

May be its another script in play.
They want a complete lockdown..
A complete lockdown will put the ambule patients in a tight spot..
Also the covid patients at home wont get vehicles, ambulances /medicines etc and then situation will go from current hold to a worse situation.
plus..the food and other materials for people who are taking care of patients as hotels will shut down cuz of lack of workers ad staff. Even on saturdays and sunday lockdown in some states..bystanders find it difficult to get food etc.
This complete lockdown nationwide will seriously enrage the population as it will put a lot of patients stranded at home or on the road .a big trigger for civil unrest and a major photo opportunity for vulture media who feed on the dead.
So someone wanted a worst case scenario and fan the death count as now situation is sort of stabilizing now with more resources and infra put in place.

AIIMS guy is sold out or far from reality or both! eh?

Before slamming India’s handling of Covid, let’s look at facts and not Twitter noise
Now, let us look at the assertion that the second severe wave in India was predictable and deliberate callousness was shown. It is far from black and white. With India’s economy battered, the government had to do a balancing act between building business confidence and putting restrictions. Plus unlike the US, Europe, and many other nations, India was not hit by a second wave in November to December 2020, and some policy makers relied perhaps too much on their intuition that even if there was a second wave, it would be a small one.

..........

. The Nature article posits that the most likely explanation is the new cocktail mutations of the virus. It also postulates that mass religious gatherings, election rallies ‘may’ have contributed. But more importantly, it makes no cocksure conclusions that the severity of the second wave was fully predictable, and is non-committal on the exact causes. Many commentators are making claims on the contrary with neither facts, nor science to back this up. Emotions and social media noise and claims do not count as proof unfortunately.
................

Let’s come to the oxygen issue. The reason for the shortage isn’t supply; it’s getting oxygen to where it’s needed. Though factories have ramped up production, most of them are located in the eastern part of the country — more than a thousand miles from major cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Transport is proving to be a big obstacle since tanks of compressed gases usually travel by road or train. Now these tanks have to travel farther than ever before to keep up with surging demand in north and west India. Plus, the cryogenic tanks that hold compressed oxygen take about four to six months to manufacture. And private hospitals were loath to invest in their own oxygen generating plants (possible but quite expensive). So there was no magic wand, pandemics can overwhelm any system.
