What??
It seems you are looking at something else entirely.
SM right now full of people fuming at govt no matter what the action they take. Day in and day out there is some person asking for a plasma doner sometimes bed or some medicine people are fully into the belief that govt has left them to fend for themselves.
Compare this to the first wave people are now watching their near and dear ones in critical conditions everyone knows someone who was infected.
Even biased articles by NYT get responses like ha suffering porn hoga but are they wrong though.
Today's desicion of lockdown was also received very badly in karnataka as people were once again complaining of no warning or alert.
Govt should hope that people forget about this as time goes and we don't get hit by a third wave though it seems unlikely.
In situations like this where govt is being blamed for things it has no hand on they better hope public forgets about this.
Nobody believes the official case count or deaths being reported by the govt though many belive that the govt is not hiding rather the system is too overloaded to monitor everything.
Even RW subs like India speaks have change their tune over the past month.
There are plenty of people on SM peddling fake sob stories, no way to verify. Besides, SM as has shown is no gauge of the mood of the electorate.
The government was caught unawares as to the extent of this wave and it's speed. Controlling narrative in th context of an adversarial media is extremely tough.
The way for government to drive media is to set the agenda and the story of the day and not react to whatever the nationl or international media throws your way. You dismiss that and out out your own story.
Modi did that successfully in the first term and actually up until the anti-CAA riots. Post that, we got Covid and that has made managing the story very difficult.
Anyways, post May 2, the Covid stories will disappear if BJP loses Bengal as Momta will be the new darling of anti-Modi politics or if BJP wins, it will get further highlighted to try and cover up the political significance of such a win.
The government can't hope that people forget. First, we have to manage this wave best as we can and vaccinate as many as possible, then prepare for an even worse third and fourth waves with health infra, out states on notice if they don't concur and take action against them in full public view.
Then push hard on other agenda that has got side tracked due to Covid.
Remembering, people on SM are not the main voter base of Modi, it's the poor people who benefit from his schemes.
Of course, nationalist moves such as pre-emptive attacks on terror targets always help.
Forget controlling MSM or SM and force them to cover the story you want.
