Pune has been in lockdown or pseudo lockdown for 15 days now. Hasnt done anything to put less strain on any resources, nor is the number of infections going down.
The current numbers remain constant as we are at our absolute limits of testing every day, if it increases the number of positive cases will go up.

In the last wave hardly had anyone do CT Scans, In current wave RT-PCR followed by HRCT is being done around here in 99% of the cases.

He will sell vaccines at rs 400 to states and @ 600 rs to private hospitals. Now state government's can negotiate and also provide vaccines at subsidised rates to its people. For those who can afford I don't think 600 rs is a big deal, I mean those who want to get it from private hospitals. I don't have a problem with this. Also the prices will decrease as the availability increases.

The production cost of the AZ vaccine is 2.50 USD roughly but SII has to pay royalties to AZ and the Oxford Uni Consortium, which may explain why SII has to sell it at a higher price point than AZ elsewhere.

Although I don't intend to defend SII's business practices, the pricing has only been called into question now due to the Centre's decision to allow commercial marketing. However it's easy to see the logic of what the centre is doing here- going by epidemiological data, vaccinating the over 40s reduces the risk of death and hospitalisations by 95-99%- this is borne out by Israeli and the latest UK figures which incidentally are derived from a cohort that has mostly received only one AZ shot- so the central government has quite rightly decided to direct scarce resources where it's likely to deliver maximum benefit whilst allowing states to purchase/subsidise vaccinations for the rest where benefits of inoculation are likely to be, at best, marginal.

There will be calls for fiscal stimulus once the economy takes a battering from the second wave so Modi has to be careful not to squander money on vaccines for those least at risk from CoviD. Besides SII is a business and what incentive would it have to continue making something when it knows all the production would be seized by the government at a price dictated by it? SII is in the process of commencing production of Novovax which it would be selling for roughly 20 USD per shot and already holds the rights to produce the first ever Malaria vaccine made by Oxford that recently cleared Phase III trials. If the government insists on setting the price for Covishield in perpetuity, SII will simply scale down production and divert resources to it's more commercially viable products. It's all a fine balancing act and I personally think the centre has done a good job all things considered.
