i know bengali bhramins eat fish.

Bengali Brahmins eat mutton, fish ,chicken with the only exception being beef(cow meat). In Kali temples even buffaloes were sacrificed in some tantric areas of WB. Vegetarianism is however not alien to WB as many Vaishnav sects irrespective of caste avoid meat and there are even weekdays where some Bengalis avoid eating meat or fish.

Personally I "try" avoid non veg/meat with the exception of fish.

Another day, another loss of a great personality. There seems to be no rest for the wicked powers who are pulling all the stalwarts away from us. Shankha Ghosh was true liberal who did not fear the totalitarianism of Leftist "bhodrolok" elite in WB nor the malpractices of any dispensation ruling WB. A man of letters, he leaves us Bengalis with a void that would be hard to fill. Hope we can soon fill the vacuum left by the demise of this great man.

Utility lines become almost impossible to manage and service. Plus, the added expense on creating roads etc.

For a large populous country like ours, apartments are the only way out. For those who can afford, gated communities and bungalows are a solution.

We have a complex right next to ours with 2000 flats measuring about 2050 sqft each. Spread it on the ground and it becomes as big as a layout. The whole set up with swimming pool, massive clubhouse and walk area is accommodated in a mere 9 acres of land. Impossible to imagine 2000 row houses measuring 2000 sqft each after leaving recommended space around the boundary, front area falana dimkana etc.

Even if you halve the plot size to just 1200 sqft, what you get is complete chaos as is witnessed in most of Bangalore or elsewhere.

On another note a third year boy from my alma mater ,JU passed away today due to Covid 19 complications. Even the youth are not being spared from the ravages of the second wave Covid it seems.

Everything can be managed but what to do with the labor worker.
1 lady worker in our factory is saying that her sister-in-law's daughter is getting married on 23rd April and she is will go to her hometown in Bihar today. She is adamant on going (shaadi ka khana miss nahi kar sakti!).
Everything we told her about the current situation in Anand Vihar (Bus Terminal in Delhi) and in Delhi and UP-Bihar, fell on deaf ears, Shaadi to miss nahi kar te na! (Corona ke chakkar mai shaadi cancel karde! Ram Ram Ram, Pagla gye kya babuji!)
Kya kare in logo ka! They are ready to die but they wont miss the wedding function and free food there! and also not ready to scale down the marriage function, reduce the invitees list.

There is a wedding hall near my house. Yesterday there was a wedding. The barat came in with full crowd. I hope no one was Covid positive.

They (Western and Central UP workers) like to come to work on their own term and want salary more than double of other workers.

There does not have to be this much disparity tho.
These kind of Apartments are in demand because large population is migrating into some select few cities and the demand is so much that they have to fit us into these concrete towers.

If population is distributed all across India evenly than we can make do with these kind of Apartments.

I have literally seen UP wale bhaiyas with 2-3 yrs of work experience coming to ask for work in our factory and saying, "Bhaiya ji Supervisor bana doge kya!"

What about pulses, dal is a god sent to us veggies.

For pure veggies there is only milk.. For the not so pure .. there is also egg.. plant protein sources although good, cannot replace animal proteins, as plant based proteins have lower absorption rate, and are not complete w.r.t required amino acids..( Milk, egg, Chicken, mutton are complete)
