Me neither. The crowds, blackmarketing, frauds and fakery would be mind-boggling once vasooli type people get their hands on the dose. Would want the dust to settle, ideally, but too worried about the virus to think whether to delay.

The logic of the government was to vaccinate priority groups first (health workers, police & elderly).

May 1 st onward there would be a huge rush at centers.

I hope all seniors get vaccinated first before that.

I don't think so. Lot of seniors are due for their second dose in the month of May

Mingling of seniors going in for their 2nd dose with humongous (and mostly lawless) crowds in India is a definitely a cause for worry.
I definitely am worrying, since I need to take my parents and mother in law for their 6-8 week interval dose after May1.

Finally, a much needed move if the economy was to be kept open through this catastrophe. More importantly, vaccine manufacturers are now allowed to sell up to 50% of their vaccines in the open market.

So what brought upon this sudden about turn? Well some part of this is rumor and speculation so don't exactly take everything at face value

India's total.vaccine manufacturing capacity was around 1.8-2.4 billion doses a year or around 150-200 mil a month. But the current utilization was barely 50-60 mil a month. Why? Because by setting the prices at just over $2 and denial of permission to export, the government removed any incentive for the private sector to jump in. Even Serum Institute of India held back investments, if they really needed INR 3000 crores, they could have tapper either the baking sector or private equity. They undoubtedly would have, if they saw the returns as being worth it. You probably can't blame the government for it. The harebrained penny pinching bureaucrats would have driven the price negotiation.

Now the hope is that with the liberalization and opening up of public markets to vaccine manufacturers, there will be sufficient incentive for firms to get into overdrive.

Would appreciate a more direct post than this.. Are you implying that Modi is trying to pull a fast one on this country by opening up vaccination policy? If so, how? Genuinely curious, apart from the doomsday projects of not having enough vaccines to go around.

btw, do we even have vaccines considered safe for 28 yr olds in india?

Not sure if immune response would differ in between a 28 year old and say, a 30 year old ? Do elaborate, please..

A key aspect is below :

Private entities are allowed to import fully ready to use vaccines for utilization in the private sector.

This has potential to be a game changer given market dynamics.

Lockdown will delay the inevitable only. All other factors remaining the same (and they WILL remain largely the same, thanks to incompetent state sarkars), we will simply delay peaks and deaths by a few days, Unless something drastic like blanket vaccination is done. Shut down everything, fine, but vaccinate everyone, let their immunity build up for a month and then open up once and for all.

It will take 6 months to vaccinate all of us
