A Tale of Two States - both ruled by opposition parties.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity..."

Yes, Charles Dickens and his Tale of Two Cities. Here's a story many of you might have missed. "A Tale of Two States."

First the positive story.

Punjab is governed by an 'Opposition' party. The CM vowed not one grain of wheat would be wasted in the Khariff crop. So, Punjab and the Central Government worked in tandem to harvest the crop. You probably know that Punjab contributes 35% of our wheat.

Usual seasonal migrant labour was missing due to the COVID19 lockdown. To compensate, people under MNREGA were mobilised by the Centre. Fleets of combined harvesters were mobilised and escorted in convoys from elsewhere to the Punjab's fields. FCI was mobilised. 2000 odd additional mandis were created to reduce crowding and improve social distancing. The Centre controlled Para-military forces worked with the local police to control the convoys of thousands of trucks and tractors carrying wheat from fields to mandi / aarat and beyond to godowns. Harvesting started on 15th April and still continuing. They are actually lighting up the fields at night to allow harvesting on 24x7 basis. The focus is to quickly complete harvesting and disband the workforce to reduce chances of the disease to spread.

Net result. In 2019, Punjab harvested 1.3 Million Tonnes (MT) all through April. Some more in May. This year, from 15-26 April 2020 ie, in 9 days alone, Punjab has harvested 2.8 MT. Stunning! Not only that, Punjab would have the all time high record wheat production this year.

FCI is present at all the mandis and aarats, procuring and paying immediately for the wheat as it is coming in, putting money in the farmers' hands, encouraging them to harvest even more quickly.
The story doesn't end there. Punjab Government is working with the FCI and the Indian Railways to simultaneously take the grain away from Punjab as there's no place to store all the grain in Punjab itself.

So, the Indian Railways have created special Annapoorna Trains. Each train is an amazing 2.4 km long, comprising 84 wagons with multiple engines and radio communication between the drivers and the guardsmen. Best of Indian Railway drivers and guardsmen from the Shatabdis and Rajdhanis are operating the Annapoorna Trains. These trains are taking all the wheat from Punjab to FCI godowns around the country.

In April 2019, Indian Railways transported some 2 MTs of food grains. This April (2020), they have already crossed 4 MT by 25th of April.

All of the above is being managed by Special Teams comprising of DMs, SPs Para-Military, Indian Railway and FCI under the overall supervision of the MHA. Brilliant example of amazing achievement if State and Centre work together.

But this is a Tale of Two States.

See what's happening in West Bengal. The only topic that all the four Bangla news channels have been covering for the last few days is State v/s Centre fights. CM's 3 page letter, followed by Governor's 5 page letter, followed by CM's 7 page letter, followed by Governor's 11 page letter. Whether the Constitution is being upheld etc, etc. Utter crap.

Is there any news of how and when the Khariff crops in Bengal would be harvested? Any news of the Khariff potato, onion, rice and mustard harvesting? Any news about their procurement and sale? Any report on how to put money in the hands of the farmers? I couldn't find any.

It seems, the entire world has forgotten the Bengal farmers.

How dare you tell something odd against our Bengali media?? They are the unbiased of all.:hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:

its such a joke even people took sweden name here with 31000 confirmed cases sweden has 3800 deaths and just 5000 recovery as of today just compared to India with 112000 cases and 3400 deaths and 45000 recoveries. If the lockdown was not in place we would hear a very different kind of ranting from the sections how careless the govt was to kill so many thousands and bla bla from the leftshits cabal to opposition . now with lockdown they have migrant goal post . Wait for another 10 days that goal post will shift to something else .

Some folks were quoting Sweden as an effective model wrt to its "soft lockdown" approach. Current situation there -

"Sweden has now overtaken the UK, Italy and Belgium to have the highest coronavirus per capita death rate in the world, throwing its decision to avoid a strict lockdown into further doubt."

Yesterday on my way back from work , I saw 12 state transport buses parked near commissioner office i just slowed down my bike to check and saw busses full with migrants , a driver and policeman was leading a group of migrants to a bus as per their train tickets allocated from commissioner office and being driven to railway station to board the trains to their native . Just across the road another group of migrant labourers were just sitting and watching these people as their turn have not yet come and they know it will come sooner for them . The confidence in them that they will reach home look brighter seeing this current batch of migrants departing the city . I moved from there another 4 kms ahead i see a bunch of migrants hoping on to empty container carrier truck and going ahead . There are so many different opinions among migrant labourers itself few want to stay back and wait for the lockdown to be lifted , Few want to go back with fear of virus catching them .

Lucky they were not thrown out like so called corruption crusader in delhi who sent migrants to Delhi border saying buses are waiting for them to take further .

At least TG CM and administration treated migrants from other state with some dignity

For every 100s of migrants media is covering walking there is another 100 who are silently boarding the train and going home .

We read about migrant who was stuck in delhi flyover want to visit bihar his son is dying . But how many read about people who are stuck abroad and couldn't return back to india to see their dead parents . is it only migrants labourers suffering not others ?

Sex and Sharuk khan sells in bollywood , In journalism Poverty sells much better both for domestic and international .

Talk, talk and more talk. So the journalists needed a crisis to have their eyes opened and their socialist feelings awakened, all these while cheerfully reporting trash news and sweeping the real state of affairs under the rug. Anyone who has his/her eyes open would have seen the plight of migrant laborers - how they live in makeshift tents / containers, work under extreme poverty and low wages, deplorable conditions, child labor, get diseased (sleeping in the open, no toilets, drinking water) etc. All these while, these rich people are very happy to employ them while turning a blind eye to their condition, it’s a necessary evil for them to fuel economic growth - 8% yoy. And now, when a crisis strikes, they are suddenly reminded that it’s the government’s fault? Yeah, there are a lot of things the govt. could have done better, but if the govt. has failed the migrant laborers, so have the people in this country.

what if Nepal issue has been raked up because of WION’s coverage of CCP over the past 2 months?
What if they are opening another front for us..now that the NE assets of chinese are taken care of.
I dont think any bit of such hand twisting would make India from going to the Jugular of china on the WHO investigation on how WHO sided with china and help china spread it all across the globe

You hit the nail on the head! Exploit the plight of the poor. That's the mantra of vote bank politics and TRPs for the media. The poor middle class like don't seem to exist.

We cannot possibly compare ourselves to a typical migrant worker.

Yeah I agree, everyone is suffering due to this pandemic. But how far our standards of living dipped compared with pre lockdown situation?

Otoh,Their living standard was very bad pre lockdown, and it is way worse post lockdown.

Story of a Lost son, story of migrants losing lives is used to expressed the worst case scenario of this crisis. Unlike a grieving father stuck in foreign land with a steady job, this migrant he has to walk through the highways for kms,in the mercy of nature.

Even after he reached his home district,he was quarantined for few days(I'm not critiquing the quarantine) when he was tested negative,he wasn't released immediately, his wife (grieving mother) was called in to check him out.

Can it happen to a economically well to family?

Even if it happens to a middle class,we would've seen SM outrage and the concerned officials has to issue a "were sorry that...".

I don't think my above argument will make anyone here understand the issue here, but I'm posting here to record their pov.

My above points are all based on humanitarian grounds, but there is a political side to it.

Most of the migrants are from hindu community and from the strong bjp voting block.
As a pro hindutvadhis,we should be compassionate about any hindu group during the hour of crisis, regardless of their language, caste or economic backgrounds.

If we switch on/off our hindutvaness on such issues, people from low income group will disregard the hindutva causes in the future issues.

I needn't to remind anyone, the demolition of babur majid or response to "peaceful" was always given by these poor hindus.

What happens when they decided to vote against bjp alliance?
Bihar election is coming up very soon,

Absolutely...
main thing being the chinese investment in the chinese lies post the china virus pandemic going down the drain when a fair investigation is carried out with the world nations and India leading the investigation.
secondly...most of the chinese sponsored terrorists trained in the chinese far east villages closer to Indian ..Myanmar border are getting either killed or caught or they surrender draining the chinese investment in terrorism against india.
Thirdly..poK is going to get solved and chinese will have to vacate their position in Indian Kashmir.
and yes
the huge number of companies in china leaving china and lining up for India. and we welcoming them with freebies and stuffs!

The usual chinese bluff...thats what is happening in the region..
but none of this is going to hold India from moving ahead the righteous way!

I really give a damn if they care for middle class exist or not , but what shocked me was the kind of abuse thrown at middle class by these so called Presstitutes saying we are responsible for these migrant labourers crisis as we voted this govt and we are enjoying sitting at home and enjoying the lockdown . Leftshits turned the lockdown narrative Poor vs Middle class as if they middle class asked for lockdown. They had no clue how much middle class with its own gloomy days still pitched what ever help they can , my company cut 7 days of my salary but i still paid both my maid and cook who hasn't even reported one day to work for the whole month full salary , Me and my two colleagues took own initiative and checked with near by police station about migrant labourers camp and we distributed 2000 food packets 500 each for 4 days . This is apart from taking care of 3000 labourers in our own construction site for good 40 days .I know so many of my colleagues started applying for PF withdrawal under the Covid scheme govt provided just to pay their EMIs as they felt EMI moratorium which banks offered works more costlier and still did their own part in donating money to akshaya patra or to any foundation which was feed migrant labourers and poor .

The way Media and few started portraying Middle class as some psychopaths who are delighted seeing migrants walking and dying in accidents .

Every single society, including supposedly socialist/ communist ones have rich and poor.
No system has come close to Western capitalism in its various formats (also implemented in S Korea, Japan) when it comes to lifting up living standards for the poorest in society on an absolute basis.

If India hadn't fallen into the envy rich socialism trap, then absolute income levels for the poorest would have been multiples higher, more industrialisation in places like UP and hence lesser numbers of migrants, slower population growth etc.

But no, let's just moan and complain about some people having a bank balance
i guess you missed it. I was pointing out how those listed 5 points are applicable ONLY to those comfortably well placed in life to sail past this lockdown. Try and relate to those 5 points when you are hungry and you don't know from where your next meal will come or how you will feed your hungry children.
