Bat soup. I will believe nothing else. 😷
I meant science of epidemiology and how to overcome it confidently.

We need to find the cure asap so our oriental friends can go back to having their bat soup mixed with snake meat served with fresh dog meat noodles flavored with cat sauce on the sides :hungry:

Beijing demanded praise in exchange for medical supplies

A growing number of reports indicate Chinese officials pushed their counterparts in Europe to make positive statements about China in order to receive shipments of medical supplies to fight the novel coronavirus.

Poland: In exchange for medical supplies, Chinese officials pressured Polish President Andrzej Duda to call Chinese President Xi Jinping to express gratitude

  • “Poland wasn’t going to get this stuff unless the phone call was made, so they could use that phone call” for propaganda purposes, the U.S. ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, told the New York Times.
Germany: German officials have been approached by Chinese counterparts trying to get them to make positive public statements about China’s coronavirus response and international assistance, according to German newspaper Die Welt Am Sonntag.

What they're saying: “What is most striking to me is the extent to which the Chinese government appears to be demanding public displays of gratitude from other countries; this is certainly not in the tradition of the best humanitarian relief efforts," Elizabeth Economy of the Council on Foreign Relations told the Times.

  • “It seems strange to expect signed declarations of thanks from other countries in the midst of the crisis.”
The big picture: A quid pro quo for vital medical aid alienates global audiences who had at first been inclined to welcome Chinese Communist Party leadership in the fight against the coronavirus.

  • "The fairly aggressive party-state effort to 'tell a good China story' actually increases public awareness that these propaganda efforts on the Chinese side are going on," Thorsten Benner, director of the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin, told Axios.
  • "They are shooting themselves in the foot by being so pushy on this."

Wuhan Corona Virus: How the lower middle class and working class are feeling, how this could be an opportunity to make things better and why that would not be the case (Based on real life experiences, not theories ;) )

1) As a working class person, i have realized that both GoI and state govt expect me to go to local barber's shop and get a hair cut. My life does not matter, the local barber's livelihood (vote) matters. Amazon will NOT sell a pair of scissors (a hair cutting one!) because Amazon is a good boy and listens to Govt. My intention is not to blame the govt here- i understand that ministers live a different life and they will have no clue about lower middle class folks' woes/ aspirations. But what about the Buro-crats (mostly buro-bhams i guess)? I believe they certainly look down on us poor lower middle class fellows.

Boss, I want a pair of sccissors from Amazon. Let amazon sell it to my area. Don't come in the way.
And i want to buy cellotape and football too online with safe delivery at my door step with 6 feet social distance.
But i am let down.

I must go to a local store and mingle with 10s of people to buy these items since Govt wants me to become more lower class (as time goes by ;) )

2) If only ever GoI/ state govt made one survey for lower middle class folks like us on how to make things better to contain spread of corona virus. But no, nobody would ask us. We are poor subjects, they know better.

Boss, i want to be able to close a demat account online. Why does the bank want me to take printout and go to the bank branch to submit the closure form. Is this "digital india"? Of course, i know that Banks and private companies sponsor elections, so they are more important than my simple wishes ;)

And "digital india" is a crap marketing slogan. We studied digital communication back in the days! There was no naked dance of "digital" cool aid!

3) Pray why should adding a nominee be an offline process in digital india? When alexander came to the border of India, apparently he said to Selucas "Indeed Selucas, strange is this country!". If in digital india, we are doing so much online, why don't just allow us to do these little things online? After i raise the request online, the company can make a verification call. But no- that's not possible. We need printout, courier (and then glue but glue is not sold on Amazon to my area!)

I bought the Braun hair trimmer MGK3020 for 2695 on Myntra two weeks back. Try different sites and don't just stick with Amazon.

I agree with bulk of your argument.

India to develop ‘fully indigenous’ Covid vaccine as ICMR partners with Bharat Biotech
New Delhi: India Saturday officially entered the race to develop a Covid-19 vaccine. The Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) announced a tie-up with the Bharat Biotech International Limited for the development of a “fully indigenous vaccine for Covid-19”.

The tally of Covid-19 cases in India has crossed the 60,000 mark.

According to a statement issued by the ICMR, “the virus strain isolated at” the National Institute of Virology laboratory in Pune will be used to develop the vaccine. “The strain has been successfully transferred from NIV to Bharat Biotech International Ltd. (BBIL). Work on vaccine development has been initiated between the two partners.”

Currently, over 100 candidate vaccines are in different stages of development around the world, according to the World Health Organization. Eight of such vaccines, including ones being developed by US-based biotech company Moderna and the University of Oxford, are undergoing clinical evaluation.

Expediting vaccine development

This is the first time that a vaccine for Covid-19 is being developed in India, which reported its first cases way back in January.

Speaking to ThePrint, Dr Rajnikant Srivastava, ICMR’s head of the Department of Research Management, Policy Planning and Communication, in Delhi and Director of Regional Medical Research Centre, Gorakhpur, however, maintained that it didn’t take considerable time for such a project to be initiated.

“There were only three cases till March. We started working in March…In only two months we were able to isolate the virus, culture it and transfer it for vaccine development,” he said.

According to ICMR’s statement, NIV Pune, the first laboratory in the country to begin testing for Covid-19, “will provide continuous support to BBIL for vaccine development”. Srivastava said BBIL was chosen for its “expertise in vaccine development”. “Earlier, they had developed the vaccine for the Japanese encephalitis, so they were chosen…They will manufacture the vaccine,” he said.

The vaccine, he said, will take anywhere from six months to one year to be developed as it will undergo the standard trials on animals and humans.

The tally of Covid-19 cases climbed to 62,939 on Sunday as 3,277 more cases were registered. The highest increase was recorded in Maharashtra where the number of cases rose to 20,228 from 19,063.
