CSIR identifies top 25 drugs/drug candidates for repurposing

CSIR has been leading the fight against Covid19 epidemic on multiple fronts, with major emphasis on repurposed drugs as they can be quickly deployed for treatment as opposed to new drugs which need almost a decade of development. Globally many drugs are under clinical trials on Coronavirus patients to establish their efficacy against Covid19.

Towards providing drugs for Coronavirus patients in India, CSIR has identified the top 25 drugs/drug candidates for repurposing. Among these top 25 drugs, Favipiravir a broad spectrum inhibitor of viral RNA polymerase has emerged as of one of the most promising drugs. Favipiravir was developed by Fujifilm Toyama Chemical Ltd.,and is an approved treatment for common influenza and is marketed in Russia, China and Japan.

CSIR-IICT, based in Hyderabad has developed a convenient and costeffective synthetic process for Favipiravir. As a collaborative effort with industry, CSIR-IICT transferred the entire process and significant quantities of pharma grade API of Favipiravir to Cipla a leading pharmaceutical company. Cipla will be conducting the investigations prior to launching on this drug against Covid-19 in India. Cipla approached regulatory authority DCGI for approval for Favipiravir to be launched in India. Favipiravir is a generic drug and already being used for treatment of influenza and also is in clinical trials for Covid-19 in many countries such as in China, Japan and Italy. Under the auspices of ICMR, Cipla will conduct a suitable limited trial prior to marketing the product as Ciplenza.

CSIR and Cipla have a long history of working together for affordable drugs in India and globally. Many of the technologies for HIV generic drugs were established at CSIR labs and Cipla was successful in providing affordable treatment to HIV patients worldwide which led to saving of millions of lives. They have assured the government that they will do same for Favirpiravir.

Nice, otherwise gillead is making people crazy. In an attempt to prove it’s patented drug works, that company has been throwing doubts on many other generic drugs.

in all probability , gillead is behind all the global bad press for HCQ too...

Indian Railways today crosses 3 million mark in distribution of free meals

Distribution of free hot cooked meals by Indian Railways crossed the three million mark today during the national lockdown due to COVID-19. On 20th April, 2020, Indian Railways reached 2 million mark in distribution of free meals, in last 10 days, it has accomplished a million mark in distribution of free meals.

The global pandemic has created unprecedented situations leaving a large number of people vulnerable to hunger. Those worst hit by this pandemic and lockdown are stranded persons, daily wage labourers, migrants, children, coolies, homeless, the poor and many who form the floating population.

Indian Railways staff from a number of Railway organizations have worked tirelessly since 28th March 2020 to provide hot cooked meals to needy people after the lockdown due to COVID-19. Railways has been providing bulk cooked food with paper plates for lunch and food packets for dinner through IRCTC base kitchens, RPF resources and contribution of NGOs. While delivering the food to needy persons, social distancing and hygiene is being observed.

Distribution of food is being done with the help of RPF, GRP, commercial departments of Zones, State Governments, District administrations and NGOs, even beyond the station vicinity to cater to the food requirements of needy people in areas surrounding the railway stations.

With the active cooperation of IRCTC base kitchens in New Delhi, Bangalore, Hubli, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad, Bhusaval, Howrah, Patna, Gaya, Ranchi, Katihar, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar, Balasore, Vijaywada, Khurda, Katpadi, Tiruchirapalli, Dhanbad, Guwahati, Samastipur, Prayagraj, Itarsi, Vishakhapatnam, Chengalpatu, Pune, Hajipur, Raipur and Tatanagar spread over various zones such as Northern, Western, Eastern, Southern and South Central, more than 30 lacs cooked meals have been distributed till today 30th April 2020.

Of these, about 17.17 lacs cooked meals have been provided by IRCTC, about 5.18 lacs meals have been provided by RPF from its own resources, about 2.53 lacs meals have been provided by Commercial and other departments of Railways and nearly 5.60 lacs meals have been donated by NGOs working with the Railway organizations.

The Railway Protection Force has played a major role in the food distribution to needy people prepared by IRCTC, other Railway departments, NGOs and from its own kitchens. Starting with distribution of food to 5419 needy persons over 74 locations on 28.03.2020, the number has grown daily. Presently about 50000 persons daily are being provided meals on an average by RPF across approximately 300 locations across the country.

The Corona Situation in India seems to be manageable so far because of the concentration of spread in about 100 hotspots in the cities.

But now the government has allowed movement of migrant labor and workers of unorganized sectors to move from cities to their homes which is more than 90% cases happen to some "village". I am very apprehensive of this movement because this may take Coron to villages.

Villages are what India makes of and villages of India are the least privileged in terms of availability of health services, infrastructure, basic support systems. and approachability. Even the basic amenities like water, electricity, sanitation, roads, transport, etc are not adequate to meet requirements of management of an epidemic.

Indian Civilian Babus which include Police, Forest Officials, Revenue education and schools, etc are animals of cities, towns, and suburbs. They may be forces to go to villages once in a while but they dwell in towns and cities including the famous "Vidya" Rani types.

Corona reaching villages will be a tough nut to crack....

Got this off /r/China on reddit - CCP troll exposes his own tactics in /r/coronavirus. I've deleted the mandarin original text and left only the translation

=====

I'm here to share some of my experiences baiting people on YouTube and Reddit. I'm not a keyboard warrior, I don't play LoL and I haven't overtly trolled Americans before, but I still have some experience conversing with them.

Requirement #1: Don't explicitly show you're on China's side / Your username shouldn't make it obvious you're Chinese

This doesn't make you seem cowardly or insecure, rather, it's a simple manipulation tactic. [blah blah some rant about Indians being poor] Likewise, we need to hide our identities when baiting (remember: baiting, not trolling [?]) Americans.

Requirement #2: Your style of discourse must align with those of Americans

If they say the America's coronavirus strategy is better than Sweden's and you say China built a hospital in 10 days... if they say America's testing is worse than South Korea's and you say Chinese doctors are well-equipped... there's no real discussion taking place. If you want the other side to accept your attacks on America, you need to imitate the way Americans argue amongst themselves. [blah blah cut some other rant about the Indian caste system] Similarly, we shouldn't overthink what views we want to implant in their heads. Rather, we should base our arguments around views that they are willing to consider, and then bait them further in our direction.

Some topics that I've used to success on Reddit:

"The US government doesn't care about lives, only elections"

"The elites lie to the middle class to protect their profits"

I got a lot of replies saying these things because they identify with these viewpoints. Anything goes when it comes to politics - attack Trump, attack Cuomo, just use whatever works.

Requirement #3: Pretend to be on America's side in your discussions

Importantly, you need to be somewhat illogical - it's actually really easy to do this. If you directly accuse the US of something, people will rebuke you; instead, if you pretend to support the opposite view, people will use mental gymnastics to argue in favor of your actual position. [Wow, this CCP lemming just discovered the power of reverse psychology! ...and cut some other contrived example of an "Indian" criticizing China's school admissions system]

For example, under a post titled "Gov. Newsom Orders All California Counties To Review Autopsies Dating Back To December", someone asked, "why stop at December?"

My response: "Obviously they don't want to push it too far back as to suggest the virus started in the United States. I'm not being sarcastic here but if we ended up being the first country having coronavirus we would look really bad in the international community. Keeping China the first country to have reported the virus is necessary."

[Note: Found the comment chain here and pasted it word-for-word: http://archive.is/fH02A]

I'm not a big V [something like the blue checkmark on Twitter] and I can't summon an army of followers, but I'll be happy if can spread the word with this post and help others troll American websites.

—————————————

[This block of text explains the US political system and how to sow divisions between the left and right (obviously from spending way too much time reading /r/politics and /r/The_Donald*, but hey, let's give him an A for effort). I won't translate everything but I'll highlight a few snippets.]*

... the west has brainwashed and spread propaganda [uhh...] for so long that we can't change our perception on the world stage. Instead, we should incite division within America to distract them from China, and make them hate their government...

Ways to sow further divisions in the Democratic Party: Say that the Democratic establishment is corrupt and useless, and then inflame Biden and Sanders supporters: Say Biden has trouble speaking and has no charisma, and that's he'll lose against Trump. Say Sanders isn't a real Democrat and he can't form a coalition to beat Trump, and that he deserves what's coming.

Next, exaggerate the conflict between the federal and state governments. Constantly mention that the federal government doesn't care about blue states, that they're confiscating medical supplies and leaving people out to die. [paraphrases some recent news headlines] Direct their hatred towards the federal government.

Third, inflame the divisions between red and blue states... remember that blue states already hate Trump so there's no reason to bait them into targeting him. Instead, you should make them hate the entire federal government and destroy their trust in the system.

For the Republican Party: Emphasize conflicts between the GOP and Trump himself. Emphasize news reports about Rand Paul and Romney disagreeing with Trump. Highlight how Trump turned his back on the governor of Georgia when he announced the state would reopen. Attack them using a Christian perspective, inflame the divisions between church and state. [gives example of pastors ignoring stay-at-home orders]

For moderates/swing voters: Post about Trump's self-contradictions and disagreements between him and his own cabinet. You can use examples from our own [Chinese] news sources about this. Post your thoughts in the comments below~

Villagers in India will be fine. They get a lot of Vitamin D due to constant exposure to sun. Their immunity is much better than others. In US the rate of infection in the homeless is almost negligible. Most of the infections are among the urban middle/upper class in big cities like NYC, SF.

Recovery rate 25.64%.
Increasing by a margin of 0.30٪ everyday.

The new cases, does any body have data how they are contracting the virus?
When all outdoor activities have ceased how are people contracting virus?

Most villages would do just fine, management would become easy there.

the fact that many are walking home means disease spread concerns are minimal.

yesterday there was news of one chap who travelled 1400 kms to his village.
