Let's put the actual tests conducted vs infected count statewise. Also add in the coefficient of international airport/traveler count. Enough with nonsense political sledging.

1. More test done will not produce more positive cases if there is no wide spread of infection
2. More international passengers also doesn't translate to more positive cases

Odisha done more test compared to its neighbour bengal but funnily they have 1/3 of positive cases of less tested bengal . So more test more positive theory don't work if there is no spread of virus

MH was somewhere close to 2000 and TN was 1300 cases, Today MH has 7000+ cases , TN has around 1800+ cases.

Mumbai airport receives more international passengers than bangalore and chennai

but if you look chennai has more positive cases compared to whole of karnataka . Chennai airport receives 25-30 % less international passengers than bangalore airport .

pointing Failure of implementing strict lockdown by state administration is not political slugfest

Tumid record antithetical to objective numbers. Perceptive adjudication instead of cogent formula.

And This is coming from a "stars and ambassador" of the forum:shock:

And here I thought we are done away with the ad hominem attacks on fellow members.

Bhai,Can't you able to make your argument without these flame baits.

If one disagree with an argument then one should quote the exact argument then make an counter argument. Thats how argument should move forward. Not by using generic rhetoric on fellow members.

There are members like @indiatester And others regularly post day to day data points. I kindly request you to check those out.

If this forum missing out on "cogent data" then others who have, can post such data for others to see. If proven wrong, people like me would gladly change our pov,

no harm,no foul.

Study shows that COVID 19 may affect the Central Nervous System causing loss of smell and taste

Scientists of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur have explored the neuroinvasive nature of the COVID 19 virus SARS-CoV-2 highlighting that loss of smell and taste of infected patients makes their entire Central Nervous System (CNS) and the underlying structures in the brain more prone to viral infection with devastating effects.

Dr. Surajit Ghosh and his team have pointed out that SARS-CoV-2 is known to interact with a specific human receptor known as hACE2 (human angiotensin-converting enzyme-2) which also happens to be the entry point of the virus and has an almost ubiquitous presence in most human organs ranging from lung parenchyma to nasal mucosa. The brain is also known to express this receptor.

They have attributed the loss of smell or taste to the fact that nose and mouth both are very important entry points of the virus, which then may be slowly making its way to the olfactory bulb using the neurons of the olfactory mucosa. The olfactory bulb located in the forebrain is the structure that is chiefly responsible for the sense of smell. This explains the loss of smell associated with many asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 and also may be exposing the CNS to viral infection.

The paper accepted in ACS Chemical Neuroscience and supported by Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), a Statutory Body of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has suggested probable therapeutic strategies that could be adopted to combat it on the basis of understanding the neurological manifestations of the COVID-19.

The paper recounts a recently conducted study on the brain scans (CT and MRI) of a patient infected by COVID-19 virus that shows a rare encephalopathy called ANE, which leads to brain dysfunction with seizures and mental disorientation. It indicates that in the presence of human ACE2 receptors in CNS, the brain may be infected by the virus through the olfactory bulbs and also through other peripheral nerve terminals or simply blood circulation and may breach the blood-brain barrier to innervate and attack CNS. The scientists said that it may also completely destroy the medulla oblongata of the hindbrain, which regulates breathing, heart, and blood vessel function.

The paper also rings warning bells to the asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 with anosmia (loss of smell) and ageusia (loss of taste) to self-quarantine themselves as soon as they feel these and consult specialized nephrologists before they turn into carriers. It also suggests brain autopsies of COVID-19 infected patients and analysis of their cerebrospinal fluid.

"The pathway of infection of SARS-CoV-2 and its impact on various organs is an important area that would also help with the future rational approaches for therapy. The neuro-invasive nature of the virus and its effects on the senses of smell and taste are thus interesting and useful areas of investigation," said Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, DST.

The publication highlights that activities like smoking could increase the chances of contracting COVID-19 infection, attributing this to the interactions and co-expression of the hACE2 receptor and the nicotinic receptor, which is stimulated on smoking.

The paper reflects upon therapeutics agents ranging from the peptide-based therapeutics, which will curb the interaction between the viral protein and the human receptor to the strategic design of small molecule inhibitors designed against the viral spike protein that interacts with the ACE2. It also suggests the development of subunit vaccines from the purified virus along with antibody-based drugs.

china...what the heck did you guyz unleash on the world!

oh well!! so what was a rumor a few weeks back is now a fact based on scientific analysis

CIMAP’s Herbal products may boost immunity to avoid infection

Researchers at Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow, has developed scientifically proven two herbal products, which can boost the immunity of the persons as well as help in alleviating the dry cough symptom generally associated with the coronavirus infection.

CIMAP, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has decided to transfer the technology of its herbal products ‘CIM-Paushak’ and ‘Herbal Cough Syrup’ to the entrepreneurs and start-up companies. These two products were found to be effective in boosting the immunity of a person. Twelve valuable herbs including Puranva, Ashwagandha, Mulethi, Harad, Baheda and Sataver compounds have been used in both these products.

“The Institute would provide its pilot facility for manufacturing these herbal products - ‘CIM-Paushak’ and ‘Herbal Cough Syrup’ - to entrepreneurs and start-ups after signing of the MoU and transfer of technology”, said Dr. Prabodh K. Trivedi, Director, CIMAP. This pilot plant is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a quality control cell.

“Scientific studies have shown that ‘CIM-Puashak’ has performed better than other available immunity booster products in the market. It has also been found to be cheap, safe and effective in the animal trials conducted in the institute”, said Dr. D.N. Mani, lead researcher of the study. Herbal Cough Syrup is developed based on latest guidelines of the AYUSH ministry, and it has been prepared on the basis of the ‘Tridosha’ principle of Ayurveda, explained Dr. Mani.

According to health experts, coronavirus reduces the immune response of the infected person and it has been observed that this pandemic has mostly affected people with low immune system. The experts feel that improvement of the immune system helps in reducing the effects of the infection and also fight the COVID-19 disease.

We are now in the territory of downright prophecies. Niti aayog epidemiologists are drawing perfect parabolic curves like missile scientists remembering their 1st lecture on projectile motion.

From May 3, India would hit its peak in adding daily new cases at a little above 1,500 and this would drop to 1,000 cases by May 12, and down to zero by May 16. In all, this would mean that no more than 35,000 cases would be added between Saturday and the first fortnight of May.

Situation in India improving, hotspot districts moving towards being non-hotspot districts: Vardhan

New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said the coronavirus situation in the country is improving as many hotspot districts (HSD) are moving towards being non-hotspot districts (NHSD).
The minister visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre to take stock of the preparedness to overcome COVID-19, a statement from the ministry said.
On April 15, the health ministry declared 170 districts as COVID-19 hotspots and 207 districts as non-hotspots.
Hotspots are those districts which are reporting more number of cases or where the rate of growth of COVID-19 cases is high, the ministry said, adding that a detailed direction has been issued to states stating consolidated efforts are required to utilise this period of lockdown to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
The districts that have not reported any cases yet have also been directed to work on cluster containment plans, the ministry said.
Since then there have been no updates on the number of hotspots from the health ministry.
On Sunday, during his visit, the health minister spoke to some COVID-19 positive patients through video calling and enquired about their health. Robots handled the technology at the patients'' end, it said.
Vardhan also sought their feedback about the facilities available at AIIMS so that necessary improvements can be made, the statement said.
Through a graded, preemptive and proactive approach, the government of India is taking several steps along with the states/union territories for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19. These are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level, the ministry said.
After a detailed review, Vardhan appreciated AIIMS for ensuring 24X7 monitoring of COVID-19 confirmed and suspected patients using digital platforms, video and voice call technologies.
He also urged people to observe the lockdown in letter and spirit and to treat it as an effective intervention to cut down the spread of COVID-19.
"The situation is improving in India as hotspot districts (HSD) are moving towards being non-hotspot districts (NHSD)," the minister said.
Meanwhile, the cabinet secretary had a detailed video conferencing with chief secretaries and director generals of police (DGP) of states and union territories to review the preparedness for COVID-19 response.
Vardhan asserted that states with high viral load should focus on effective implementation of the lockdown measures and containment strategy.
They also need to focus on medical infrastructure like adequate availability of isolation beds, ICU beds and ventilators, he said.
As of now, 5,913 people have been cured of coronavirus with a recovery rate of 21.90 per cent in the country, the ministry said.
A total of 26,917 people have been confirmed positive for COVID-19, it said, adding that 826 deaths have been reported in India. PTI

Only a true miracle and good behaviour from cutlets - both non-existent - will make that upward looking graph go down. If we achieve it, then its good for all. But common sense tells me we are looking at a spike once lockdown is lifted and people interact during their everyday lives - just one eg - mumbai local trains.

More deaths and infections are the new normal for the next 2-3 years till a vaccine appears on the horizon.
