Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has demanded that China 'come clean' following reports that coronavirus originated in a Chinese laboratory, not as a bioweapon, but as part of bungling experiments to prove that Chinese scientists were superior to Americans in identifying emerging virus threats.

It comes after President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the U.S. is trying to determine whether the coronavirus first crossed to humans accidentally during experiments with bats at the Wuhan Institute of Virology Lab.

After word of the outbreak finally became public, Chinese leaders were quick to blame Wuhan's 'wet market' where wild animals -- though not bats -- are sold for consumption, leading one source to tell Fox News the debacle is the 'costliest government coverup of all time.'

What a stupid and ridiculous article. The entire world won't afford to do 6crore tests per day let alone india. If that stage is reached, we might as well close the economy for 3 full months even that will be cheaper. Again guys, the way our govt is handling the crisis, including the testing is excellent. Trust those professionals and not these hacks

Watch the brilliant interview by ICMR epidemiology chief on this issue in Print. He gave an excellent answer/explanation as to why test test test talk is stupid and why we need to be scientific our using of our resources including the testing capacity

Thats a jump of 798 active. Same yesterday was (1281/1001) compared to day before(796/620) . Check the 2nd plot for the growth numbers (active alone)

incase you haven't watched this interview. gives a few answers regarding testing.

i think to have a better understanding of high testing rate in other countries, we need to know what type of testing they are doing. are they clubbing both anti-body & PCR? anti-body test can be done on site and takes 30 mins & PCR test can be done only in a lab.

The gentleman in that interview is basically saying what my neighbourhood GP who looks at my tonsils usually says - 'test only if required'. Basically test only those that are in the risk category. I see two problems with approach, especially in case of this CCP virus which is highly infectious and has no vaccine so no prevention - if a virus carrier who is not in the risk category (there will be many around us like this) is not quarantined and moves around freely after lifting of lockdown, he triggers another round of outbreak. Extrapolate the 'he' in my previous sentence to a few hundred/thousand undetected virus carriers who fell outside the risk category and were not tested. Sad fact is, we can never do enough tests to identify all of these outside-risk-category-carriers. So more and more outbreaks and deaths are inevitable, till a comprehensive vaccine plan is in place.

We need to live with a couple of facts - the actual number of infected and dead will be much higher than the official reported ones for obvious reasons.
Even after taking the above into account, one silver lining for India is the low number of official deaths. Even if there is tiny percentage of unreported deaths that was caused by ccp virus, the number is still minuscule compared to other severely affected regions. You cannot hide deaths.
I have always given more importance to the death figures, coz that is the only number that actually indicates the severity of the outbreak.

There doesn't seem to be much of a possibly now. Even the ones in the media who are in anyway not wildly pro ccp are raising doubts on everything china has said or acted on since last November. Atm the wet market looks like a smoking gun to an open skeptic.
