The worst part in Bengal is the media. When you open TV at any point of time. You will see that the tv anchor is taking an interview of a doctor. Now, you guys may ask me that 'what's wrong with that?'

People should listen to doctors at a time like this. But these doctors rather than talking about social distancing or talking about how to prevent the virus, they are just busy fear mongering. You guys know how? Every time I open the TV I see a doctor saying the country should be lockdown for three months or so and if its not possible than a continuous 59 day lockdown should happen.

According to them as I heard today if the Govt withdraws the lockdown on 1 May, we will see an exponential growth in cases within 15 May. I mean if its so bad then why are you guys present in the society?
Are you for real ?. Do you think doctors are miracle workers that they can make the infections less? Let me tell you that if this lockdown doesn't continue for at least 50 days, we will be number 1 in the world for infections and deaths, and the majority will be the poor. They are absolutely correct to spread fear in the people because without that our retarded people will probably be partying in the mandir or masjid. Most of the Indians cant understand the concept of social distancing or how to prevent the virus. For them the best way to reduce any infections is sitting at home. At least now they know that it isn't a joke and have to take it seriously.

As it turns out ICMR has invited bids for some 45 lakh tests, with this being a combined number for both RT-PCR combo kits & rapid antibody tests. Companies with only ICMR-NIV approval are also eligible, so I am expecting recently qualified domestic players to secure orders.

For the posts above - just for comparison, from a layman's perspective - a pack of Imodium costs 100-400 bucks in India and in the US, it is 2000 $. Yes 2000 $ for meds that are routinely prescribed for traveler's diarrhea/IBS etc.

Regarding Bill Gates - he has his fierce proponents (who think he is at God level, Bill and Melinda Gates foundation - savior of world etc.) and opponents (who think he is the worst face of capitalist monopoly). I read a report somewhere that Bill Gates never vaccinated his kids or family even though he roots aggressively to vaccinate the world. Food for thought?
Blame it to US Pharma lobby . They are keeping drug prices artificially inflated
With govt's new portal on the way, all HCQ info may just be a click away

The government is set to launch a portal that will guide users of hydroxychloroquine — one of the drugs being tried for treating Covid-19 patients — to the nearest pharmacy that has it in stock, people in the know told ET.

The move will likely ease the worries of thousands of Indians who have been prescribed the drug for certain ailments — including malaria and autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus — but are facing difficulty in getting it after India lifted a ban on its export last week.

India’s drug pricing regulator, National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority (NPPA), has asked all druggists and chemists in the country to start putting in details on the portal, which is likely to be named Covid-med.

To start with, details of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin will be put in and later it may be expanded to other medicines. “Those who need hydroxychloroquine will find it easier to know the available stock and where is it available at the click of the mouse,” said a senior official who is aware of the development. The data on availability will be updated every day, the official said, adding that the information will be available district-wise.

“The objective is to make sure that the drug is available to those who need it. The IT platform will monitor availability of the drug at all distribution channels i.e. C&F agents, depot, distributors, wholesalers and retailers,” said another official.

Joint drug controller S Eswara Reddy has sent out a notice to all drug sale licence holders to register on the platform.

NPPA chairperson Shubhra Singh told ET that India has “enough stock of API and manufacturing capacity of HCQ formulation to meet country’s requirement as well as export demands.” A team led by India’s drug pricing regulator is reviewing the available stocks on a daily basis and will cater to export demands only after satisfying domestic consumption, Singh said.

well!! Responsive Governance..aint it?
why so much fuss about HCQ???
Its just a immunomodulator .
Seems Govt are not even looking to research for better drugs and vaccines and tests.

Xenophobia Rises: Thai actress sparks Twitter feud between users in China and Thailand
by Zaak Garrett

April 12, 2020

“nnevvy” is the Twitter username of actress Veeraya Sukaram, nicknamed New. Veeraya is “rumored” to be dating actor Vachirawit Cheevaari, or Bright, who is the star of the popular TV soap opera 2gether, in which he plays a gay man named Sarawat.

But the hashtag is not trending because fans of the series are disappointed Vachirawit isn’t gay in real life.

#nnevvy currently has nearly two million tweets and still counting, because of a post retweeted yesterday by Veeraya on her private Twitter account that was later deleted. She retweeted a post with a caption questioning China’s credibility and sense of responsibility during the COVID-19 outbreak.

This is the translation of what Veeraya retweeted.

“Wuhan has a lab with more than 1,500 strands of viruses, including the bat-virus that Chinese researchers study to make new vaccines. When the pandemic happened, China dared blame the US that they are the one sending the virus into Wuhan, instead of letting other countries investigate the lab in order to find out if the virus leaked from there.”

The retweet prompted massive backlash from Chinese fans of 2gether: the series, which led to this apology from Vachiravit, who also retweeted the controversial post.

As Thai and Chinese Twitter users went back and forth, the tweets were filled with racism and xenophobia.

Vachirawit’s apology did not calm anyone down. Thai users tweeted criticisms of China and the Chinese and also posted the view that Taiwan is separate from China.

In response, Chinese users tweeted criticisms of Thailand and the Thais, posted about China’s aid efforts to help Thailand during COVID-19 and reiterated their position as a cohesive Republic of China.

Twitter users from Taiwan and Hong Kong then began posting in support of Thai users, reiterating their stance on independence.

As well, due to the popularity of 2gether in Southeast Asia, others have joined in.

For example, users in the Philippines supported Thai users and also pushed their own agenda against China on the decades-long conflict over sovereignty in the South China Sea.

There are many interesting angles in this discussion including the Trumpian Chinese COVID-19 responsibility assignment, Chinese claims of US COVID-19 inception and the alignment of Twitter users from Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries that are overwhelmingly against China.

Whatever your take, now you know what’s going on.
