RSS affiliate asks govt to dump Huawei from 5G trials, says China trying to profit amid crisis

RINT RSS affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has again urged the Modi government to “dump” Chinese telecom major Huawei and not allow them to participate in the 5G trails in India. This comes in the backdrop of reports of China asking coronavirus-hit nations, such as France, to accept Huawei if they want supplies of medical equipment. Several countries, such as America, Australia, have blocked products from Huawei because they suspect threats to their national security. “China’s irresponsible behaviour on coronavirus, supplying faulty (Covid-19) test kits to several countries and now blackmailing them to allow Huawei in exchange for supplying test kits have exposed China’s game plan. This is high time for the Modi government to take a re-look at their decision to allow Huawei under this changed circumstances,” SJM national co-convener Ashwini Mahajan told ThePrint. In a tweet posted on 5 April, Mahajan tagged Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and requested him to take a look at the government’s “earlier decision” of allowing Huawei under the present circumstances. ‘India still has time to reject Huawei’ The SJM leader said India still has time to reject Huawei before China jeopardises India’s national security. “First, they risked the world by concealing data about coronavirus and then they risked the health of millions by supplying faulty test kits. And now, they are putting conditions that they will supply PPE (personal protection equipment), test kits only when Huawei is allowed in 5G trials. There is still time for the government of India to dump Huawei before they jeopardise (India’s) national security by stealing security data,” he said. Mahajan shared a report on Twitter Monday and wrote: “British PM is said to have decided to pull out of the 5G contract with Huawei. British PM came to the decision after he was furious about a recent ship “In India, we have been advocating from day one that there is suspicion that Chinese companies are indulging in eliciting sensitive data from devices and equipment they export. When America and Australia can ban Huawei, then why are we welcoming them?” he told ThePrint. This is not the first time the SJM has called for a ban on Huawei. In January this year, Mahajan had told ThePrint the Modi government shouldn’t trust Huawei as China has “jeopardised world health” with coronavirus, which is a result of its bio-warfare experiment. In December last year, the SJM, in a letter to minister Prasad, had questioned the government’s urgency and the participation of Huawei in the 5G trials. The trials were supposed to begin in the first quarter of 2020. China’s ‘corona diplomacy’ Mahajan cited a report, stating China has asked Italy to buy back the PPE, which the latter had donated to China to help in its fight against the pandemic. “… China is trying to make profit amid this humanitarian crisis. China is giving the impression that it is helping other nations by supplying masks and kits but that is actually not the case. China is polishing its tainted image through ‘corona diplomacy’. China is arm-twisting other countries…” he added. Faulty Chinese medical equipment Speaking to ThePrint last week, Mahajan had urged the Modi government not to import from China any PPE such as masks, eye gear, and testing kits and ventilators as their products are not trustworthy. Concerns have been raised over the quality of Chinese medical equipment after several countries decided to return masks and testing kits imported from China. Spain announced that it would return more than 600,000,000 rapid testing kits it had purchased from a Chinese company after testing of an imported batch showed they only had a 30 per cent detection rate. Turkey also reportedly raised similar concerns about the quality of Chinese testing kits. The Netherlands authorities have also ordered hospitals to send back around 600,000 masks that had been imported from China after they failed to meet the quality standards. Even 80 per cent of the testing kits sent to Czech Republic by China proved to be faulty. ment of test kits bound for the UK were found contaminated with coronavirus.”

Russia ready to start testing coronavirus vaccines on humans in June

  • Moscow, Apr 7 (AFP) The head of a top Russian research centre told President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday that his lab was ready to start human trials of experimental coronavirus vaccines in June.

Rinat Maksyutov, head of the Vektor State Virology and Biotechnology Centre, said his facility proposed first-phase clinical trials of three vaccines from June 29, on 180 volunteers.

Maksyutov was speaking during a video-link meeting between Putin and the heads of top research centres.

"Groups of volunteers have already been formed," he told Putin, adding that a lot of people wanted to take part in the trials.

"We have already received more than 300 applications."

Maksyutov said scientists at the top-secret lab complex located in Koltsovo outside the Siberian city of Novosibirsk had developed several prototype vaccines.

Tests were currently underway on mice, rabbits and other animals to determine the most promising by April 30, he said.

Vektor planned pre-clinical studies by June 22 before launching the testing in humans, Maksyutov added.

But the first human trials could begin in May "if the health ministry allows it".

Vektor has vaccine platform technologies that have already been tested in humans for other infections and could be used for the coronavirus, he added.

The Vektor laboratory complex conducted secret biological weapons research in the Soviet era and stockpiles viruses ranging from Ebola to smallpox.

Russia on Tuesday reported 7,497 coronavirus cases and 58 fatalities but the real number of infections is believed to be much higher. (AFP)

They need to come up with vaccine fast... this lockdown is getting on to nerves now..

As usual, claims being made by govt and situation on ground is different as chalk and cheese but thats understood and been the case since ages. A corrupt system can do that much only...

Police can control only law abiding citizens and those with connections are getting the passes easily..muzzies are roaming and spreading like they own the govt... to be honest.. pathetic is the only word...

Any relief govt announced is for banks and big names only. Local shop wallah continue to suffer big time ... so imo that we have a end to this whole lickdown asap....

So imp that we all go back to work and normal life asap..
Indeed the local and small businesses are getting hammered in this. But vaccine isn't coming fast. It will take months. And this lockdown isn't dependent on a vaccine.

Idiotic indian government need to boost indigenous medical equipments on their own after the crisis is over.

DST approves funding for developing a gel for nasal passage as prevention for COVID 19

Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), is supporting a technology by the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (DBB), IIT Bombay for capturing and inactivation of novel corona virus, the causative agent of COVID-19.

The funding will help the team from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Bombay develop a gel that can be applied to nasal passage, which is a major entry point of the corona virus. This solution is not only expected to protect the safety of health workers, but can also lead to reduction in community transmission of COVID-19, thereby helping disease management.

Given the contagious nature of COVID-19, health providers including doctors and nurses are at maximum risk while taking care of COVID-19 patients, particularly asymptomatic ones who cannot be detected and pose a greater risk in spreading the disease.

The team is planning a 2-pronged approach to limit transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the causative agent of COVID-19. Primarily, since viruses replicate within host cells of the lungs, the first component of the strategy will be to inhibit binding of viruses to host cells. While this is expected to reduce host cell infection, viruses will still remain active, therefore, raising the need to inactivate them.

Secondly, biological molecules would be incorporated, which would inactivate the trapped viruses in a manner similar to that of detergents. Upon completion, this approach will lead to development of gels that can be locally applied in the nasal cavity.

Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, DST said, "Our health care workers and others working in the front-line of fight against the virus deserve a fool-proof, 200% protection. The nasal gel being developed in conjunction with other protective measures, will provide a strong extra layer of defense",

Prof. Kiran Kondabagil, Prof. Rinti Banerjee, Prof. Ashutosh Kumar and Prof. Shamik Sen from the Dept. of Biosciences & Bioengineering at IIT Bombay will be part of this project. The team has expertise in the areas encompassing virology, structural biology, biophysics, biomaterials, and drug delivery and it is expected that the technology would be ready in about 9 months.

West Bengal is fucked, and will fuck the rest of the nation too if Mamta Begum is not controlled. It is rumoured that massive fudging of data, under-testing is happening. Even possible COVID19 patients are remoured to be not tested 2nd time if 1st test gives possible false negative. No manhunt is happening for Markazh attendees. Unless Modi comes down hard, hum to dubenge sanam, tumhe bhi le dubenge sanam.

Do you think it is only us that will be screwed? Kolkata is getway to NE. Huge no. of people regularly travel to and from Kolkata. If mamata's fudging of numbers makes Kolkata a hotspot, whole country will be affected.

Whether the states does anything or not, it doesn't matter. If Modiji try to extend the lockdown in whole India rather than the few states its going to backfire on him anyway.

People are getting frustrated and the opp party state Govt's. are enjoying it. Because at the time of any fallout they are going to blame Modi for lockdown (and for extension if happens).

Each state is on its own. If things go down that path than they will simple go and seal their borders with feviquick...

If she is really fudging than today or tomorrow or after 15 days it will come on top... and she will be exposed...People willl tolerate till they do not get aected... when it comes to personnel safety...no one will tolerate her...

Coronavirus outbreak has reached community transmission stage in Mumbai, says BMC

MUMBAI: The community spreading of coronavirus has apparently started in Mumbai and it's adjoining localities as the fresh positive cases emerging from there are neither immediate contacts of patients nor have any travel history.

Mumbai has 525 coronavirus positive cases while 34 deaths reported. In its report, BMC said out of 34 people who died of COVID-19, 11 had no pre-history of aliments.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the coronavirus positive cases reported in large number from slum pockets and highly dense areas of Mumbai. The G/South ward of the BMC has got 78 cases - the largest in the city. In in this ward, most of the patient are reported from fishermen colony of Worli, Prabhadevi and Lower Parel.

The D ward which has Byculla in its limits, has got the second highest number of cases. Localities such as Dharavi, Kurla, Nehru Nagar, Bandra and Andheri too have significant number of positive cases.

"We are more worried and concerned about the health workers and doctors who have been tested coronavirus positive. In Mumbai, more than 50 people from medical fraternity are detected as virus positive. The community spreading has therefore been started as we see a surge in number of cases from various part of the city. They have neither international travel history nor immediate contact. We are declaring these areas as contaminated cluster and subsequently sealing them," sais senior BMC officer.

However, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the the local administration was quick to deal with the crisis. Due to BMC's pro-active measures, Mumbai has less number of cases compared to other metropolitian cities around the world.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope visited Dharavi and and other slum areas to check and review the situation. "I have asked to increase the number of ventilators and testing. It will help detect more cases and subsequently take quick measures to prevent outbreak of coronavirus. The situation is under control," Tope said.
