Italians do eat a lot of veg food im guessing because you have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options in their restaurants when you go abroad. But their general cuisine also has quite a bit of barbecue, though not as much as Spanish and Portuguese food who are also Mediterranean.

Yes mostly Meat (Beef, Pork etc). In fact in western world main source of their protein comes from meat, unlike us who mostly eat leguminous plants (pulses, chick peas, desi chana, etc).
