Pls try and move in with someone nearby who will can accomodate you, even as a PG, till this thing blows over. This is your best and safest option.

If above is not possible, then buy/borrow induction cooker/gas-cum-stove combo unit and stock up on maggi/nakka noodles, essential veggies and oats. Talk to your parents over phone and learn basic cooking. Seek help from your neighbours for basic cooking utensils/tools. We indians are ever ready to help those in need, unlike in west who all do only lip service.

not sure of church but people in US do not hoard groceries.. concept of home kitchen is limited to baking a pizza with majority relying on restraunts and eating out.....They do buy in lots due to walmart / costco and sams etc but thats majorly your toiletries etc ..food is still a dailt thing..

The spread of Coronavirus among the masses in India was a foregone conclusion at least from the model which a senior US doctor of Indian descent and others had used to forecast its spread. He had predicted millions in affected people and deaths in India. May God, a cat catches his tongue. Their prognosis was so upsetting for Indian citizens that a big percentage of people resigned to the coming fate. The doctor was basing his forecast on a model, using the spread of the 1918 Flu epidemic. He assumed that health care was next to nothing in India. They lacked testing kits and were most likely short on ventilators and other other survival kits in the hospitals, hence people will die.

Modi, the Indian PM set out right from day one, when the news of this health disaster broke, to prove them wrong. He took steps like - limit incoming people in India afflicted with the disease. Since it is an overseas disease, airports became the focus of action. He ordered - testing and separating afflicted people from the rest. Additional steps taken included closing the airports for international flights for a week, track every individual arrived, afflicted or not, isolate passengers for 14 days in local hospital special wards. Anybody who escaped airport detection was tracked and brought back for isolation. A record of how many people the person met when he was away was kept handy. If the person developed symptoms, all the people he met or shook hands were tested or ordered into isolation. One notorious case of a singer who walked away from the airport undetected, later tested positive and still later all the people she met were tested for the virus. Right now the roads and streets are empty. Violators are on the hook for a jail term or a fine. This has scared the violators. In a massive country like India policing is harder, but the danger of disease is making everybody listen.

I live in Canada, I was here on a holiday trip but was surprised by the good arrangements in place here. I am returning soon and would carry good memories of these arrangements.

Give An indian wheat and Potato he will whip up some aloo ke parathe.
Give an indian some rice and Dal he will whip up some Khichadi or Pulao.
Give indian some chana potato and spice he wil make chana ka sabji

Why people are suddenly so high on lockdown... Indian household has habit to ration for a month alwyas.. we indian are having a habit to always but ration for at least a month, like rice, daal, oil, sugar.. at any point of time people have at least fifteen days of resources at home.. only vegetable and milk are bought evry day or alternate day....

Considering current unique situation we all can manage with rice and daal only for a month.. it will help us to loose some weight...

The problem of panic buying is US and Europe culture because they always buy ready to eat from stores and mainly whatever they can store in fridge... Mostly item which can last 2 or three days... I have not seen any western house who store wheat in huge quantity...

The moment the fridges become common thing.. we started loosing this habit..

World needs to learn from India on how to ration for a month

Exactly, my family ( 4 adults and a kid ) routinely stocks food.

50 kg Wheat ( we make flour at home)
50 kg Rice.
15 kg tur dal.
5 kg channa dal.
10 kg sugar.
15 litres of Oil.
5 kg onions
2 1/2 kg potato.
3 kg red chilli powder.
5 kg sea salt.
10 kg jaggery.

I might have skipped some items but this is the quantity we buy and this is the way it has been since my grandmother ( maybe before her) everything is stored ( we even have a term for it "Sathavnitla") except perishable items, all my close relatives do it.

Have not bought anything in loose or small quantity in my life. Whatever is consumed gets refilled in the same quantity as above.

Maybe the person who started this way had went through times like these or had anticipated it.
