If you look at the history of other major epidemics in human history like the bubonic plague or the spanish flu, these diseases eventually died off after doing their dance of death. In the so called Spanish Flu(which likely originated from China), 1.7 crore people died in India itself. It was caused by a mutation of the influenza virus. We still don't have vaccines for them and diseases like Bubonic plagues do break out in some parts of the world but they are contained locally due to better identification.
It is not necessary that we will have any vaccines for Wuhan-Coronavirus nor is it necessary that we will develop immunity. Look at Ebola, HIV, SARS, MERS as some examples...after knowing them for decades we still don't have any ingrained protection against them.
Lockdown is the single most effective technique to control virus spread. It has worked in the past and it will work in the future. The alternative as suggested by some politicians by the noble name of herd immunity is nothing but just another method of genocide.
Lockdown works by cutting off the exponential growth which gives you enough time to identify and isolate all known cases. Even if some cases escape the identification, the following outbreak would most likely be local. After all this finishes, we will continue to see outbreaks of Wuhan-Coronavirus in small spurts all over the world but it will be contained locally.
... then we can at least hope that it won't reach the tipping point where hospital beds are overrun by patients and people are dying left and right....
