The goal is to make the people immune to the virus, in the end everyone in the world will get infected by it.

Yes it will go on and on like one of those TV serials till a vaccine against this is discovered and entire populations innoculated, which as per best estimates is atleast 18 to 24 months away.

The virus doesn't stay in the body for infinity even in people who are not showing any symptoms. Eventually, your immune system kills it. Your White Blood Cells don't like unwarranted visitors. Either you get sick when your WBC attacks them or it eventually kills them slowly without getting sick.

A period of 30 days is enough to kill off the virus in everyone or to identity/isolate them. Lockdown works. That is how all major infectious diseases in the history of human society has been dealt with.

The virus will remain in the ecosystem. It's not like if it doesn't get the human host then it will die off. Viruses becomes inactive outside their hosts. The incubation period of corona virus might be 1-12 days but it will linger in our environment. Hence as rightly said in the above post by Akshay, the goal is to develop immunity. Evading the virus is virtually impossible and in order to develop this herd immunity we will have to undergo these tough times.
