UK is collapsing
..........
Virus death doubles in 1 day
.........................

.
Of all the countries, UK has the most sophisticated response. Risky but sophisticated and completely opposite of what most others are doing. They have decided that they won’t take hard measures to control the spread but allow the infection to take its course, especially among the least at risk of death, i.e. young, healthy adults. They are only aiming to protect through distancing , the high risk population. The idea is to have a large number of infected and recovered adults who will then be immune and therefore the spreading will reduce...herd immunity. The belief is that it’s impossible to control this outbreak no matter what measures are taken, so best to let it play out and attempt to control the fallout. Very refined and gutsy response but as with such, carries an unknown risk. Boris Johnson has been upfront about this, saying that a lot of families are going to lose loved ones before this is over. Whatever you may think, they aren’t shying away from being blunt.

excellent explanation Indrajit, if you do not mind, can I send this explanation to some of my friends, I never realised the implications of the herd immunity concept. Thanks for explaining it in a lucid manner.

America Is Acting Like a Failed State

But in the United States, the pandemic has devolved into a kind of grotesque caricature of American federalism. The private sector has taken on quasi-state functions at a time when the executive branch of government—drained of scientific expertise, starved of moral vision—has taken on the qualities of a failed state. In a country where many individuals, companies, institutions, and local governments are making hard decisions for the good of the nation, the most important actor of them all—the Trump administration—has been a shambolic bonanza of incompetence.

Sure, feel free. Nothing remarkable though, much of it is already discussed on social media by experts.

But most news channels are quoting we touched 98 or 99 just 2 hours ago . Maximum new cases coming from MH. Can we stop using COIVD and start calling the shit what it is Wu han Virus
More critical for us to know is the progress of the virus rather than the number itself.
The number can be 10000, but if by tomorrow its not going to 12500 (i.e., multiply itself by 1.25ish) and only increasing it by say 400-500 then we are handling it well.
As long as each channel reports consistently with their resources, it would give us an decent view.

@asianobserve how are things in Philippines?

Sent from my Redmi 8A Dual using Tapatalk

Everybody is on edge. Manila is on lockdown. The whole country is on medical emergency. Local governments are hyper vigilant. Gatherings of 250 are prohibited, international flights are cut-off except cebu, and soon domestic flights will stop (still to me implemented). There is panic buying.

In my place, the only region without recorded COVID-10 infection, the local government has already deputized a hotel as quaratine zone although there is still no patient. But I think the more pressing is testing kits.

I've never experience this level of national anxiety. I mean we've had the 1986 revolution, coups, Islamic terrorosm, but nothing as serious as this one.

This is of interest since it suggests that mortality rate may not necessarily be as high as feared. The Koreans are doing the most testing and their mortality rate is the lowest. The reason for higher mortality might be the mismatch between those tested versus actual numbers infected.

Mortality Rate is dependent on testing rate. US and India are both lagging in testing. But if testing can be done wider then the infection rate I think will be much higher depressing the moryality rate.

That's also the anxiety hete in Philippines. We know the virus has reached a wider section of the population but could not confirm it.
