  • Adenovirus vector vaccine
Other ingredients
  • disodium edetate dihydrate (EDTA)
  • ethanol
  • L-histidine
  • L-histidine hydrochloride monohydrate
  • magnesium chloride hexahydrate
  • polysorbate 80
  • sodium chloride
  • sucrose
  • water for injection
And only thing one can do by checking the ingredients is to check whether or not one is allergic to any of the above mentioned ingredients.
If it were possible to theoretically predict the effect of these ingredients individually or in combinations as in the vaccine, on a preson's body, one would have been so relieved.
But it's not so. Therefore the rigorous methodology for trial.
Even then one needs to wait at the vaccination center for 15 to 30 minutes to eradicate the chance of anaphylaxis shock/attack and a dedicated portal to report adverse effect.

It's a fools proposition to question a parent's choice who had volunteered his/her child for testing and an unfortunate effect happened.

The society will always be indebted to these volunteers who came forward for a noble cause.

Selflessness is the pillar of growth of the society while selfishness will sink a society.

All current covid vaxs are inherently risky since none have gone through the full multiple year test-certification cycle. But since batshit was such a clusterfck there was no option but to take whatever was available. The roll out was also sensible with the frontline and most vulnerable being given first.

Remember the whole planet was and still is running headless.

So it comes down to how many ppl died due to side-effects versus how many lives were saved due to ‘forced’ vaccination drives.

It is not a direct comparison, but when air raid signal is sounded it is prudent to obey govt diktat and rush to the nearest shelter, instead of blocking others path and demanding toilet facilities inside.

So listen to advice given by government health department and follow the instructions to the T.

If the vaccine is good enough for all sitting Presidents and PMs (only exception is crazy Bolsonaro), all those successful, important and rich people, young and old, then it's good enough for me...

They are tested on mice, pigs and monkeys before humans; we know to a large degree how it will pan out for humans before the first human receives a dose

Policy on booster shots likely to be presented in next two weeks, govt plans to immunise 44 crore children: India’s COVID-19 task force chairman

The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation(NTAGI) of India was working on a policy for COVID booster shots, and the same would be released in December, said Dr N K Arora

Wut? Booster has to be rna/dna based?

"Further, about 90 percent of doses in India are Covishield, and this has limited use as a booster. For that we will need either RNA, DNA or protein vaccines. For the moment, just make sure more and more people get the two doses," he said.

In the UK, they are offering AZ booster doses to those with contraindications to the mRNA jab so AZ can still be used as the booster. I don't see the rationale for excluding AZ in this way as the study which allegedly demonstrated the super duper efficacy of the Pfizer booster (increasing protection from 60% to 95%) also had an AZ booster arm which showed a much more impressive increase in protection (from the 50%s to 94%). Interestingly there was also a mixed dose arm which appeared to show that the best booster effect out of all groups was for those originally vaccinated with AZ subsequently receiving a Pfizer booster.

My view is that the booster does diddly squat (I have become very sceptical of Pfizer's claims more generally) but if the Indian government feels compelled to roll out boosters due to FOMO, there is no reason why Covishield cannot be used for this purpose (or maybe Covaxin).

I know which one me and my dear ones would go with if boosters become inevitable.

Chinese are the prime inventor of Coronavirus whether they admit it or not. They were the one experiment with Bats and those viruses in the bat caves. These have all been verified in last two years. Surprisingly Dr. Fauci of US was funding some aid to Wuhan institute.

Surprisingly President Biden has bowed down to Chinese demand not to pursue covert and otherwise any investigation. Also they would refuse permission to any investigators to come to Wuhan. That means they have something to hide.

Imagine if the same was happening in Russia, President Biden would have been up in arms blaming all evil on Russia. But Nay!, Biden wishes to leave Chinese blameless.

Now a new COVID-19 virus in the form of Omicron has emerged. The world has gone into tizzy with its mutation. Other mutations will emerge as the time passes. The world will be on the edge for many years. Already 700,000 Americans are dead. That is lot more than all the Americans dead in wars in last two hundred years. Still Biden is friendly relations with China. Thanks to Clinton-Bush-Obama; the Chinese have an ironclad stranglehold on West’s consumer goods market. It was them combined that over 20 years, Chinese grabbed $2 trillion of American money (FDI) and took away all the manufacturing industry to China. Now if the supply chain is disrupted because of the Virus then these three presidents have to be blamed.

All dependency on China have to be curtailed. It will take another 20 years to do that, but now is the time to begin. Ignore the Wall Street if they holler. Their aim is short term profit.

God send this virus back to China. Let them have 5 million dead. If their industry comes to a grinding halt then let it be. They need a lesson not conduct bad experiments.

‘Bruce Lee assault’ — ICMR official explains why Covaxin may have edge against Omicron

Dr Samiran Panda says Covaxin, being a whole virion vaccine, could work better, while there are chances of Omicron escaping targeted vaccines such as those based on the mRNA platform.

Little is known about the behaviour of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but it is possible that as a whole virion (a complete virus particle) vaccine, Covaxin may have a better chance of being effective against it than the other, more targeted ones, a senior ICMR official has said.

Omicron, the latest variant of the virus first detected in South Africa, is believed to be its most mutated form ever.

A lot of what we are saying about vaccines and the new variant right now is conjecture. We are assuming a lot about the structure function relationship of the virus and the vaccine. But it is a plausible conjecture to say that the virus may have less chances of escaping the immunity given by Covaxin than for other more targeted vaccines where the focus is principally on the spike protein,” Dr Samiran Panda, head of epidemiology and infectious diseases, ICMR, told ThePrint.

The mRNA vaccines, such as those of Pfizer and Moderna, are designed to produce a portion of the spike protein inside the cell by transcribing it from the codes contained in the piece of mRNA. Thus the body learns to identify the virus using that part of it. However, Omicron has about 50 mutations, many of them on the spike protein and its receptor binding domain (RBD).

“The RBD had two mutations in the Delta variant and here there are 10. If the structure of the domain changes then how well the lock and key arrangement works with other vaccines is a question. In the case of Covaxin it is a little like a Bruce Lee assault, when three different and potentially fatal sites are targeted at the same time,” Panda said.

However, he conceded that mRNA vaccines have the advantage that they can be tweaked very quickly to tailor them to variants. The AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in India as Covishield by the Serum Institute of India also uses genetic instructions for building the virus’s spike protein to familiarise the body with the SARS-CoV-2 antigen.

‘Seems to be more transmissible’
The World Health Organization maintains that it is not yet clear whether Omicron is more transmissible. However, Panda said that going by the rapid increase in case numbers in South Africa it does seem that it is more transmissible.

“You have to understand that all our vaccines are disease modifying and not disease preventing. I have been talking to my colleagues in South Africa and what we have come to know is that even in unvaccinated people infected with Omicron, the disease is mild. However, going by how fast cases have increased in South Africa, it does look like we are dealing with a more infectious variant,” he said.

Another senior government official, also a member of the National Expert Group on Vaccines Against Covid-19 (NEGVAC), told ThePrint that “it is possible” that Covaxin, being a whole virion vaccine, would work better against this latest variant. “Do wait for full characterisation of Omicron. We need to be sure in the laboratory as well,” he said.

Covaxin was approved with variants in mind
In January this year, when Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin was first approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), efficacy data for it was not available. However, one of the considerations that had influenced the decision was the hope that as a whole virion vaccine, it would work better against emerging variants.

“We know that the virus has undergone mutations, including in the spike protein. Pfizer has said that they will need six weeks to modify the vaccine. But because Covaxin is basically the whole virus killed, it is more likely to act against the mutant strain too. Simply put, if there are say 1,000 points in a vaccine, of which two have mutated, this (vaccine) is still going to have 998 points to generate a response, unlike others such as mRNA vaccines, which target specific areas and may not work as well when those areas mutate,” Dr Balram Bhargava, Director General, ICMR, had said then.

+1. For my family, I am highly in favor of getting Covaxin if boosters are needed. Heck, even for my Kid, I would prefer COVAXIN only.
Covaxin for children: recommendations being studied, says Minister

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) is examining recommendations and has sought additional information on administration of Covaxin for children.

Previously, the interim phase II/III clinical trial data of Covaxin on healthy volunteers aged 2 to 18 submitted by Bharat Biotech was deliberated at a meeting of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC).

The committee recommended the grant of market authorisation for the age group of 2 to 18 for Restricted Use in Emergency Situation, subject to various conditions, said Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharati Pawar in reply to a question in Parliament on use of Covaxin for children.

Study
The statement comes close on the heels of a study conducted between March 2020 and July 2021 and published recently in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine. It said that school-aged children with asthma and previous hospital admission and two or more courses of oral corticosteroids were at markedly increased risk of COVID-19 hospital admission and should be considered as priority for vaccination.

The national incident cohort study was done in children aged 5 to 17, who were included in the linked dataset of Early Pandemic Evaluation and Enhanced Surveillance of COVID-19

Through the study, researchers were trying to provide national evidence that children and those aged 5–17 years with poorly controlled asthma are at increased risk of COVID-19 hospital admission.

“These findings can be used for informed deliberations on prioritising COVID-19 vaccination for children. Consideration needs to be given to extending the offer of vaccination to younger children also,’’ noted the study.

The Global Asthma Report 2018 estimated that 6% of Indian children have asthma and this has to be seen in the context of rising pollution levels also. Some estimates suggest that the total number of asthma patients in India could be in the range of 1.5 to 2 crore.

Booster dose
Ms. Pawar said that while there were countries which were providing booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine, “in India, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) and National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) are deliberating and considering scientific evidences related to dose schedule of Covid-19 vaccines as well as the need and justification for booster dose’’.

No, they are offering "Moderna vaccine", even you have other vaccine.

They were earlier giving under 30 and other groups "BioNT-Pfizer- covid-19 vaccine"

You obviously know more about UK vaccine policy than the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) which, in its vaccine update earlier this week, recommended Astra Zeneca boosters to those who did not receive an mRNA vaccine in the 1st round due to contraindications.
