impractical in a real life scenario.
Is it? What is the drill about? To keep your calm under extreme duress, to be able to positively identify targets and non combatants while being subjected to incoming fire and distractions. Think you can do as good as the Spetsnaz operative did?

These guys are professionals, who have spent countless thousands of hours honing their skills and you come along and say, it's impractical. How many weapons have you fired?

Had you ever fired a weapon without ear protection on (as most trainees are made to, it's an initiation routine) you would have known how difficult it is to retain focus and visual on the target while your ears are ringing like the seven bells of hell.

calm down, the American guy in the video himself says he wouldn't recommend this in a real-life situation. russians make their military look larger than life to hide their own shortcomings economically and to maintain their regional power status. we have the same status but you dont see our SF constantly making videos on youtube to boost their egos.

Please don't compare our SF with Spetsnaz...Number of operations undertook wise ,we may be comparable with Spetsnaz. But the variety and scenarios where these ops are done,Spetsnaz scores .Also not to day about the equipment available. The training regime of Para or Marcos would be tough ,so is spetsnaz's ,but the updation in their training modules and techniques is in a more faster rate. Also for a better SF,equip equi and gears are a prerequisite. We don't even have dedicated air support for SF .

Sorry but Russians have a seriously bad record when it comes to deal with hostage situations. Getting most hostages killed along with terrorists is not a good thing

That's based on your extrapolation from that one highly publicized incident of the school seize.

The Russian SF operates differently from other Asian forces, which are engaged in quelling internal rebellions. The Russians are deployed in more varied roles. Russian SF advisers singularly turned the tide of the war in Syria against the US and saved Assad against a combined onslaught of the Western nations.

The US media was publicizing Syria when they though they were winning. Now that Russia has achieved an upper hand, there is rarely any mention of Syria in the news. The West is good at conjuring up perceptions. Give due credit to Russian SF. Don't just them based on one failed hostage rescue. If that was the criteria then even the US SF has crashed their helicopters during Mogadishu, Iran embassy raid and Osama raid. 3 times in a row in high visibility operations.

Russian Hostage rescue sop allows for a 80% loss of hostages to be deemed a successful operation.

So a good thing or a bad thing is a function of SOP and benchmarks

Seriously? 80% loss of hostages or 80% should be saved from a crisis?

Yes - saw an old documentary in the 90s on various spetz units in which one if their commanders in the interview mentioned it.

Russian HRT is more CT than HRT . They want to kill the terrorist as their primary mission objective and Hostage rescue is secondary.

This is very visible in alpha and Omon load out for HRT - APC / rocket launcher / chemical weapons / etc

I assume these are hard lessons learned from Afghanistan and chechnya

The entire GRU Spetsnaz unit isnt SF. They are SOF capable like Rangers. Now there are SF units inside Spetsnaz whose training is more specialised than the rest of their brethren.

Russian MoD usually treats Spetsnaz as an elite expeditionary force that can be quickly deployed.

The Russian special forces that turned the tide of War in Syria aren't Spetsnaz GRU. They are SSO, a Tier 1 Russian unit modelled on the US CAG aka 1st SFOD - Delta. SSO recruits operators from within the ranks of Spetsnaz GRU.

You can differentiate between Spetsnaz and SSO from their camouflage, weapons load out, helmet and other kitting. SSO is way more better equipped than the average Spets operator.

General Suheil Hassan, Commander of the Tiger forces of Syrian Arab Army is protected by Spetsnaz operatives.
